Spiral Knights + WiiWare

Think about it, you can play from the comfort of your bed or couch. The controls of Spiral Knights aren't all that complex either, so it could work with the Nunchuck + Wiimote or Classic Controller Pro. The game would be available as a free download on the Wii and it would function the same as it would in a web browser or Steam. I mean, if Three Rings/Sega are making trading available via Steam, imagine the partnership they could make with Nintendo, plus the fact that the Wii has the largest market share of consoles (not to mention the coming of the Wii U). The motif of Spiral Knights fits well into a Nintendo library anyway, seeing as the gameplay is heavily inspired by Zelda/Bomberman.
So?

Sounds like this might make an interesting Suggestion. If only we had a forum for brilliant ideas like this.

I recently thought about SK on the 3ds, imagine controling your knight the same way you can control Link in Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks... but i guess the wii would be more apropriate, due to wi-fi issues (3ds can't have a wired connection).
But i don't think this will happen, since the wii isn't java-compatible.
Cool idea though, it would rock ^^

I love this idea. Big problem is the work involved and money involved in porting it to the wii.
Look at how long Mojang has been talking about getting Minecraft onto the xbox. I think they announced that nearly a year ago(could be way over exaggerating). I just got a wii for myself and my muchkin who is starting to have the capacity to play video games with me. Most games have at least a little bit of motion control. Maybe with Sega they have the man power to do this. I know that Tera is trying to get into console market and its an MMO, not sure how many others are like this.
Something interesting about console gamers is this. The call of duty franchise is the same price as world of warcraft. A new call of duty game comes out every 6 months at $60, thats $15/month. plus DLC's. New call of duty games are just new maps, hardly any single player stuff, all online multiplayer actoin. WoW is slightly more with the expansions every 18-24-30 months. they are about the same price to keep up with everyone else. SK is cheaper entertainment.
Does the Wii have indie games on its online store?

@Rustyspade
The WiiWare does have a selection of both indie games and titles from large publishers like Capcom, Sega, Konami and more. Since Sega will probably play a more vital role in the future of SK, it's possible they could provide the financial means to port to a home console.
@Dirt
This isn't something I'd suggest, seeing as Three Rings is already working full time just trying to work out kinks in the game. I just wanted to have a discussion about the possibility of this. Personally I'm a big Nintendo fan and see something like Spiral Knights brought to my favorite company would be a real thrill. But this is favorite MMO that I've played so far--other than Phantasy Star Online.

Simple solution would be to set up a gaming HTPC with an xbox controller. Load it up with games like Spiral Knights and maybe a few emulators for some retro action and you'll be set for some delightful big-screen lean-back livingroom gaming fun.
personally i dislike wii, but it still sounds like a great idea to me

This is probably the closest to Wii-Ware we would probably get.

With the Wii going through its final year and the incredibly restrictive limitations of WiiWare, there's no way it could happen at the current moment. The Wii U, coming out in 2012, seems to be a good bit more powerful than the Wii, and online is generally all in the developer's court, so it's very possible on the next console. However, I can't say it's a good idea when anybody who has Internet to play Spiral Knights on a console most likely has a computer already. Taking time out of development to put it on an extra console seems wasteful, and like somebody said, it's not hard to connect a Wii remote to your computer via bluetooth.

Well, this won't technically work. WiiWare is locked to only 40MB. So I think it's quite impossible to compress Spiral Knights to a small 40MB.
The reason for this is, that WiiWare only can be run from the internal memory. The internal memory is really really really small, that's why the 40MB limit.

Wii U is meant to be like a new Wii controller for the Wii, completely compatible with everything (except older gamecube stuff)
But yeah it'd be better financially and all those other -ly categories to wait to program it for the Wii U

The point of expanding it to a home console would increase said amount of players. Just a thought really.
@Timewalker
Do you have a source on that bit of knowledge, I'd like to know more.

@Spookydemi
Oh, just search in Google for 'WiiWare 40MB Limit' and you'll see lots of articles about cancelled games (like Super Meat Boy) or games that couldn't get released (like Sonic CD) becuase of the 40MB limit.
However, 3DS would be possible because there seems to be no known limit for now. The biggest 3DSWare is 1500+ Blocks big which would be roughly converted to 190MB. But I'm pretty sure that the 3DS isn't powerful enough to run Spiral Knights decently.

@Oakgear: The Wii U is an entirely new console, although it is backwards compatible with the Wii like the Wii was with the Gamecube.
Also given that Nintendo are seemingly working with third parties to allow various online servies (We know EA games will have Origin on the system, and it's rumoured other developers will have similar services) it's probably the most viable console for a game like SK, especially since Ninty and SEGA tend to be on good terms these days.

I have a 3DS and you can seemly increase the space by replacing the SD Card as things obtained from the E-Shop is stored on the SD Card...so yea
Plus it would be awesome to have it in 3D!! And maybe support the Streetpass Feature Too! You could meet fellow knights while you are walking on the street!!!

Add in some CE along with the disc and I'd buy... *COUGH* two copies *COUGH*

Buy now and get 2000 EC! Comes with a promotional Mario hat to put on your Knight to make him or her look even more ridiculous than they usually do.

That's odd, I wonder if that space limit only applies to WiiWare games and not Virtual Console games, cause there are games on the Virtual Consoles that are fairly big.

nunchuck+wii mote
nunchuck:
up
down
left
right
wii mote:
enable/disable swing sword (swing remote)
A = shield
B = attack
Z= switch weapon
+ options
game should be free so more people can play on the wii
ce can be purchased by WII POINTS! lol
enable/disable spin knight (point at screen for aiming)
cursor- point at screen

@Spookydemi
Doesn't matter. Virtual Console games are only emulated retro games from older consoles, so only Nintendo maintains this.
This doesn't have anything to do with new games from 3rd party developers. :P

A very sad Spooky, indeed. Ah, well I can dream, maybe for the Wii U! :D
If you want to use a controller to play, sk supports that already.
I like my mouse and keyboard better but sometimes i'll use my xbox controller, works fine.
