Add offline mode.

So, an idea I had is, that SK could create an offline mode. When someone wishes to go into offline mode, he has to activate a special option when online: Enable offline file downloading.

Basically, what this does, even time you close SK, before the game closes, it downloads a copy of your profile's data on your PC.
When you want to open SK the next time, you get an option:

"Boot in offline mode?"

If you select to boot in offline mode, the game scans all the knights' that have been downloaded on your PC and asks you to select one, then it takes you to the knight selection screen, then you just start the game and can roam around and do any kind of mission/arcade you want.

IMPORTANT NOTE: While in offline mode, you CANNOT buy items, sell items, earn crowns, trade crowns for energy and that stuff that could be abused.

When you go back online THE GAME DOES NOT REUPLOAD FROM THE PC FILES TO THE SERVER. It just boots normally from the file already saved on the sever, so people can't hack the hell out of their knight and use it in servers, but they can do it when playing offline for personal enjoyment.

This would to an extension, allow people to share knights so one can play as someone else offline and test weapons.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT NOTE: Some people might think that will take any reason out of paying and playing online, well it won't. When playing offline, you can't complete missions (can repeat, not complete) or earn crowns/craft, so you won't really do anything other than play missions.

FINALY NOTE: The reason I am suggesting this, is because sometimes, you just want to play a mission, no rewards, no nothing, and you have bad internet. Or another case would be that you go somewhere without internet but still want to play SK.

Hopefully it will support Lan.

So what do you think?

In summary you want a mode in which you can play Spiral Knights REGARDLESS if your (just a scenario) in the car driving somewhere but in this mode you can only "play', correct?

Yes. You can just play. You can't complete missions, earn crowns, craft or any of that stuff.
The server downloads a copy of your profile evertime you close SK. You can alter it any way you want, but when you go online, the server will read the files it has stored, not the ones from your computer so no hax 4 u.

Don't really see the point in this if you can't complete missions, earn crowns or anything.
If this were to happen we should at least be able to earn crowns from runs and that's it. No being able to use the auction house or any other transaction that involves other players or the internet. This way if we have a bad connection or our internet is cut off suddenly we can continue to play and still earn cr which is pretty much the base of the game.

Not a bad idea

After all, we like to play games for fun hopefully, not for greed.

This would allow a significantly less laggy game if you're just wanting to play the game. You can hack all the items you want, and even try out a weapon you have enough resources for but you're not sure if it is really something you'd like. (Also, go crazy with Punch while not losing/gaining anything)

As long as the server doesn't download player data back, which is what you suggest, I'd love to see this!

"so people can't hack the hell out of their knight"

So you mean people are changing the stats of gear to make their knight overpowered? And you don't have a game boy/Iphone/any other mobile gaming device? Not that i don't support this idea, I do, it'd just be weird lugging around seperate mice (if trackpad does not work) assuming you own a laptop.

Crowns and energy hack is what he means. Maybe even Prismatic Bolted Vees.

Replies.

@Aurum-Boss

So you can play without internet when you are on vacation, or just want to play without any ping. It isn't all about money.

@Fangel

Yes, the player data is downloaded, but not uploaded, so you can have your knight, but not hack him in the servers with epic items.

@Sandwich-Potato

That isn't up to me, but I would like to see being able to create lan parties when offline to play with friends.

@Straight-Line

I think you are in a wrong thread.
Or forum.
Also, I can't understand what you are saying.
What does a Gameboy/mobile phone has to do with a separate mouse laptop user/trackpad, and people hacking items in their knight?
I am talking about people going offline, giving themselves 1.000.000.000.000 cr and ce and going back online and keeping them.

But I don't understand what you mean.
What do portable laptops, trackpads and Gameboy/mobile machines, have to do with preventing people from hacking items in their knight?

Osu! can be offline, so I don't see why this can't. Some players like Ellthan-Cosmolion may even prefer it. Devs must have wanted the game to be online only, but I don't see why this can't be done too.

I don't think many people would want to play offline if they can't get crowns or stuff like that.

The game isn't ALL about collecting money and wealth.

Also, you may be somewhere without internet and want to play SK, just for the game. Enjoy the levels, fight monsters, baddos and stuff.

Or just want to play without ping, or rewards for once.
