since no one is willing to show me a video that proves its possible, i did it myself.

so yea, in the last solo video i wanted to share the tricks to those who haven't yet known but getting rubbed in the face by those who knew.
the debate moved on to whether my suggested "cheap shots" are necessary, as i believe that the game itself is too glitchy to have a fair fight with vanaduke.
people say that it can be done and been done, but i haven't seen any proof, so i didn't know for sure.
but they sounded so certain, thus i went to test it out myself.
i started off failing miserably, on the fifth attempt i made it.

I dunno, this is kind of what I talked about. You said you just wanted to "impress", I said the way you did it wasn't "honorable", and claimed you were just attempting to show off. After all, you were, apparently.

I'd also like to note that I don't think any of us actually called you a "noob", (except for Magnus, ego 'n' that bullshiz) but rather, just said "you weren't as badass as you're trying to be". At most, I only questioned your means and objective.

If it was something to simply teach the exploits or "how to defeat Vanaduke", it'd be fine, really. But showing off, or even trying to show "gear does not matter", it doesn't work well.

On either case? Good job. Although I noticed you were really silly at some parts, (start of final phase for example) you did mostly pretty damn good.

...now to go attempt to do better than that and fail miserably, brb

I'm not a hater, but I do have to contend this point of "no fire resist" At around the 12:00-12:20 portion of the video you caught on fire, and I noticed that the timer on the fire was only 4 seconds. Now I'm quite sure that isn't possible without fire resist gear. Otherwise good job I'd say, but time consuming.

One minor nit. There have been some investigations into how much natural fire resistance that comes with armor counts vs UVs vs trikets. See: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/10522 In that thread, there is evidence that a single med UV is better than a natural "max" fire resist. It is possible that, in effect, you had significantly more fire resistance than you thought.

Even if that apparent bug in UV vs natural resistance really exists, it is still very impressive. It is far from the "standard" all vog cub/DA/AP setup that if you don't have, you can easily be excluded from a FSC run.

There is speculation that those UV's don't cancel out that way.

Someone did some testing and found that UV's could exceed the maximum resistance, but trinkets appeared that they do not. So just having a medium UV fire resist may not exactly cancel out the natural fire resist. With that said I don't think it matters, there is only 1 maybe 2 spots where it would have mattered and you weren't close enough to dying for it to break the run.

Nice job, but frankly not

Nice job, but frankly not impressed. Vanaduke, even without exploits or the "best" gear, is fudge easy assuming you're not lagging or carrying morons within your party. Like every other fight in Spiral Knights, it comes down to dodging attacks and timing your own counters correctly, which is a matter of limited skill- it's not really too hard.

I'm not really directing this at the OP, who admits he just wanted to see if it was possible and that it took him 5 attempts to do this with no deaths, but rather to everyone who's like "OMG BEZT PLAYAH EVARZ, U SO AWESOME." You're all clearly either directionally challenged or you just haven't found out for yourselves how easy this fight is. Spoilers: Very.

But that's really not all that relevant since fire damage wasn't close to killing you and it doesn't help against the slag knights anyway.

What you did was upper percentile and displays skills but that said, I've 1 death solo'd vanaduke with full ash tail (no fire resist or elemental protection) and an omega shell before he was nerfed and honestly I can tell that after fighting him over and over for 100+ tokens worth, it's not all that intimidating an encounter after you figure out slag charge timing, lava saturation, the mace's safety range...etc
Instead your confrontational video is more of a bit of an elitist cliche stance in a game that is ironically, let's face it, quite easy. Just ignore people giving you crap; you were making vids to help others and in my book, that means you don't need to justify yourself to anyone, especially in a belligerent way.

But I guess it's too late to stop the arms race now so I'll look forward to seeing the video of the first player who killed vanaduke with a birthday suit and a roll of toilet paper. =P

Looking at the video, I see 6 seconds, and quick work putting the fire out. According to eek5's post in http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/10522#comment-81115 (the thread mentioned above), that is equivalent to any of:

6s 8 bar mad bomber + mad bomber with UV med for fire
6s 8 bar - volcanic demo alone
6s 8 bar - low uv alone (2*, 3*)

No fire resist at all is 8 seconds and 9 bars.

The best fire resistance can be obtained, among several combinations, via a medium and a low UV only.

As for now he's shown he could be one of the closest to be the best player, that's the point. Also then again, its really entertaining and useful to see different ways of dealing with Vanaduke. Tell you what, I saw Rits' first video last Saturday, it gave me will to try myself. I've solo-ed it twice without dying so far, and I've never died before reaching the last part, thanks to Rits' tips. I certainly won't justify I won against Vanaduke because its supposedly easy to deal with it.
Also using "exploits" to kill it really shouldn't be a concern: screen randomly freezes, lag spikes spoils the character's move and actions..the mobs/bosses themself have plenty inconveniences they can exploit to beat us.

Nobody is saying that what the OP did was easy. It's a well done kill, and most people don't have the ability or motivation to do it.

Replicant and Ragdoll are just pointing out that this is another e-peen thread by a player desperate for attention. That's fine, it's just not everybody's cup of tea.

Using another game as an example, in World of Warcraft there are PvPers that crave the adulation of their peers so they release videos of them "owning" others. Unfortunately, while those players are perhaps the most well known PvPers, they aren't actually the best as can be seen when they never come close to winning anything in a true competitive setting.

E-peen or not, I'm grateful to the people who post videos where you can see what they do. I'm not good at games, and it takes me a long time to figure out things that may be simple to others; for example, it was a week before I stopped using the mouse to move, 2 weeks before I remapped shield to left-click, and a little longer before I realized you didn't have to shield all the time, you just had to dodge a lot of the attacks in the game. *(at one run per day on mist energy)

If I can learn things from videos instead of learning on my runs and dragging down people around me, isn't that good?

Also thanks to eek5 for posting those private greaver bombing vids, they let me see:
-how to take down greavers with blast bomb line (I can now actually do it, even if not perfectly)
-I'm not skilled enough for DBB (saved the energy from having to try it)

Between all the open space,

Between all the open space, running and strafing, and gunplay, it didn't actually seem very technically complicated to do.

Maybe I'd take more damage, but the feat shown before us will be replicated many, many times before too long by many different people. It just isn't that hard.

The real test to is going to be how FAST the Van kills are gonna be, not that someone actually did it.
