Precursor Note

Part of the standard layout for Crafted items is the inclusion of the following note under the Alchemy Ingredient table:

"Note: When crafting using a bound item as a precursor, the upgraded item will also be bound"

I have observed this note added to items that have no precursor to make them, nor are themselves not a precursor to some other crafted item.

Should this note be removed from items that do not require a precursor or are not precursors themselves?

Frost Gun is an example...

It's hardwired into the recipe template and would require some modification to every single wiki page involving it which would honestly take a bit of work.

I don't believe it should be removed either way because it's just a note, nothing more. Even if you are upgrading, it's just a general note reminding/telling the player.

it's a holdover

It's a holdover from the aftermath of the notorious May 17(?), 2011 update that caused items to be bound on upgrade. Really, it could just be removed from the template altogether. No player expects items to unbind on upgrade anymore. But I don't feel strongly about it.

I think it should be left.
Either that or the note transferred to the Crafting page. It should be somewhere, it's the type of thing that could cause confusion like losing Rooms and Expansions when downsizing a Guild Hall.

already noted

It is already noted quite explicitly on the Crafting page:

"If the precursor item is bound, then the newly upgraded item will also be bound. Because an item must be equipped to be heated, and equipping an item binds it, this rule means that any newly made 4- and 5-star item is bound. The item cannot be traded to another player, unless an unbinding fee is paid at Vise. Consequently, 4- and 5-star items command extremely high prices, in comparison to 3-star items."

But that was not my question

Points all well stated ... but

My question was not if the note should exist at all, but rather I was questioning why it was on a page to which it did not apply (since the object was not a precursor nor required one to craft). I think you stated it was an issue with the Template for which I would say you need to create a new Template for items which are not relevant to the precursor subject ... and so have no need for the note.

Stating something that is incorrect is not justified by 'because it was in the template'. Fix what you can control ... imho.

right, but

What about objects such as Magic Hood? They have no precursor. Does that mean that the note should be removed? What if a player crafts a Magic Hood in the process of crafting an Elemental Hood? The note basically warns the player not to equip the Magic Hood, if he wants to sell the Elemental Hood. So is the note helpful or not?

The right policy is not clear to me. Even if it were clear to me, getting consensus among editors might take a while. Simple, clear policies are much easier to design, implement, and follow than subtle, complicated policies. So I advocate one of these two simple policies:

A. We leave the notice as it is. On items where it doesn't apply, players can ignore it. I doubt that this causes much confusion. It's never incorrect; it's just sometimes irrelevant.

B. We delete the notice from all items, by deleting the text from Template:Recipe/end. Actually I favor this option. All players who started after 2011 May 17 know that bound items stay bound. Players who have been playing since before 2011 May 17 (like me) know that bound items stay bound. The only players who might not know are those who started and quit playing before 2011 May 17, and have since returned to the game. I doubt that there are many.

@Bopp

I am in favor of option A.

As you just said, it's a helpful reminder to those who want to know on the future of the bound status (especially since a lot of players seem to be unaware of this mechanic) of their items.
When I first started playing, someone told me that 4 and 5 star items bind to you. I thought that this meant if you bought one off the Auction House, it would automatically bind to you.
