Saw some discussion and a comment by Dancinjen (Dan is his real name) about the Electron Vortex. It motivated me to throw something together today. This is probably all old news, but whatever, if you haven't seen it I put together a quick demo video. It's a MONTAGE and the music SUCKS too, so be sure to down vote it, it hurts my feelings. XD

If the audio gets junked, it's mirrored at Metacafe:

Total domination.

@Dan

Yeah, so many people spamming it and scattering stuff around in groups. So far the only people I've played with who get the timing are Exile and Nal. When you have multiple brandishes from many angles, everything vanishes. 8D

I have/use an e- vortex

I have/use an e- vortex correctly. I use mine for JK though, as it has a slime high UV on it and I can daisy chain when my party decides to derp and not attack anything I vortex. I rarely use it any more though, as people either fail to let me use it (instead spawning enemies and otherwise swording stuff randomly when I do drop it, like I said previously), or I have to bring something with a charge that doesn't work with it.... I only have 2 weapon slots.

If you were aimed at the actual damage, you might've been better off with the Graviton, since it's Shadow, and Jellies will take extra from that. CTR is the better option though. I don't think the bomb damage itself is very much by itself. A good charge time lets you get it dropped and set up quickly.

There's a variety of bomb combos for jelly runs. If you're having trouble with that in groups, I'd go more for an Ash of Agni. It's great damage over a wide area, and softens things up quite a bit. Again CTR as high as you can find. If you're using the vortex bombs if you bait and side step the jelly spikes you can finish small groups with a Gran Faust or larger ones using a well placed Acheron charge attack. Both are fairly devastating. Plenty of other sword charge attacks mesh well too if you don't have those.

I'd like to play with you sometime. I also use a E Vortex paired with a Voltedge, and it wrecks havoc EVERYWHERE.
Just gives me more reason to hate shiver, >.>

Shivermist has always made me

Shivermist has always made me a very sad panda. XD It's a good learner bomb maybe, if you're soloing and stuff is too hard, and maybe good for carrying a ~_~ group through Vanaduke. Outside that it is definitely a tempo killer, and sometimes an icy tomb. XD

wow nice. if you swap the voltedge out for a combuster, would it still be as effective (against other monsters not resistant to shock and fire)?

Yeah it should still have the raw elemental damage. The only things that are handy about the Voltedge is that it almost ensures everything that doesn't die is shocked, and in group play it keeps them neatly packed together for a follow up attack (So does a Glacius, even more so). Mainly though it's the rippling shock damages that help interrupt attacks and fire breathes. Very handy when diving in for the swing damage.

Solo, I think you should still be able to demolish them just the same, they don't really live long enough for the shock spasms to do their full damage.

Good to see another skilled

Good to see another skilled gravity sword-bomber. I've been one myself for most of my SK career. Something like 35 weeks of using it I guess. I've spoken heavily on the use of vortex already, specifically in this thread: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/21959.

Though I personally use Glacius because I prefer the freeze for four reasons mainly:
- More assured that the bunch of enemies will stay together (though a needless worry with more than 5 or so with Electron)
- Since Electron already shocks (though I do concede that shock is very much win in this situation and the more of it the better)
- Since I already have a Glacius with CTR high, =p
- Because I can freeze the first wave of enemies infront of me if I get overwhelmed then use that time to charge up a Vortex to smash them.

Also with the comment to Graviton, if you're using it in conjunction with charge attacks then having the shock, and thus a safer option as it prevents the fling at the end most times, from Electron is preferable imo to a bit of extra damage.

There are a few points in the video where I notice our styles differ, mainly a few party buttons where you seem to hit the button before dropping an initial vortex, but for the most part we do basically the same strategies and setups. So nice to see there.

Do you use it elsewhere? Just curious, it's in every single one of my loadouts (except those for PvP) and I've used it basically everywhere including SLs with great results.

Edit:

Also, as far as mist bombs comboing with Vortex, personally I think Poison and Shock get the top spots. Though Fire is always nice. I've had the pleasure of being in a party where the three other members spammed Poison, Shock, and Fire mist bombs and it was pure heaven.

@Fehzor - With Ash, the more

@Fehzor - With Ash, the more the merrier. XD Plus you can kite around while things burn and gather them up before your attacks.

@Velcro - Well the double down on shock is mainly to hit what doesn't get shocked, maximizes it. I think the first shock hits immediately too on the voltedge, so when they're packed together it's a few hundred damage dispersed in the lower depths. Plus it's sort of just also handy for when I'm not using the bomb, and sending a shock volley is convenient. I haven't noticed any problems interchanging any of the brandishes for whatever the situation. Some people I run with have Combs and Glacius(es?), stuff still just bites it. I like being paired up with a player using a Glacius though. (If they're using it right)

Yeah I try to carry it along for whenever there is a room with several plus monsters I can kill all at once. Jelly runs and stuff. I've prepped some spawns and buttons with an ash, then vortex, then Acheron charge. I have an CTR V.H. Ash, CTR Med Vortex, CTR High Volt, and CTR V.H. Acheron (Electric Messiah's). Also I like Wolver Den maps, gather them all up and keep my back to the vortex while I charge a Flourish, then drill into them. >:D

I've been doing some variation of Graviton bombing when I first started playing and was limited to the JK tier. Thought it was a cool looking bomb, so was just an interesting discovery. XD Had an old video that had some crappy clips of it from April/May 2011. It was better than I hoped for though. Can't really recall when I started it though. I used to have the 4 star stuff then, like the bomb and a faust. It was before they put the spikes on jellies, so it was easy to get in their face and double swing them in a pile. XD Gave it up for a while, because I had good results with V.H. Ash and various other weapon combos. Also most groups I was in really weren't letting me setup vortexes properly, or taking advantage of them.

Then started messing around with again, and bought an electron for FSC to try out. Got really good though when they revamped the brandish charge attacks. So I started using it full time about anywhere it's useful and time saving.

I don't mind skipping an opener bomb. I like to try to time it right up to my approach as best I can. So I can dodge and drop. A habit now really, since the groups I run with are ultra aggressive. Only have time for one bomb, and sometimes the vortex will end a bit too early when you preset it and make your way back and forth to a button. Be interesting if their was some kind of fuse feature for bombing. ^_^

What next?

Drop some gravs on rabid snarbolax, pref next to the bell.
He's immune to the damage but the pull effect works even when he travels underground.
Strike bell.

Profit.

That's a handy tip, I'll have to remember that, because they get annoying when they run around forever and never attack.

What gear are you using? With my current gear and Glacius, I'm only hitting ~280 for that level, and you're hitting 400...

Just a guess.

@Exile - Yeah, didn't have

@Exile - Yeah, didn't have much good footage sadly. I should run fraps more often. I actually turned if off after a bomb shot, and I rode a Trojan quite professionally. 8D Doh, didn't capture it. Will have to catch it sometime. Like the stock footage there I had at the end.

@Rangerwill Close enough. XD It's High CTR on the Volt. Probably unnoticeable. Medium CTR on the vortex.

So yep, Max Damage, V.H. ASI for melee stats. Normally though I'm leveling armors, so no Vog most the time. Vog feels like God Mode though in comparison. XD

Alright, I got the 4* ash of agni bomb, and heated it to lvl 6. Tommorow, I'll finish heating it to 10, and then the next day, I'll craft Ash of Agni, if I've attained a recipe for that by then.

EDIT: I made the Ash of Agni
