so you probably know by now that how the levels are built and the monster type are all represented by colors
so naturaly what i did was check out the wiki http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Gate
went to play and keeped going to the wiki too see what to use and stuff
eventually i found a level that was colored green(not the background the place where the monster family is) went to the wiki and sed nothing then i saw one thjat was red

don't think so

I don't think so. Maybe you could tell us where this was. A mission? An arcade gate? Which one?

i think so

check the snarbolax mission and the arcade

The color coding only functions for level icons that hold a variety of monster types available.

The green you saw was likely Jigsaw Valley and the red was likely Scarlet Fortress. These depths actually don't have procedural generation of the depth at all.

those certainly do

Those levels certainly have green icons.

so i pretty mush just use

so i pretty mush just use equipment with normal defense ? what about tier 3 where monsters do pure elemental pierse or shadow damage and no normal ?

no

Even in Tier 3, there is still a lot of normal damage flying around. For example, look at the Lord Vanaduke boss fight. The slag guards and Vanaduke's mace both do mainly normal damage. Also, you should prioritize status resistance and offensive bonuses over damage protection. For more detail, consider reading my armor guide.

Some of these "special" levels have the same icon, even though they present different threats. For example:

* Jigsaw Valleys are filled with gremlins and constructs. So you want normal+elemental armor, and you want elemental and shadow weapons.

* Aurora Isles: Stone Grove has the same green icon and is filled with slimes and beasts. So you want normal+piercing armor, and you want piercing and shadow weapons.

So look up the level name on the wiki, if you really want to know what monsters you'll encounter. Eventually you memorize it all.

Are you perhaps talking about the Gloaming Wildwoods, home of the Snarbolax?

obligatory

...what do you think is a good armor? for elemental shadow and pierce ?

Actually I don't think that damage protection should be your main criterion for choosing armor in the first place. You might want to read my detailed armor guide.
