Hello all, I've only been playing Spiral Knights for about 3 days. I'm a little confused on the correct way to get my 4* adn 5* equipment. I noticed at gear levels 5 and 10 you gain variants on your equipment and these sometimes carry forward when you upgrade them via alchemy. Should I be leveling each piece of equipment to 10 before upgrading to take advantage of these variants or am i wasting an incredible amount of time and energy?

Basically I'm new in these type of games, I never played anything like this nor any MMOs so I don't have a clue what I'm doing. That's why I would like to know some experienced players who can help me. It's hard to find proper video tutorials and wiki is just to complicated for me. I understand that you have a fixed amount of mist energy that can reach a max of 100 and if it depletes can be slowly acquired over time by waiting but does it have to be acquired online or can i turn the game off and come back say... tomorrow (about the time it takes to reach 100 i hear)

I am a new player and I have just bought a new gun and sword. Could someone please tell me how to do it?!

I understand that a shield's defenses are only active when the player's guard is up. But what about the status defenses? I've never been frozen or lit on fire when my shield is active, so why do I need freeze or fire resistance on my shield?
