Hi,

My hard drive recently crashed, so I'm forced to run my OS (OSx 10.9.2) from an external hard drive now.
Whenever I try to install a non-Steam version of SK it gives me the m.create_appdir_failed notice.

It happened on both Armorgames.com, where my main account is located, and the Spiral Knights site itself.
Is it a case of the game still trying to install itself on my old hard drive?

Greetings,

That's either the result of Spiral Knights not finding the expected directory the web installer wants to use or that the user it launches the installer under (you) does not have permission to create it's installation directory.

The web installer will try to create ~/Library/Application Support/spiral/, so if the Application Support directory doesn't exist you'll certainly get this error. If you want to try installing Spiral Knights in a custom directory please try the downloadable installer.

That said could you please provide a screenshot of the error? Ideally it should give you some proper words.

Hello Helios,

http://imgur.com/GllxaeI <--- screenshot. I took the liberty of making it a bit brighter so it's readable.

I've tried the downloadable installer, and that one launches just fine.
The only problem with that while it is in my applications folder, there is no 'spiral' folder at the standard location.
(~/Library/Application Support/spiral/).
It also doesn't allow me acces to my Armorgames account, as that site doesn't recognise it as being already installed.

I'm the sole user account on this computer with no restrictions to access anything.

I've found a way around the problem by figuring out my armorgames username etc, and importing it into the standalone client.
Thanks anyway!

Greetings,

That's good to hear! I was going to suggest creating a symbolic link in the place of the normal install and pointing it at your new install. However, you way certainly works too.
