Spiral Knights Not avaliable in my region? (Steam)
Hi guys,
I've been trying to get spiral knights on my mac on steam for ages. (I do have an existing account, I've been playing since beta)
Whenever I try and search it up on steam, I get no results. When I go on the direct link, I get this:
Oops, sorry!
An error was encountered while processing your request:
This item is currently unavailable in your region
Any idea how long it takes before it's avaliable in my region? (I live in Hong Kong)
Thanks! (:
Bump. It seems I am not alone in this problem, and that it has existed for some time: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/11262?page=3#comment-64630
RisingIXA, it'd be great if you posted what you figured out as opposed to that you figured something out. If anyone can get a hold of him and point him here, that'd be wonderful as well.
For the record, I started playing SK while I was still in the USA. My account has also been linked, and I have (to me) a formidable amount of time and resources invested in my account (gear + CE + Cr). It was not, however, installed on my laptop at the time. I have since moved to Taiwan, and am unable to install off steam.
I have submitted a support ticket. The support staff appear to be totally unaware of this issue. The first reply simply stated that OOO is not aware of steam restrictions on region, and that I should contact steam.
Of course, Steam is in this case a distributor and not an intellectual property owner. It's interests extend only to the steam platform. If a game (for example, Forsaken World) wants to IP Block, Steam must abide by that decision (which it has). However, if the publisher does not want to block IPs (for example, Global Agenda, Valve) then Valve will offer the title (which it does, in both cases).
I can only assume therefore, that the issue originates with either OOO or Sega. And just as Valve's own titles are available in Taiwan, so are Sega titles (although that does not necessarily signify anything).
A whooping 10 days later, a second, more competent individual responded. OOO does not have regional limitations, according to SK support individual #2, and I was provided with a steam-link. Of course, that steam link still responds that SK is not available in my region.
And of course, for some reason, there is no way to log into your steam-linked account outside of steam.
I'm assuming there is some sort of miscommunication going on with steam - it is my feeling that Three Rings should be in contact with Steam (and not the customers) since it is a Three Rings Product that is being affected by steam, and not due to individual user error.
I'm hoping that this post will gain more attention from the Support personal via the forums. There's a reason why some of us bother to raise this issue - we know it's a great game. But for others, who have never played, they wont even know it exists - nor will they see any reason to raise a fuss. How many new customers might you be missing out on?

Is the Steam wallet functional in your region? It sort of seems like Micro-transactions is a major factor in restrictions for several asian countries, particularly if the payment system is run outside that country. In an ironic twist, this game is available in more then a few countries where the Steam wallet is banned from use.
Probably won't be for awhile, if at all. Most things aren't region locked by default, so theres probably a messy story behind why Steam can't distribute it. You can always download the regular client directly off main site, which will probably be the best solution in the long run.
