Hera VS Cronus: CIVIL WAR - ***RESULTS ARE IN***

Greetings everyone! With Winterfest coming to a close but weather still being… Winterfesty, you all surely are looking for an excuse to stay bundled up inside, at your computer, watching the snow fall outside and not roll around in it.
Regardless of the situation, all of us in the northern hemisphere can agree that it’s still pretty gosh dang cold here. What better way to overcome the cold than to fuel yourself with the passion of a warrior and warm up in the heat of battle?
You see, over the past few months, we’ve had two knights appear in Haven. They are rather elusive, but they are fighters! They are warriors! And they want to rip the soul out of the other one!
These two knights are followers of two of our lovely Game Masters - appropriately named Cronun-Priest and Heran-Disciple. Both knights are on a mission to prove that their Game Master is clearly the obvious choice should you be looking for someone to build a gingerbread house with, or share a cup of cocoa while snuggled up next to a fire watching netflix. Clearly Cronus will add the candy sprinkles just right, and have the better taste in entertainment. Sorry, did I say Cronus? I meant Hera. Or did I?
Now, the two are turning their dispute to you, the knights who populate Haven! Are you up to the task, or will you let their dispute rage on while you warm up with a lonely fireplace? Join the fun!
--------- WHAT IS IT? ---------
This is a team-based community event. On one side, we have the lime-clad fighters of Emerald Poultry. On the other side, we have the purple-poised people of Amethyst Eggs.
If you weren’t already sold on the idea of Cronus VS Hera, at least we can all finally settle the age old question of whether the chicken or the egg is better. Or was it about which one came first? Winner takes all I suppose.
--------- WHAT IS IN IT? ---------
There are two parts to this event. A forum portion, and an in-game portion.
The forum part consists of three categories:
- Art
- Poetry
- Short Stories
Each should be themed around the event.
If you’re running low on creative juices to get you started, this forum thread will have a few ideas to get you started.
The forum event will accept entries from January 1st 2017 until January 23rd 2017 at 11:59PM PST.
The in-game part consists of several in-game events:
- Gold Rush! - Collect the most crowns and deposit them into your guild’s treasury!
- Material Hunt - Collect the most materials and deposit them into your guild’s treasury!
- Prestige Power! - Show off your skills by amassing prestige!
- Chess VS - Compete with the other team in a game of chess!
- Checkers VS - Compete with the other team in a game of checkers!
- Tier 1 and Tier 2 Lockdown - Fight! Win! Earn score for your team through blood and glory!
- Blast Network - Earn score for your team through bombastic battles!
The in-game event will start on January 15th 2017 and run until January 29th 2017 at 11:59 PST.
Scores will be tallied up on January 30th 2017, and the giveaway will commence immediately after the winner is announced.
--------- WHY SHOULD I GET INVOLVED? ---------
Because we’ll never know who is the most fabulous Game Master if we don’t fight each other to find out!
While there is no reward for “winning”, there will be a prize giveaway following the event for all those who participated. The contents of this giveaway come from a donation pot from various members in the community who wish to give away old things. You don’t get anything for donating other than an honorable mention throughout the event, but if the thought of giving warms your heart, then mail any donations to “Fangel” in game.
Additionally, there will be a rather minor participation reward for all who join.
--------- HOW DO I GET INVOLVED? ---------
In order to participate in the forum portion of the Civil War event, you must sign up for the event in the proper forum thread.
In order to participate in the game portion of the Civil War event, there are a few requirements:
- You must have a knight that is rank Soldier (rank missions 4-1 to 4-3)
- Your knight must not have access to higher starred gear
- You must sign up in the forum thread
If you do not have a knight at the proper rank, no problem! You can create a new knight purely for this event! Getting your knight up to the proper rank is pretty simple, and you do not need anything other than an hour or two to reach Soldier rank. There is no orb farming required!
Getting signed up is easy! You simply have to fill in the following and post it in the sign-up forum thread:
- In-Game Name:
Alternative Knight Name:
Team Preference: (Optional)
Art Entry: (Optional)
Story Entry: (Optional)
Poetry Entry: (Optional)
If you sign up before you make a forum event entry, you can always update your post with an entry! Just be sure to add a note to the bottom of your post indicating that you’ve edited your post to include your entry!
Additionally, if you want to talk with people outside of the game, you can run on over to the unofficial Spiral Knights Discord server! We’ll be themed around this event in there for its duration, so come on in and show off how much cooler you are than everyone with fancy lime and purple colored names for validated participants! Go team go!
--------- I WANT TO HELP! ---------
Well you’re in luck! As it stands, we currently have only a handful of Event Officers. Event Officers consist of knights who I’ve reached out to about helping keep this event run smoothly. They answer questions, act as mediators, and try to help everyone involved have a good time. Any player that is causing issues should be reported to an Event Officer to be dealt with.
If you want to aid in this event, contact “Heran-Disciple”, “Cronun-Priest”, or “Fangel” in-game via an in-game mail with the following:
- Your knight name and your event knight name
- Why you want to be an Event Officer
- Why you think you’d be a good fit for an Event Officer
- A reference or two that can vouch for your ability
- A short list of previous/current guilds you’ve been an officer in
Current Event Officers include:
- Sickle-Wielder
- Nuptial
- Salazzle
Additionally, you can help by donating accessories, gear, costumes, and more by mailing items to “Fangel” in-game with the mail subject “Civil War!”. Your items will be added to the pot for the giveaway, and whatever knight you mail the items from will get a mention unless you request to remain anonymous.
--------- FAQ ---------
Q: How do I play chess or checkers?
A: Currently, there are three guilds who are donating their space for the span of the event. You can find chessboards along with pieces in the guildhalls of Echo of Silence, Promise, and Solo Art.
Q: How does checkers or chess work? Can’t you just lie?
A: Only games that are watched by Event Officers are subject to aiding your team’s score. Games not reported by Event Officers are ignored.
Q: Why is does my knight need to be rank Soldier?
A: Soldier rank gives access to Tier 2 of the clockworks, but does not give access to gear that is commonly referred to as “overpowered”. Additionally, players do not have to pay anything for orbs of alchemy or fire crystals as all progression is handed to the player until this point.
Q: What if I accidentally rank up above Soldier?
A: Sorry, but if you are a rank higher than Soldier then your knight will be disqualified, and you will be removed from the event. Should you create a new knight and keep them at Soldier rank and request to be brought back into the event, that is fine, just know that various penalties may be applied if deemed necessary.
Q: Can I fund my knight in the event?
A: Yes, you can fund your knight in terms of gear, recipes, etc. However, you cannot fund your knight to generate score (ie, Gold Rush and Material Hunt events).
Q: Can I have multiple knights in the event?
A: No. You are limited to one active event knight per person.
Q: Can I donate crowns or energy?
A: You can donate crowns or energy, however individual items to give away would be best. There is currently nothing set in place to redistribute any donated currency, however if any donations include currency something will be sorted out to redistribute it.
Q: I don’t like/can’t use the forums! Can I get involved some other way?
A: For the in-game portion of the event, yes! Simply mail your knight name, your alt’s name, and your team preference (if you have any) to “Fangel” between January 1st and January 14th.

Realized I forgot a summary, so here's a TL;DR version for you all.
TL;DR: compete against another team with knights rank 4-3 and below in various events. There is a forum-based event and a game-based event, with forum including art, poems, and short stories. Game events consist of both PvE and PvP methods to gain points for your team. At the conclusion of the event, all participants are given a small prize, and entered into an item giveaway.

Are we allowed to be on team Nick?

If other game masters want to fight they can, but the Civil War may become something out of a greek epic if that's the case!

In what way are Hera and Cronus involved in this by the way?

I've reached out to the GMs over the course of the planning period, and they seemed pretty humored by the idea.
Also because lime and purple are the best choices when picking colors, so we need to pit them against each other and find out which is better.

Is Cronus a bird or is he a fancy pants yesman?

Even though 4-1 to 4-3 Doesn't give you any Advanced Orbs, are you allowed to craft 3* gear as a soldier?

If you want to craft 3* gear you can, however at rank soldier you cannot equip or wield 3* items.
Try to focus your resources on 2* gear or lower!

Just a reminder to you all who wish to join, the in-game portion of the event starts in about a week! Try to get your sign-ups done before then so you're on the same power level as your teammates - and opponents!

Also because lime and purple are the best choices when picking colors, so we need to pit them against each other and find out which is better.
Fixed: "Also because lime is the best choice when picking colors, so we need to continue to establish its dominance over purple."
Is Cronus a bird or is he a fancy pants yesman?
Yes.

Why are the Admin posts colored purple? And why, I ask, do Yesmen wear purple bowties?
This may go deeper than we thought, lads.

If you're looking to participate in the event and want to be on a specific team, try to get your sign-ups done before January 15th!
I'll still be accepting participants throughout the duration of the gameplay event, however you will be auto-assigned a team.
If you find yourself without a knight at rank soldier, but still want to join the event, you can make a new knight at recruit rank and sign up. You'll find yourself with many members who are rank soldier and can help you reach the proper rank - just be careful not to proceed past rank 4-3!
If you've missed it, the sign-up and entries thread can be found by clicking here.

The in-game event has officially started! All members who signed up have been invited to join their respective team guilds.

I can't access Spiral Knights because of some internet issue so don't try mailing me anything.
I just wanted to write a story.

I feel like the Hera VS Cronus event is missing Hera and Cronus................. any chance they want to join their guilds? It'd do wonders for getting people to partake in this.

Should you find yourself wanting to defect to the other team at any time, you can ask someone else on the other team if they want to swap with you! Clear it with an Event Support member first, and you'll get invites to the other guilds as soon as possible!

Cronus erroneously posts: "Fixed: Also because lime is the best choice when picking colors..."etc
I'll believe that when the GM forum posts turn Lime. Obviously purple is the best choice!

Okay, so my original theory was wrong. Apparently the war is because Cronus thinks the admins should Go Green and Hera says that the Original Purple is clearly better.
Yunno, like Splatfests. *cough cough* How convenient!

Hera :D The Amethyst Eggs will prevail!
If we count December 2016, the number of active spiral knights players hasn't been this high since december '14. (at least on steam.)
http://steamcharts.com/app/99900#All
If we keep doing things like this, may we eventually see the resurrection of spiral knights?
We shouldn't get our hopes up too much, but this is all good news.

While you two are busy fighting each other, I'll be attempting to ̶s̶n̶e̶a̶k̶ ̶i̶n̶t̶o̶ ̶G̶r̶e̶y̶ ̶H̶a̶v̶e̶n̶s̶ ̶a̶n̶d̶ ̶c̶h̶a̶n̶g̶e̶ ̶e̶v̶e̶r̶y̶t̶h̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶t̶o̶ ̶a̶ ̶b̶r̶i̶g̶h̶t̶ ̶o̶r̶a̶n̶g̶e̶ do perfectly normal stuff that doesn't involve anything that was crossed out.

this thread is clearly a debate over who would get second place
atalanta has already won this war, anyone who says otherwise is a lost cause

We're about a week into the event now! If you've wanted to make an artistic entry, try to get that in soon, as the deadline for such items will be upon us soon!
Additionally, if players wish to be a part of the giveaway section, you'll need to sign up in the entries and signup post, which I have linked several times throughout this thread. We've got a list of goodies all around, but only players who have signed up (and who have verified themselves by joining their team's guild!) will get a share of the spoils.
Scoring day will be on the 30th of January, at 5pm game time (PST), which will include the giveaway immediately after.
Can we get a status check of the war? Is it favoring one side? Who is winning? By how much? Is it Hera? Is there somewhere that this information is posted, unbeknownst to me?

I'm not going to publicly announce the standings of each team, as that has potential to make the other side feel more pressured while taking pressure off the first side.
What I will say is that one team has more players that have accepted their guild invitations.
... And one team has seemingly more players actively participating than the other.
So if you haven't gotten a guild invitation, check your alt! They may have one sitting around from either "Cronun-Priest" or "Heran-Disciple"! Additionally, you're not making your team any points when you aren't online and playing.
Currently there are 25 knights signed up for the event. Tell your friends about it so we can get some of the PvP games started! I'd love to see the two teams blasting each other up in Blast Network, or hacking away at each other in Lockdown!

The event will be ending rather soon! If you've been meaning to get some points for your team, now would be the time to boost that score!
If you haven't accepted your guild invite to join your team's guild, it's never too late! Well, after the 29th it will be too late. If you don't get verified you'll miss out on one of the 51 prizes that will be distributed to the members of each team.
Additionally, in order to award points for prestige appropriately, you will need to contact an Event Officer prior to scoring day (Monday, January 30th), or have your knight be physically in place at the scoring ceremony with full inspect on, so I can fully tally up the scores.
Best of luck to both Emerald Poultry and Amethyst Eggs!

The Civil War is coming to a close! Get your items thrown into the treasury in-time, and feel free to challenge each other to last minute chess or checkers games should you want to get a few more points for your team!
Tallying up the scores will start at 12 o'clock midnight tonight, but stay tuned for the giveaway on Monday at 5PM PST!
The scoring ceremony + the giveaway will likely take place in Haven 2 or Haven 3, depending on what Havens are available at the time.
Last minute signups and contributions to the teams are still something you can do, so if you want to aid your team or enter for some cool stuff, sign up in the entries and sign-up thread!

The Civil War event is now closed! The points are being tallied up, however the prestige values for each team will be deciphered on the scoring day at the ceremony. Try to be there or get your prestige mailed to your team's Guild Master before 5PM PST!
If you cannot make it to the ceremony and the subsequent giveaway, make sure to check your mail after the giveaway - all items will be distributed to verified members, and will be mailed to their event knight after all items find their home.
Thank you everyone who participated and donated, and I hope to see you all in Haven 2/3 tomorrow!

A mistaken time-zone reading has caused me to donate all my stuff a lil' bit late; damn those timezone differences!
Regardless, I feel I should note that I threw in all of the stuff from my ult, Pootsiepoo, into the Emerald Poultry guildhall. If they aren't going to count towards the overall score, that's fine; I ask that it at least be used for the giveaway at the very least.

The Civil War has come to a close! Thank you to everyone who participated in the event, and a special thanks to Digicom, Hexlash, and Poopsie for donating 49 items into the Civil War's prize pool!
Alas, the real question remains - Which is better, lime or purple?
Well, the answer, obviously, is LIME!
Emerald Poultry came up with a staggering 56,876 points for their team!
Amethyst Eggs played catch-up with an impressive 36,698 points.
Just because Emerald Poultry took home the lion's share of the points doesn't mean that Amethyst Eggs are something to scoff at! Purple reigned king in their chess games, either winning or stalemating with every game! They also had 11 members who signed up and contributed points compared to Emerald Poultry's 9. However, at the end of the day, strength in numbers didn't keep Emerald Poultry away from fighting, and eventually crowning themselves victorious!
--- --- --- --- ---
All members who signed up and verified their accounts by accepting their mails have been sent items from the giveaway. Due to how RNG works, all members who only got 2 items have been given an additional 10 winter confetti to sprinkle on their enemies.
Lastly, with the conclusion of the event, ALL participants have been promoted to Officer. You can make the guilds be whatever you want them to be!
Emerald Poultry and Amethyst Eggs will also continue to be a place where players can pit themselves against each other in a fair competitive environment. Tier 2 Lockdown games limited to 2* gear may be an event to run at some point, so keep your eyes open for anything like that!
I hope to host more events for you all in the future, as this one was a lot of fun to host!

Well, the answer, obviously, is LIME!
I'm about to go into hiding. Cronus hasn't started bragging over the win yet, but he will soon and I'm keen to avoid all that hot air!
Thank you Fangel for taking the time to host this event, and to the awesome knights who entered! Fighting-Polygon thank you too for the wonderful picture! (Yes, I noticed you!)

Thank you event organizers! While we wouldn't like to step in to sway the results, we were watching from the sidelines. It would be fun to see something like this again.
With that being said, it's obviously true: Lime is far superior to purple.
Now, pay up Hera. As the loser, you will spend the next week on the following tasks:
- Tweet at least one complement (about me) per day for 7 days.
- Make me a jug of root beer. I like mine with a little extra vanilla and wintergreen.
- Deploy your robot army to annoy Nemesis rather than me.
- Draw a picture that captures the awesomeness of lime. Said picture must be posted to Twitter (for the world to see) and this thread.
I added that last one after I saw this:
https://twitter.com/SpiralKnights/status/827339153620758530
This is simultaneously awesome and horrifying. I'm saddened that you chose the wrong side, Fighting-Polygon. This betrayal will not be forgotten. You've used your skills to aid the enemy. It's a sad sad day in Haven.

Without you two (and arguably, the rest of the awesome support team!) we wouldn't have these silly little events in the first place! Thanks for being great sports about the whole thing.
... And hey, for the next week, team evil can own the color purple. Not sure if that'll hold for too long after though, as those Amethyst Eggs have got a lot of spirit and a love for purple!

I tried. But I just couldn't think of one thing that I could draw that would make Lime seem awesome. Cronus, you had your tweets. You guzzled your root beer (*shudders*), and Nemesis has been more irritable than usual after I woke her up with that admittedly rather early skype call. But I have to draw the line at the picture. This is all you get!

That picture is 100% pure gold. Cronus will deeefinitely love it. Although, I feel like you could've just drawn the fruit and called it good.

I've got to say, that artwork rivals what Fighting-Polygon pulled for their entry!
Many have donated their time and effort already to make this event happen, and several more will over the course of the event. Thank you all so much for helping make this event what it is!
