"Blind" A sleep replacement.

TL;DR version :
Blind is a status that lowers the vision range of the person or thing conflicted with the status. This is to be a replacement to sleep as it really can't be implemented into the game with out being better then freeze or being too bad to really use.
=========================================================================
I know I know, they said they will bring sleep back but really, these are the three only ways sleep could be added back:
1. They keep it how it is, healing effect and super freeze. This is abuse able if an enemy apply it to a player and won't really help if a player is using it.
2. They remove the heal effect and make it into a super sleep. Everyone will just demand a sleep mist bomb and no one will use freeze again.
3. They remove the healing effect for players from sleep so now it is simply a stronger freeze to players. It still heals enemies but is now only a threat to players, not a tool.
So I'm suggesting we simply make a new status to both give any thing with a sleep status on it an actual use.
How would blind work? Well depending on the strength of the blind who ever is inflicted with it will have their vision radius reduced. Lets put this into a game scenario.
You have a blind gun and start to shoot a gun puppy, it takes 2 shots at you then gets blinded. It stops firing at you as you are not standing in its now lower vision radius. You shoot it again but from a different spot and then the puppy turns to were you were standing when it was shot and attacks in that direction. You keep moving and it keeps shooting the wrong spot.
You are fighting a gremlin thwacker with a blind sword, you cause the gremlin to become blinded and quickly walk out of the vision radius. The thwacker walks in the general direction you where at and tries to find you. Now you are behind him fully charged and take him out. He didn't see a thing coming.

You have a blind bomb and you are LD. You plant it and end up hitting a guardian. They get blinded. They now have a limited vision range and try to retreat as they can't see where you are coming from. You can now simply shoot them from out side of their vision range or go in for a unseen strike.

But lets say the guardian decides to try and kill you, he can see about 6 blocks out from him and runs to where he last saw you, he could see your leg and runs to where you are now. You can simply keep walking away while you shoot him and move as you do so. He can still reach you but you are now at the advantage due to this status.

Any thoughts?

blind causing enemies.

Something I felt should be listed as its own from the full post are the names/look of these blind causing monsters.
Gremlin Duster:
The gremlin duster has what could best be described as a steam punk vacuum on his back with a large nozzle in his hand. He will be wearing goggles like most gremlins and also have a respirator like thing over his mouth to keep him self from coughing all the time.
He is primarily a ranged attacker often firing dust clouds and junk from his vacuum. If a player is hit they can be blinded due to the dust getting in their eyes/lens.
In tire 1 he can only fire a dust ball and has a 1 second attack time.
In tire 2 he can now fire a bust ball while walking and fire a much larger faster one after doing a small charge attack.
In tire 3 his normal attack now can fire 2 stray bullets that go in a random direction. He can still do the special dust attack as well. His newest ability is to point his nozzle down and fire it, this will cause a grey and dusty looking mist radius to start forming around him. for every second that he gets to use this attack the radius expends by 3 blocks. After reaching 12 blocks the radius will no longer expanding any further but he will continue to sustain it. He will not stop using this attack until he is hit. Any player who does not have high blindness resistance will be blinded. The blind strength will become stronger with each second you are in it or the closer you are to the center. After he is hit the cloud will disappear after half the time it was sustained. Or just 5 seconds if that is too much to code.

Clutter Claws:
The Clutter Claw will be the name of the blindness kat. Same attacks as most kat but can just cause blindness. It will have a light grey look and making coughing sounds when it attacks. If it dashes it leaves a small dust trail. One of the eyes of a blindness kat could be closed from something being stuck in it's eye maybe?

Dark Skull:
These are the blindness variation of skellys. They look to be a dark grey and have small cloud effects coming from their eyes. Just skellys that cause blindness.
Clutter Cube:
The blindness slime!
It will appear mostly translucent but having a grey tint.Random things floating around inside it. Functions like a normal slime cube but instead of the ground spike attack it does a ripple and throws some of its junk as projectiles. Tire 2 only fires 1, tire 3 fires 4. They do not aim as much in tire 3 so they will be rather randomly shot.
Clusterlasks:
The blindness chromolask. These beasts will appear grey with white ascents. The horns are chipped. A small dust cloud emanates from this monsters. Same attacks as normal chroma just causes blindness. The goop piles should be grey and have a dust could effect.
I'll come up with the others latter, feel free to do it for lazy ol me.

It can still be called 'sleep'. When you're sleepy your vision does get affected untill you succumb and close your eyes completely :P

That way no one can complain about sleep not coming back.

I would prefer they call it blind, or "shaded" or some thing. Sleep will still make new players think that they will stop moving.

This status sounds interesting, but the problem with a status that effectively does nothing (it's just a graphical effect for players) is that, well, it effectively does nothing.

Let's say I'm playing Lockdown, and some guy on the opposing team is really fond of using blindness bombs. Instead of equipping anti-blindness armour, I simple walk over to the bomber and kill him because his bomb is doing nothing to me. How?

Simple: I'm not looking at my own screen. Instead, I'm looking at a seperate instance of SK I've got up and running with an alt character who is spectating myself in Lockdown.

Similarly, when running through a blind-themed dungeon, I could bring an alt, have them die, and use the ability to spectate living players to never worry about blindness at all.

Alts are an issue that I'm sure we can't fix completely. I guess that would be a big problem, maybe we could help discourage people to do this by having players abuse this get banned/character resets? Maybe add another effect to stronger blinds like control reversal? AA disable? shield disable? Actually, no to the last one. Shield disable should be on poison or stun, but that is for another thread. Armor reduction? Shield bar blinded, as in you can't see it? Health blinded, as in you can't see it? OOOh I know! removes the ability to know what status you are ailed with, it simply makes them all the blindess nstatus logo
What I mean by character resets is that if a player is convicted of alt abusing but is not a "Ban from game forever" level, but still seerus account of it will get the alt accounts banned permanently and the primary account/character will have all of the belongings that are not crowns put into the auction house under the "Repo" section. All items in the repo section start at 1 crowns for bid and are deleted if no one bids on them after 2 hours. All "repo" auctions are 2 hours, no "final bid" times. Once the 2 hours are up the final bidder wins it, end of story. All crowns are deleted. CE will be auto sold in the market for 5,000 crowns.

What about when spectating

If you are inflicted with blind
and a spectator is watching you
the spectator will have blind until the spectate someone else, or it wears off

The spectator could just watch someone else nearby. It's a bit more work, but I still insist that you can't have a status effect without a tangible effect. The whole banning thing is a lot of hassle for one lousy status, too.

Could it at least add a % chance for your attacks to outright miss?

That could work I guess,

That could work I guess, hell, that will give the DR a real use in LD too if blind becomes popular.

Solution to Zeddy's problem: spectating a blinded player means you see the same thin the do. If you're abusing Alts to that extent anyway, and you can handle the lag between input, server, and receiving it in the other client (about half a second for me), that's just a problem with the Alts in general.

@OP: I like this idea a bit better.

Ah, I remember the smoke bomb thread! good times.
Still, the whole status would be nicer then a single bomb Klipik. Just sayin.
I do agree the whole "They can't see in, and they won't see out while in too" should probably be how the mist bomb version of this works.
Over all the smoke bomb is coolio.

I just meant that variation of the status. The bomb could be one of the first weapons that uses it.

I can see it now! Sticks that explode!

It probably will be . I can see it now "The Cluster Caber". It will be a "explosives" sword that on the 2 (final) swing causes the "sword" to blow up. The 5 star will release a small blind mist ring, about as small as that for greavers. It should probably be normal with a piercing variation.

@ Royal-Slime

Completely blinding them is way too OP. Blind would be instant death in PvP and blind-lock would be worse than freeze-lock. I think restricting vision to two squares away does what its meant to without being overly broken.

I'd go for a screen blur or that thing that a blooper does in Mario Kart instead.

It could be screen blur and

It could be screen blur and have it be more blurry the farther away from you it is depending on how strong the blind is but then if it was lets say a "Shaded devilite" who makes the player lose the ability to see far distances with dark magic the idea of it just being a blur would be strange.
How about weak and minor have blur effect out side of their radius while any thing stronger would have a sort of grey black.

You could center the

You could center the blindness effect similar to how it is in Awesomenauts, where the player can't see anything else but themself and a small radius around them. As the effect wears off, the screen will fade back to normal.
