Hey guys

Since I started running Arcade again, my love for Spiral Knights has grown. For one, I have encountered monsters that aren't zombies lol. So as I started doing Arcade other than the usual FSC, I thought to myself, I wonder how things will change when OOO start implementing them anticipated changes to the Arcade, and wouldn't it be a good idea to read why other people do Arcade runs, then later compare how much things have changed based on reasons people give in the future.

So what are the main reasons you guys do Arcade runs? Is it for some change from missions, maybe it's for a certain material or maybe you're just feeling nostalgic and wish to re-live the old times when knights would sit around the elevator waiting for the level to change?

Let us know :)

agree

Danger rooms mainly. Also for variety --- to experience levels that aren't in missions. Also, if you want Radiants then your choices are FSC (too boring after so many times) or the Arcade.

A change of pace. Doing boss levels are rewarding, but not in fun. Mostly because you have done it so many times. I also run the arcade for basil, a better chance to get radiants, arenas and treasure vaults.

The Arcade was what prompted me to keep playing, and it remains as what keeps me playing. The rotating cogs that shift my path as I descend, presenting different levels after each expedition. And, of course, the chaos of a full random party.

This is why I started to fall out of it when missions were released and the Arcade abandoned. Really hoping the Redux will revive it to its former glory. One can hope...

I play Arcade to avoid FSC.

Lets look at my options here.

I can grind FSC all day long, lose my sanity, then become a guy who uses nothing but Skolver, Combuster, and Blitz needle and hate everyone who doesn't use that layout.

OR...

I can go into the arcade and rapidly switch between being a Guardian, Bomber, Gunslinger, Striker, Specialist, or Defender with each different level. Then I can alternate between other classes I may have such as my "Guard" layout. When I'm done with layout switching, I could just get silly and bring my Radiant Sun Shards with a CTR high UV to a Robo Rampage Arena and laugh as the above mentioned Skolver Zealots rage!

Hmm... can't tell which is more enjoyable.

Not to be genuinely sarcastic or anything...

*clears throat*

• It's more fun than running the same exact thing for every waking hour that on I'm Spiral Knights.

• It helps me find a wider variety of people instead of all my friends spam inviting me to FSC.

• I can continue to see how changes are always being made, and I can test my new gear in a wider variety of areas.

• Speaking of gear, I can actually heat my gear at every depth instead of being lazy and making suggestion threads about needlessly adding forges in boss areas.

• I have reason to believe I get better drops there. Significant drops so far today:
Spark of Life in Normal difficulty.
Got 21 Radiants after being invited to a Depth 28 Arena. It was the only depth I did for this run.
Spark of Life in a Lichenous Lair.
This one is self-explanatory. Got after a Danger Room on Depth 28.
All four of these drops happened today, and within a 2 hour time period.

• I don't have to deal with the constant FPS drops that boss runs have. Arcade is the only place I can use High Quality. The game just feels... better in High Quality.

Ideally what I hope the redux

Ideally what I hope the redux will deliver is the ability to jump into even numbered strata. However T2 is notably underwhelming here as 2 of the 4 gates are boss runs and more or less replicated through the mission system. Either that or the ability to travel sideways - pick a depth and stick to it. No more game breaking than FSC is except without the tedium (playing for play rather than playing to pay).

One thing I never understood was the 4+4 active/dormant gate setup and the 48 hour rollover. Why not 7 active, 1 dormant and 24h rollover? The gate construction system was cute but overambitious hence its retirement so we need all the choices we can get.
