Hey guys while I was trying out my swords on those robots in the Training Hall, I noticed that my Cold Iron Carver was doing less damage than my Nightblade or Fireburst Brandish, even though Normal attack stat is way up there.

Ok so here are the swords I tried out.

1st and 2nd swings do the same amount of damage, while third is more.

2 Stars:

Brandish LVL 10
1st= 34
3rd= 40
charged= 55

Calibur LVL 10
1st= 32
3rd= 38
charged= 53

3 Stars:

Fireburst Brandish LVL 10 / Nightblade LVL 10
1st= 34
3rd= 39
charged= 61

4 Stars:

Cold Iron Carver LVL 10
1st= 31
3rd= 37
charged= 51

The Calibur and Brandish have the same stats but the Brandish does a little bit more damage than the Calibur. What boggles me is that the Fireburst Brandish and Nightblade do more damage than the Cold Iron Carver. Could it be that their attack is boosted by the elemental and shadow damage?

I got these numbers without any attack bonus in armor or trinkets or any UV. Feel free to add to this list. Hopefully we'll find which sword does the most REGULAR damage. Not counting bonus damage to different monsters, we're using the bots in the training hall as a base line.

bots = constructs?

I guess the bots in the training hall count as Contructs. Constructs are weak to elemental damage, more or less neutral to shadow damage and resist piercing damage. Normal damage is true neutral, so in this case would cause less damage than shadow (and much less than elemental).

if that were the case, the fireburst brandish would make more damage than the nightblade. but they're both the same.
also attack damage is blue instead of orange (advantage) or gray (disadvantage)

Good point.

Good point.

And as far as damage colors go: I really don't trust those. They certainly don't indicate that you're using a damage type a monster resists / is weak to. It seems to indicate that the total damage of the hit is relatively low/high compared to total monster health capacity. I say "seems" because I haven't done any objective measuring in this area and I definitely don't mean to sound authoritive about it, but in any case I don't use the damage colors to compare weapons.

I'm also still not convinced that the training bots don't have resistances.

yeah that's true about the bots and attack damage, but i'm still sticking to those bots as a base line for attack damage. I still think that this is the best way to find the weapon that does the most damage.

Training Grounds

Depending on what depth the training grounds considers itself, it might not be a good place to compare weapon damage. Weapons are optimized for use within a certain tier, everywhere else the damage is nerfed. An extreme example...

At Depth 7:
Cold Snap 1* 37 Damage
Shivermist 5* 36 Damage (vs neutral)

At Depth 9:
Cold Snap 1* 31 Damage
Shivermist 5* 68 Damage (vs neutral)

Since the CIC is 4* compared to the Fireburst/Nightblade's 3*, it might have an inconsistent damage nerf. Or maybe the training bots are equally weak to non-normal.

Actually... 31 37 51 are the numbers for CIC at Depth 1 :D So yeah, Training Grounds is probably giving everything a Depth 1 nerf. That is bad for any high star weapon.

If you'd like to help with the damage collection effort, check out this thread over in the wiki section.

The bots may act like those

The bots may act like those mini jelly cubes in the Jelly Palace that take extra damage from just about everything not normal? I know I've seen gold numbers pop up against the mini-jellies when using my Freezing Vaporizer.

Cold Iron Carver sucks

i did one floor in tier one and i got the same results as training hall bots vs jellies.

then i did tier 2. Graveyard at depth 10. my fireburst brandish did way more damage than the cold iron carver which has attack bonus undead high.
then did depth 12 which has jellies. both swords did about the same damage with fireburst brandish making just a little bit more. i'm going to call it.. cold iron carver sucks. for a 4 star weapon, it does nearly the same damage as the fireburst brandish. i unequipped it once i reached the terminal.

ATH numbers

Here's some more training hall numbers. My Avenger is level 9, so I could get Level 10 Avenger numbers tonight or tomorrow, but if these confirm that the training hall is the same as depth 1 numbers I'm not going to bother. Erm. Except that none of these weapons are in that data collection... really, nobody did proto sword yet? :O Maybe I just don't know how to use google spreadsheets.

Well, ATH would make an easy way to collect one set of numbers for every weapon in the game, anyway, but would need its own line since they are unspecialized monsters.

Spur Level 10
1-2 27
3 36
Charge 45

Proto Sword Level 10
1-2 20
3 25
Charge 35

Leviathan Blade Level 10
1-2 39
3 47
Charge 64 (per hit)

On mixed-type weapons, don't

On mixed-type weapons, don't trust the color of the damage. It's currently bugged so that it won't always show the proper graphic, sometimes showing grey numbers for an attack that's normal, or normal for an attack that's super. The actual number itself will be accurate though.

Also on mixed type weapons, the damage on average is always going to be slightly higher than comparable single-type. This is obvious just by counting bars: single-type damage weapons have more of any single type, whether that's Normal or Piercing or Elemental or whatever, but combined a dual-type weapon will have more of its two types than even the strongest relative single one.
