Inspiration

On occasions would I visit open guilds. In doing so, I seek out certain rooms with bookcases because they remind me of how my search for information use to be with role playing games. Honestly, I would be nostalgic while in the same vein wanting to know more about the guild I am visiting. However, I do find myself bored when taking trips only because, with empty guild halls, there is nothing else for me to interact with. And given that the differences between the guilds are in part contributions from the player base, I seek to know more of their standings, contributions, and the like. So here is a suggestion that I have had in mind for a while.

General Idea (now)

Give guilds the ability to generate their own library of works, written lore, or body of text that would be accessible in game. The room would be available for purchase after one of the fifth floor expansions is bought. If the room is open to visitation then everyone should be able to view the content. However, only guild members are allowed to publish the guild content.

Where Uncertainty Lies

  • Are the requirements too high to unlock the room?
  • Should a new Non-Playable Character (NPC) be introduced with it?
  • Can their be categories given to these publications?
  • Further Ideas

To give some restrictions to the submissions, I am suggesting the following barriers: Limit the permanent publications to at most ten for rules, regulations, origins, what sites to find more guild-related writing, and other standard information. For the publications that lie in the double digits, give them a lifespan no longer than a month. Restrict the allotted characters to the length of at least 1,000 characters. Employ a fee for every submission. Give the author the option to submit their knight's name or be anonymous. Give an additional option to leave the publication with the guild if they leave the guild or have the guild automatically deleted once they leave the guild. Lastly, in terms of displaying the submissions, assign a terminal to the permanent documents while leaving the remaining publications to be accessible through the bookcases purchased. Through this, there ought to be ten publications per book case.

    And et cetera...

Upon this update, release piles of discarded paper (as found in the Black Kat missions), stacks of books, a Yesman NPC with IT glasses, and new bookcases, either for the event or for purchase. As much as I would like an ancient bookcase, they are limited in supply and more expensive than my wallet can ever manage. Additionally, if there is an NPC involved in this, it might work out for them to be directories as well, telling knights where or from what other NPC or mission they can find specs of information from. Yet I am still not settled on an NPC.

    Hmm, wouldn't hurt much

However, I think the guild library should be accessible via the command console and not something exclusive for the richer guilds that can afford a fifth floor. Also, GMs and Officers should be able to remove entries as they so choose. The entries being created would have options similar to subforums that categorize the entries; GM/Officers should get more possible categories such as: Rules, Background etc. Lower ranked members would get less options. There should also be options to decide who can see the entry.

    +1 Sure, FOR SCIENCE!

Piece of furniture, would be more logical. We already have interactable Mist Tanks, Chairs and Beds. Having it purchasable (one book per bookcase?) after the 3rd or so floor has been unlocked gives it a good enough paywall that the text is worth storing on the server.

    Swag IS a virtue

    +1.
I love how in, the elder scrolls you can read any old book. I propose that we, uh um, ah, say have books that can be contributed to by a guild officer and up. 3 books to a shelf. Maybe have a Stranger in the centre of the room. He could sell pre-written books.
