seriously, if you stopped you would actually make more money than you currently do spamming promos, though it would be indirect and i guess that scares greedy people.. if you worked on content rather than new promo items over and over you would have MORE people to sell your junk to. more dedicated players and more of the veterans (a lot of which were a good part of your income) would stick around ( and more over, have a REASON to stick around)
this doesn't mean you have to axe promos completely but FFS switch it up. promo, promo, CONTENT UPDATE, promo promo Content? you have already gotten rid of some of the mechanics that made this game more unique in its gameplay than most others. but now, you have gotten rid of heart res and item sharing (the real heart of SK's core co op mechanics in mine and many others opinions) and replaced it with a stale, money making revive system that is straight, BS. seriously? requires A drop down menu MID COMBAT (stopping all character actions) that were supposed to be able to use in places like the ARENA? try doing that in elite arena T3 without getting hit/dying (like its not the intent to get people to have to buy more in CW for 5x the normal price..... so pathetic) (for more on that, http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/100418)
ugh. im not sure whats ahead or if you've gone too far already. but it just seems like whoever's running the show is just assuming that since nick left the game is headed down, and that you might as well wring as much cash as you can out of it while you ride it into the dirt. huge bummer considering the game has more potential than any ive seen in quite some time. it really is a unique game that nothing compares to in certain rights (mainly gameplay/co op). if a small fraction of effort went into helping it grow rather than shocking it into dropping its premature fruit/whats left of what it had, this game could out do so many others and not only hold those players still hoping/hanging on, but grip a whole new playerbase worth of people.
if you really want cash out of it and nothing more, build some content, change a few things you know were crap and set to make petty amounts of cash in between promos. replace the heart and soul of the game, stop turning for the quick money. there is SO MUCH MORE money to be had (and enjoyment for us) if you would take just a couple recent steps back and head in a different direction. not only would the core players rejoice/return/continue (and PAY) many more and new people would come and the profits generated by content would not only crush the promos profits, it would give you more players to sell that junk to in the first place, where as of right now its just a downward spiral/vicious cycle. player base dwindles because of all these things, so you worry its about to fall apart and want to get what you can before it does and so more promo! more boxes! when that itself is the issue. just TRY IT.. i bet your players would surprise you
please just dont let an amazing game die such a horrible undeserving disgraceful death. SK is above that, at least it was. and could still be if you let it
please just dont let an amazing game die such a horrible undeserving disgraceful death.
I agree, as much I want to start singing my usual song on threads like this, I have to tell you right now that SK isn't the first game I seen to have fallen from grace, so many games have become things they never intended to be due to the greed of the developers.
Here are just some of the examples:
Resident evil 4~6: Seriously, RE4 had something going, but then 5 and 6 came along and perverted the game formular, less horror, MORE actions, all in an attempt to appease the CoD fanboys.
Dead space 1~3: Issac can talk alot now, but that is what made him such a good character back in 1, now the rookie engineer who survived Ishimura is nothing more than an average day action hero.
Metal Gear Solid 1~5: Going from its 3rd person root to a FPS shooter, the new MGS V: the phantom pain looks promising story-wise (GG kojima with all the consipracies) but sadly for the old fans, MGS will never be the same again, it is a good news and a bad news really, depends on who you are, but the unfogiving 40$ demo is what killed the new installment for me.
As you can see, even the AAA titles out there are not safe from cash grabs, but let's all to be honest here, the developers of the future will start to appeal as large of an audience as they can to make up for the expensive game development cost.
