Spiral knights is a great game that im sure most agree with. But there is always one thing that makes it all go bad which is lag. Its time that OOO starts to show regonition to it's players from around the world and start making more servers to improve the game's connection.
possible suggestions for new servers can include

- using the asian server which is now dead but still running for some odd reason
- working with valve to add more servers
- opening servers in countries that cost less to run the servers in, e.g china, indonesia and india

there are plenty more other ideas that OOO can use to make more servers. But im sure their unsure if its right to spend the money. SO lets get commenting people and show OOO that the SK comunity wants more servers for a better connection.

...New serves, yeah... I guess *flinging arms aimlessly in the air* Yeah... I guess... even thought OOO got brought by SEGA and has been milking it ever since...

Okay, jokes aside, this is really not what we need right now:
-Asian server (in taiwan to be exact I think... the translation is awful BTW) is dead(?), really, last time I still heard that the server is alive.

-Working with Valve? What about SEGA? And the only reason why TF2 SK promo helmet is there is due to the help of steam, nothing more.

-I don't think the server cost in China/Asia is going to be cheap thanks to all of the competing local MMOs with fan base ten times that of ours?

-Try to get SK going in middle east will probably run into the ethical issue with the core, who is pretty much a god in its own claim, some censorship might be needed.

I really don't think opening new servers will help SK ATM, we need some legitiment contents and longer missions to get a bigger player base going. The gunner update is a bit like sacrificing your self to the first flame in Dark Souls, only delaying the impending dark, I just hope that they can come up with something more... I hope...

Yes but if the game is expected to have a bigger fan base with what your suggesting then how can the servers keep up with even more players

I personally don't project SK getting its playerbase any larger unless they really work on the game and get a freaking advertising budget. I'd rather see them advertise the game for now rather than run more servers. I'd also rather see better servers before we get more of them (quality > quantity). Advertising for the game is nonexistent. The videos on this very site have never been updated and are incredibly outdated. Advertising is a cornerstone of a MMO's goal of obtaining more players. It also doesn't help that it has mediocre ratings on Steam.... but these ratings are outdated and should be redone (I personally think that would be futile though, because the game still has countless problems).

I've always wanted to see a BETTER server for EVERY SEAians. But...It is unlikely to happen if they close the Asia Server,3rings might do it..

yep another candidate for abandoned thread... welp lot of thread like this gone and being ignored for 3 year~
OOO can get lot of money and player if they want to follow step i share here..
get Asia server (china most recommended) > make new trailer > advertise sk in gaming website > wait for result

or do crazy strategy like maplestory game do..
improve old server, make it can stand well outside of reach (might cost alot.. but choose stable server or potato server?) > same like upper > fix all current bug and broken weapon > advertise using ppv (pay per view) or ppc (pay per click) > record advertisement for broadcast and webcast > etc (too much -,-) sure they can do that.. they have good investor, but we still have sega right? eh what sega do o_o

well.. thats my suggestion, hope they listen to us because most people who play sk are outside of western territory.
really sk is different game without lag, i already feel it when in alien server (asia server) but i prefer stay here even with forever red bar because.. eh you know what in asia server >,>

~400ms lag makes the game incredibly frustrating but it still remains fun...mostly

but frankly the greater majority of people can deal with a half second delay or less, it is irritating don't get me wrong, sometimes to the point of rage quitting, but it has never felt to me as though the servers are struggling or over capacity, they are just in a different country X many kilometers away, its what you expect really

i agree with Mushy-Bucket, advertising is really what SK needs more than anything. Promotions on steam are a pretty good starting point, even if most of the players drift off again to the next new item or the next sale or whatever in a couple of weeks, gamers are an incredibly fickle bunch no mistake. But new advertising material, hell even banner ads (though im sure most people by now have ad-blockers) on gaming sites like newgrounds or kongregate would probably be worth the investment, better still if you can get them on gaming news/review sites(gamespot, metacritic, ign). SK needs more players before new servers

advertising is useless if sk server still use potato server, because most people leave and not enjoyed game caused by red bar connection and some because of limited play (10 energy per elevator) in old days~

our game have high rating in most gaming website even when mist still exist.. but where everybody go?
make asia server or stabilize old server not only help people outside of western territory, it help make sk more lively because most newbie and people who play sk are from outside of western section.

just think of it if this be like this..
advertise only = not western : oh man this game suck, still get dmg even shield up.. ima leave.
western : did people still play this game? so lonely -_-' and no one join my party, meh...

better server > advertise = not western : gg dis game unique and nice place~ ima tell ma fiend in FB to play dis game

content only extend some players life span... (except compound in arcade)
but sk can have lot of content later if > have better server > get more player > sk become more lively > old player think this game promising when see lot of people in haven and kept doing their activity in sk or not leaving > more player spend money > OOO got enuf money to hire more stuff to work on coding > more content and more fast or big than usual.

think of it~ we have over 70% people from outside of western territory (even lot of them not survive because lag)
most of my friend who live outside of western are more money spender than friend who live is us
and dont think sk going to lose to other mmo game if we make server in china, because our game is unique and only few game have element like sk and we have high rating even when our mist still exist + only few mission can be play.
if sk can do this, sure they will bring us more content and event not just same old event every years~

IF it is true perhaps SK should consider moving their primary server to the region with the largest player base, there are other server clusters in the amazon cloud located outside of north america and europe

the data come from my experience and daily activities in sk for over 3 years~
like helping friend, newbie and wandering in haven. most of them are having same problem like not being able to use sprite skill and shielding after get hit by enemy (red bar connection must shield before enemy attack or shield bullet from afar in order to block it)

and they not really need to move their primary server to region with largest player base, what they only need is stabilize old server like what whimsicality say~ really... what tha heck i got red bar and delay in this game while other just fine with green bar connection, i already test upgrade 1mbps and 2mbps.. seem same~ only got like 0,08 - 0,15+ delay reduction. did sk server using terrible netcode? --a

last note : sk server become more bad everyday according to what i've experience in here (maybe just me), i still get 2 yellow bar in old days but now i got 1 red bar in right upper map screen with more better connection and pc~

im not sure you grasp how networks actually function - the biggest factor in regards to latency(delays) is physical distance and intermediate nodes (well that and medium but we can assume majority of network is fiber optic cable), as SK is hosted on one of the NA amazon cloud server clusters it has to route the data through x many thousand kilometers of cable, through x many interconnecting servers, through ISP servers and finally to you - which is fairly impressive considering its almost always achieved within fractions of a second. Although it is coded in java so perhaps that has something to do with the terrible latency

i cant speak for your connection but i know for a fact that as a western australian resident ALL international internet traffic routes through sydney, on the other side of the country which by itself generates a standard 50 - 80 ms delay (aus network infrastructure is terrible, its mostly still running on copper wires) for my connection thats about 1/5 of the delay (~350ms) when playing SK, always on red bar(most MMOs consider 250ms or higher poor and display red/low connection). And network speed doesnt appear to effect SK much so long as you have above 1mbps, i play on a 1.5mbps line while my friends (in the same city) play on a 13mbps connection with visually no difference on delay

As for stabilizing the server, you should google what the amazon cloud is, unless Sega changed it SK used to be hosted on it (hint; its a pretty impressive server cluster designed solely for cloud computing) can almost guarantee that the server is not the primary problem, and if it is OOO cant actually touch it anyway, there may be faults in the games coding/design but you would need to ask a NA player what the latency is like for them, if its not terrible then the latency must come from the network and the route it takes to reach you. it really sounds like your connection is a bit shoddy tbh

last note: again seems like your connection, i havent noticed any difference in the latency, been playing off and on since it came to steam 2.5-3 years ago across 3 different houses and 2 computers, with no noticeable change in delay, it will slowly die if not regularly maintained with server reboots every so often but dont they still happen every night?

all that said, if they player base is primarily not based in north america it would make sense to host SK on a different physical server in the region with the largest player base, but lets be honest that costs money, there would be downtime and the dev team is based in NA so they are going to cater primarily for NA players (i'd also be willing to bet that at least 50% of the player base is from a region with 100ms latency or less and would be very upset if OOO did anything that raised their lag)

@Bustware we always need new content (eagerly awaiting the gunner update), we are all just having a whinge on this thread about how our game lags and wishing that it didnt since it's such a wonderfully different MMO

for the note, maybe because my connection near 250ms before (under 250 got two yellow bar) so the difference is not really big or make people notice it. and nup~ they not do it everynight now for some reason.. forget what gm tell to me when i ingame support --a
btw my connection isnt creepy or shoddy as you think, im currently use best ISP in my place~ and my connection is stable in most country. but i dont want to get best package from my ISP and pay lot of money just for this game if i can just play other game fine without delay.

i just.. disappoint to this game~ not because my connection, but i though this game going to be big like it suppose to be.. sk really have unique element which cant be compared with other games, and i believe this server is really affect future of sk.
not only unique.. this game have high rating and most of my friend recommended it in old days~ even have lot of complainer (mist and lag) that complain post really prevent someone from joining this game --a because most people know this game from gaming website (some from mouth to mouth or friend invite) sure OOO need to advertise sk because this game is hidden (that just my opinion) but we need better server too for lot of reason which need to be considered as a big problem.

im not suprise no another red bar complainer~ most of them prefer just go with flow and not lot of them are forumer (some just not good at english)
but how can you be sure or willing to bet we have 50% people with under 100ms? if you just see from people who still alive in haven or play with you then you just look at them based on survivor list --a
