Instead of having a clutter of icons overlapping on your minimap, you can press B to more easily see where your teammates are spread out, enabling for more strategic plays on your part. Many times I've heard Lockdown players comment "I wonder where my team is, I guess I'll go to 2 then go to 3" only to figure out at the last second their team was already there, and that it would have been more strategically advantageous to go to 3 first. An easily accessible map would help prevent those minor occurrences.
And it's a nice little addition for spectators, too.
