If there was a Battle pet or Battle Mecha with you that can be equipped then I would be happy and everybody else! please try and think about it :D

They need better inteligence first

Like the Mecha Knight that you can rarely summon, AI allies are actually bad, they don't follow a strategy and end up killed rather quickly. And when they do attack, they knock enemies right next to you. Their only use is as a decoy.

Brilliant pet ideas

I swear i was gonna make a post about pets in a day or two
Well here are the ideas

Iguana-
A pet type from the chromalisk family
His attacks are a slime shot for all Tiers
If it fights a monster with a health capsule
He will use his tongue to take it from them
Then he craps out a bunch of hearts

His appearence is brown and yellow and will resemble a thorn devil lizard (TDL are real animals)

Skunk-
Will be a distant cousin from the wolvers
His attacks include a gas that trails behind him that inflicts poison to all enemies
He doesn't need to be intelligent just runs around the room stopping gremlin healers and whatnot

His appearance will be black and two white lines going down his back and tail
Body is very similar to a wolver

This animal can grow up to be an Alpha Skunk
Once an alpha skunk a very large area around him is covered in poison gas
Giving him free mobility to single bite an enemy

Mobile Puppy-
A puppy that you must lift and carry around to areas where enemies are
Once placed it will constantly fire at enemies
Has a temporary shield to help protect against enemies
It regens the shield's strength like a normal shield does

This puppy doesn't have a stone surface instead it is made of metal
This pet can also evolve into an M.R.P
Now it fires rockets that don't home in but they go fast and cause fire status

Sprout-
A skinny and slightly smaller lumber
It is a very weak lumber compared to them, but moves very fast
It has two axe tree hands like the sentinel
It just runs around spinning its arms to cause the most damage to anything it runs into

Appearance is up to OOO

(Mecha Knight has been done)
(Retrode is too similare to Mechaknight)

Shuttlebot-
A bad experiment gone wrong for the Gremlins
It's a normal scuttlebot hooked up with several exhaust points
It's attack is a ram
All of its exhaust points now spew out fire and it quickly rams into an enemy
Once the ram is done it will do a little robot sneeze and the exhausts will shoot out an explosion of fire
All enemies and allies (yes allies) around it get inflicted with fire

(Devilites are workers of clockworks they aren't pets)

Weaver-
A greaver with a distinct charcteristic
It has a similar ass part that spiders have
It shoots out frozen silk that encase the enemy in ice causing a frozen status

Very ugly

(A wing would be way OP)
(Gremlins are little cradle people, not pets)

Ghost Jelly-
Like the ghost cube except in a jelly form
When an enemy tries to attack it it will disappear, then reappear in the same spot a second later and bang into the enemy like normal jellies do
The ghost jelly can't disappear like that until five more seconds
So during that time it will run
It also attacks normal when it can disappear it will try and attack enemies normaly

Looks like a ghost cube (blue disappearing block)

Lichen Splitter-
Looks like a medium sized lichen
Attacks like a litchen
But
When attack instead of taking damage it will separate into two smaller lichens
Then those two lichens can only separate once
If it is attacked after that the lichen will take heavy damage if attacked in a smaller form than a big one
After it seperates it has to wait 10 or 5 seconds until it can become one again

This lichen is black and a little redder black in the middle
This pet can evolve/grow (whatever i said before)
Now it can become a Lichen Hitter
Now it seperates on purpose
It is now the size of a lichen colony
It will split into how many needed lichens to completely encircle an enemy
Then they just non stop ram into the enemy until it falls or after 5 seconds because thats how long it can keep it apart
It will also shoot a single spike

Both the Lichen Hitter and Splitter can not attack airborne monsters

Lichen Polyp-
This is a yellow polyp the only reason why it's called a lichen polyp
You are able to throw this polyp to any desired location
You can't place it down only throw it
If you wanna move it again just right click it just like the Mobile Puppy
Attacks like a normal polyp

Howler-
Its only the separate head from the body that follows you and explodes
Now it just flies around the room trying to explode in an enemies face
The bones will fall on the floor and the oozing color inside is scattered
It will take the Howler ten seconds for the soul crap to come back to the bones then reassembles itself
While in this broken state it is vulnerable to attacks from enemies, but only those that can hit the ground

Color depends on OOO

Moodkat-
A kat with the most disturbing face
That's why it wears a mask
The mask looks like one side is happy face the other is a sad face
It looks like a normal Kat and also attacks like a normal one

Zoey-
A female Zombie
All ideas for this depend on OOO non-perverted devs, but maybe some are

Possibly MechaKnights become purchasable and are removed from clockworks
That way all pets are purchasable with a high energy cost
And pets dont die forever you must revive them with your own health or you must revive them with energy or they will be put in your inventory and you cant take them back out until you come to the rest stops

This has come up a few times

This has come up a few times before, and personally I am totally against any feature that gives players a potential edge in combat in a way that doesn't reflect their actual skill. MechaKnight AI is incredibly terrible but sometimes that extra body in the room is a useful distraction, if nothing else, so there's a decision to make regarding whether or not it's worth picking up their summon item. A pet that follows you around is a no-brainer, it'd become practically mandatory.

I get that people like having pets in these sorts of games, and they'd potentially be a great resource sink if you had to train them up &c, but they're problematic for game balance. I'd be happy with nonfunctional pets that just follow you around Haven, or even did non-combat tasks like picking up heat and Crowns in levels, then made themselves scarce if a fight broke out. But I don't want a little monster dude fighting my battles for me. I'm here for the fights.

Nighty-Mx's picture
Nighty-Mx
I agree with Effrul i dont

I agree with Effrul i dont want a pet or bot doing the battle for me, and usually sometimes those kind of AI can be Annoying, like having a good Sword charge to deliver on a group of enemies then mecha knight hit them and push them away. now if we have battle pets i dont want to imagine...

i would agree on have a pet if they just follow you around doing NOTHING or just collecting crown and heat (like in other MMORPG where pets can collect the loot maybe a few know what game im talking about) or just giving some stats BUT not overpowered stats i dont know, maybe 2+ health at lvl 10? and stuff like that.

but a battle pet? sorry no, i like fight enemies by myself. this game isnt digimon or pokemon lol

Heavy-Duty's picture

Accessory?

Could it be possible for it to be an off body accessory? Probably would be able to give the accessory lines a little more shine to them :D

Effrul's picture
Effrul
Ooh

Now THAT is a good idea.

Kazzol
No!

No no no no no NO! IT will cost a ton of CE and will make the game even more pay 2 win >.<

Nighty-Mx's picture
Nighty-Mx
well i dont see how

well i dont see how collecting the loot (since everything its shared in same amount for all the players except the materials) would affect to everyone well, now talking about the stats given by the pet well that really would give a little advantage (but trinkets do that too). but would be less than a pet that can fight for you (thing that im agaisnt) but yeah i will have a pet if it only its an accesory and not something that help me on my battles

Heavy-Duty's picture
Heavy-Duty
PLUS

It might balance the whole accessory system's haters. Want a friend? BUY ONE! (Plus it could lower Cr4Ce !)

Oakgear's picture
Oakgear
Not OP

Do you seriously think the pets do that much damage?
They obviously gonna cause about 20 or less to be balanced

Besides some pets move as slow as hell
And did you forget they can die to
So you need to revive them
Not OP

Oakgear's picture

Say what pet's your favorite

I like the Lichen Polyp
Just have a jelly in your hand and your running
That would make me laugh

Trinket, not accesory. This

Trinket, not accesory. This would be ok, prevailing that they take trinkets out of pvp.

Heavy-Duty's picture
Heavy-Duty
What's OP?

What's OP? And I also don't like the damaging/ need to revive pets idea. WAIT! When you die, how about a funny little animation that Devilites have before a bomb? They do that when your dead and run around your dead body, scared and panicking?

Oakgear's picture
Oakgear
That'd be good

OP= over powered

Your pet completely stops attacking when they see you die
And those that can move around will run around you

@Orangeo
Oh yah of course they won't be in PvP
That'd be way too OP

Heavy-Duty's picture

Gun puppy pet...

Im seeing turrets on swivel chairs :P

Oakgear's picture
Oakgear
I made gun puppy pet

Didn't you hear
I named it mobile puppy

I just though of something...
If you had the skunk pet in lock down the opposite team could no longer heal
That'd help but OMG way too OP

Heavy-Duty's picture
Heavy-Duty
I saw your mobile puppy

but i'm still seeing turrets on swivel chairs instead of carrying them around. it's cute and funny. I also see the carrying is very funny, just look at the puppie all confused on why you're carrying it... and would the skunk look like a wolver? Also, if you don't have to revive pets (they dont die) then wouldn't they still fight long after you're dead and kill all monsters for you? problematic much? why just nto use as an accessory or trinket that bumps into enemies to start diversions :D then they chat or try to battle with the monster! (gun puppy falls over on swivel chair)

Oakgear's picture
Oakgear
Watch what your saying

Half of what you said just now is OP
This is what it needs to be
You need to revive you monster < OP
They stop fighting when you die < OP
They help fight monsters > OP
They are smarter > OP
They cost energy < OP
If you go to next level without you reviving your pet you need to reequip it at a rest stop < OP

Basically you need to have two statements below OP for every OP statement

And since its a hassle to carry turret pets maybe they won't stop attacking when you die
This way we can switch crap out to make it balanced
If they could move by themselves they would need to stop attacking and circle around you
So no swivels cause SK don't have furniture

And yes the skunk looks very similar to a wolver except it is colored like a skunk
So body and tail the same

Oakgear's picture
Oakgear
Now onto the other issue at hand

How should having a pet grow up work?
Maybe something you get from the prize wheel
Or
A special vendor that helps train your pet
Or
With heat you earn in a level your pet goes to level 10 then grows up
Or
Maybe level 20 for pets that way its longer
Or
Someone else can come up with it
(Make sure it ain't OP)

Heavy-Duty's picture
Heavy-Duty
I only questioned, not OPing!

I was asking- not trying to make any suggestions major to power. Oh, and "So no swivels cause SK don't have furniture," DEVILITES THROW FURNITURE EVERYWHERE!!!!!! I've also seen swivels :D. Anyways, I proposed distracting enemies, not fighting at all. No carrying because carrying disables any of your attacking, making it much of a hassle to carry a puppie that would deal minimum damage.

Nighty-Mx's picture
Nighty-Mx
reading the "type of pets" i

reading the "type of pets" i can say theyre better than any bomb to inflict status, not matter if they can die. they still seems bit OP and even if they just do 20 damage (if we are talking about normal damage) its still really powerful for a little pet.

what define very well spiral knights its: no matter if you buy stuff with real money or no, you dont have great advantage over other players. of course trinkets can give a little boost but that its just a little boost. pets as you put them seems a moderate boost than trinkets can do and most important: not every player would have one of them (and i know people that get everything without paid something)

anyways its better to have the pet just for "visual" thing for the player and well if they going to help better if they just can give a little status boost like trinkets do or well collect the loot while the player its fighting (in the camera area for the player so they cant go any futher), maybe just leveling them like weapons do or well just feeding the pet certain hours and with certain resource so they cant grown stronger in short time and the player take it time to make them grown. but give them the ability to fight its a no. thats my View point at least.

Oakgear's picture
Oakgear
How you place it

The mobile puppies are placed down before you start fighting
No furniture with pets thats weird
And the polyp you throw in front of you in a distance so no hassle really
Really benefits in arena

@Nighty-Mx
How do you not understand the basic laws of OP
2 unders for every over powered

What's the point of pets if they just walk with you in haven and what not
Frankly I don't even think your a wise criticizer...
Just an annoying one

Id like to have a pet help me stop that ahole gremlin mendor from healing
And for danger rooms and arenas a pet would help me stop a few monsters from a horde thats following me
Think happy thoughts you fool

Nighty-Mx's picture
Nighty-Mx
@oakgear i think players

@oakgear

i think players like Effrul and others with good experience in game play would know that a attacking pet would just mess some strategies in game how about freezing enemies then a pet turn on fire or hit a frozen enemy in rooms like the never ending spawn bots in Iron claw?

and now if my comment dont agree with your "idea" for battle pet its a reason to insult me? wow. that really made me laugh because if you dont like someone opinion you insult them? lol

still believing that those yes indeed are bit OP to the point that i dont need even to bring a bomb to inflict status according with your pets power. just let the pet inflict them without swichting to a bomb or gun to inflict the stats. (so why i would need vials or bomb if i have a pet ?)

and yes accesories are purely visual whats the point to have them? just to be different than others. thats its, and pets would be the same things without affect game play a lot. now if a pet need to do something to help maybe just collect the loot that monsters drops and maybe give little boost like trinkets but that all not fight for me.

have good day sir.

Oakgear's picture
Oakgear
Because!

There is only two pets that inflicts status and its only poison and freeze the weakest ones and they won't cause damage!
Then you change you pathetic "strategy"!
If pets were as stupid as accessories then it wouldn't be a sink for OOO!
Its "have a good day, sir" what are you ten?
And don't you edit it!

Nighty-Mx's picture
Nighty-Mx
lol i edit my post to add

lol i edit my post to add more things and no i dont need to edit my posts because i dont have something to hide.

and i think effrul stated very well the argument im using as base for my opinion. those pets just would affect gameplay. having a pet doing the job for me? no thanks because dont require effort by my part just let the pet do the job like pokemon thingy.

if you dont read effrel post because maybe you want to rage to someone because im dont agree on your idea about pets attack i will left it here his argument which one its very very valid

By effrul
"This has come up a few times before, and personally I am totally against any feature that gives players a potential edge in combat in a way that doesn't reflect their actual skill. now youre raging on me? lol seriously accesories dont do something and still being sink for OOO people will keep buyin Ce to get the accesory they want. i did it time back to get my mecha wings. why not the others? also pet as accesory will make again sink for OOO. even if you dont want to believe it.

and yes avoid to look for arguments to make me rage because im not even insult you but you go "full mad" just because my opinion. think whatever you want, its my opinion like others. and i think a fighting pet isnt a good idea, a helper that can only collect loot or heat or well at least giving a bit of boots its enought to make the pet profitable for both players and OOO

Avihr's picture
Avihr
what?!

seriously? a pet being OP? just look how easy mecha knights die int tier 2/3

anyway you can find mecha knights on drops so i don't see why they affect gameplay, they are in the game already...

also, trinkets are not based on a player's skill, but they do affect gameplay... as well as anyone can choose to get elite shash module they could use a pet, why not?. (im not saying they should be used in pvp matches, i hate trinkets in pvp, but would be good for tier runs)

Nighty-Mx's picture
Nighty-Mx
im not agaisnt with the pet

im not agaisnt with the pet being implemented, just able to fight. of course trinkets not are part of the player skill but a pet able to fight would affect game play too. a pet just following around collecting loot or well giving a little boost like trinkets do its enought for them also that would make profit from them more if you get random pet like accesories do (thing that would happen)

maybe those abilities for the pets looks OP for me. but still thats my View point. like everyone post here their viewpoint. and of course i see how easily mecha knight die and hardly last on those arenas T2/T3 but they not are enought to make a least a help more than a decoy for enemies. sometimes just a Mech push my enemies when someone in my group summon them, dealing less damage instead my damage. but oh well. just saying

i think that the pets would

i think that the pets would be good to a limit of they would either get in your way or would die and be a pest, this would be good if you could summon/get back the pet in a click of a button this way you dont have to have it out, also if your pet dies then there is a cool down time that stops you having to waste HP on a little thing. This is my opinion on the idea of pets :D

Oakgear's picture
Oakgear
@Nighty-Mix

You must be a weak player
If you for one just gonna let your pet do the job for you
I for one am not going to wait for my to finish them all off
Besides about:
1/3 of the pets don't even cause damage
1/3 of the pets have draw backs to their attacks
1/3 of the pets aren't strong enough until they grow up

Did you even read the ideas?

But apparently I can't change your mind
Haters gonna hate
Trollers gonna troll

I'm starting to think you don't even like animals in general
You animal abuser you...

Nighty-Mx's picture
Nighty-Mx
@oakgear LoL im not a troll

@oakgear

LoL im not a troll and yes you cant change my mind but what basically all are asking for battle pets its because you want them do the job for you thats easy and yes i read the ideas and what im not its for the pet let fight thats simple as fehzor and effrul stated this not pokemon seriously. and i think you dont even read their opinions and only mine? why? just because i dont agree with your skill idea on your pets :P.

grown a bit oakgear and learn to respect everyone opinion just because i dont agree that pets would attack and not agree also with your idea im troll??

lol let your mind mature a bit dont think? and now animal abuser?? loool that was a good one. but sorry to dissapoint you but i dont hate animals in general as your little rage mind think. not even insult you in my post :P but whatever.

Dont be stupid this aint pokemon.. WE DONT NEED "PETS'' yah you say "Battle Pets" but in reality its just a "pet".... no..

this game doesnt need them..
yah itll create money but itll bring way more trouble then good..

look at the roboknights that you can already sumon.. theyre weak, anoying, can shock us,newbies attack them because theyre confused, plus not to mention if you summoned it and you die it just hovers over your body.....

Um im sorry but you cant just "put intelligence into them" yah i get you can program them but they'll always be stupid, theres always going to be a problem with them.....

this ideas been brought up to much and theres always good reasons why its not up... so deal with the fact that there are no pets, get over it and go back to WoW if you want pets....

@Oakgear
No need to become offensive because somebody disagrees with your ideas. While you clearly put a lot of time and effort into them
and hold them quite dear, keep things civil and on-topic.

Personally I disagree with pets because while Spiral Knights definitely has a "cute" element, pets just add a whole different level of saccharine "kiddiness" to the game. Additionally, pets having any effect in battle removes a portion of the battle's outcome from the player's hands and places it into the hands of an AI. That doesn't sound like fun to me.

I'm all for customization and crown/mat sinks but I don't think pets would add any value or depth to this game.

Oakgear's picture
Oakgear
Well then whats the problem here

Are these pets OP or just boring?
Are these pets a problem or do you guys want some help?

I'm starting to get sick to my stomach with all this Nay-saying
How does a pet that does 20 or less damage give such a big advantage?
Some don't even attack

I really don't know why you guys are thinking like this
What do ya mean pokemon
I'm not saying putting in some fury ass yellow mouse
I'm not saying give them a bright red ball so they can chill in them
They will be living things and they to will die and needed to be revived

Just cause it might not work doesn't mean you don't have to give up hope of getting yourself a companion
And yes actually I do take pride and stuff like that in my ideas
I'd seriously like a polyp i can carry in my hands

Tanbon's picture
Tanbon
How about this? You can bring

How about this? You can bring one pet with you to any level, but you can only use it one level, like how vials work. After that you can't use the pet anymore until three (or whatever number) levels pass, Clockwork terminals and towns not counting. The limited use would prevent pets from being overpowered, instead of making them extremely underpowered in exchange for supporting you every level you go.

On what would the pets be, I'm actually a little against them being creatures from the Clockworks. I'd rather that they be totally unique and found only in iron lockboxes (it's not Pokemon because it's a cube).

Oakgear's picture
Oakgear
No its pokemon

Cause you put them in a shape

But yah your idea can help

Perhaps you can only do it once between rest stops
That way since noobs suck at Tier1 pets can be used there cause there are fewer levels between rest stops
And as you go down there are more levels between rest stops

Now maybe those people above you are satisfied

@ Oakgear

Not everyone is going to like your ideas. Not everyone is going to want pets in the game regardless of their form. Deal with it, because no amount of complaining or compromise will change their minds. It's not that they're being obtuse on purpose; they have different opinions and views, and so not everyone is going to be able to get their way.

I could handle "pets" if they were like the Mecha Knights you find in the clockworks (consumable items, limited AI, disappear after a couple of minutes). That could be neat. But the idea of "companions" and "equippable personal pets" is groan-worthy to me.

Not everyone likes oakgears

Not everyone likes oakgears ideas. SHOCKER, BZZT. That being said, it's becuase he submits twice as many as anyone else, and tends to step to far from what we already have. Being creative is fine if you accept critique.
Anyhow, I'm really generaly not into this stuff, where people pull the dual weilding idea out again or something else dumb, but oakgear is kinda making sense. Let's first just get the use out of the way before we suggest actuual types though. How about a trinket that spawns you with a mecha knight kit at each terminal? It still takes up a spot on your 1-2-3-4, and you can only use it on one level. Before we jump ahead to custimization or different star trinkets or different allies, let's just focus on that, then we can talk about "mobile turrets".
Though bear in mind that OOO has a 0.001% chance of incorporating this into the game, regardless of how many people like it.

My Main Problem

Somewhere along in the discussion Oakgear got the idea that his pets would be the ideas the developers would pick. Pets need to be vanity, do no damage, remove no and give no status effects, etc etc. Vanity, non-pokemon, item collectors I can tolerate. Flashy battle interrupters I would kick from my party in a flash. I'm sure that pets have been suggested for ages now; if the developers wanted this feature there would be talk of it by now.

GUYS... or instead of battle pets...

there could be a "PvP" where you can train and raise a pet, and take it with you in the clockworks to level up, customize, then when your happy you can enter it in something like pet games. Pets can race, battle, or just do anything else. at least thats my idea. (btw, when you take it to the clockworks, they dont battle, they can just be there to look cute or what not)
