The Shroud of the Apocrea is a rather unique compared to other missions. Spiral knights is not known for it's fear factor, so this made my first experience with the mission a truly memorable one. Starting out scattered, alone, and not being able to see the minimap was a very good way to start off. I had no idea what to do at first, so I just stood still for a minute, but then a harvester got me. The Apocrean harvester may have originated from the idea of a hostile stranger, but either way, it embraces the creepy side to them. When grabbed by a harvester, you're nearly defenseless. Your shield won't do much good against those eyes. Not only that, trying to fight it is pointless. It has a lot of health, offers no drops, and people say it respawns, but actually, I think the Apocrean leader, or whatever you want to call the big cheese, sends in another Harvester to attack you.

OOO, in my opinion, you've truly done an amazing job with this. Thumbs up.

yep

I agree. But let me just point out that they've tried the "dark level populated by monsters you can't ever truly kill" idea before: graveyards with phantoms, Candlestick Keep with grimalkins. This one may be better than those, only until we get used to it. But, until I get used to it, I like it.

As far as events go, this is in the top two. (The other one is Winterfest, not sure which I prefer.) Here's some of what it's doing right:

  • Desirable rewards that are only slightly more powerful than equivalent counterparts, if at all. Kind of like Shadow Lair stuff. Strikes a balance between not being rubbish and not being the only shadow weapons that matter. (It's not perfect, could be much worse. Looking at you, Acheron and Kat Hat.)
  • Loads of new art assets! Enemies, soundtrack, level sets, lore.
  • While there is plenty of RNG, there's just so many chances of rewards produced in a short time that the rewards you come out with in the end are much more influenced by effort and skill than luck.
  • Enormous incentive to team up with actual human beings as they can help cover more gravestones quicker and everything can be made much easier through teamwork tactics.
  • Just about no incentive to alt-drag due to the everything involved being bound. A necessary evil.
  • Swords, guns and bombs all have their place in efficient tactics.
  • Holy carp on a sandwich that harvester is awesome-looking.
  • Cripes almighty that ambient sound.
  • You guys should seriously make a horror game.

If OOO made more levels with

If OOO made more levels with this... greatness, then Shroud of the Apocrea wouldn't be a special Halloween level. But that doesn't mean they can't make another amazing level! Anyone have ideas for a Thanksgiving level? (My birthday is in the same week as Thanksgiving)

I can think of no reason that

I can think of no reason that anyone would want to play several levels with many chances of tier 3 undead/fiend arenas. :P You can just run for the elevator on plateaus if you wanted.
