Nerf the Wolver line

Wait, wait, before you start hating, let me assure you that my arguments are pretty solid in terms of content and such.

Why nerf the Wolver line, you ask? It is the most powerful set of armor in the game, almost too powerful. Don't get me wrong, the 5* pieces of the Wolver line are PERFECTLY fine, it's just that early on, Wolver line is too op. Why do you think that Duskers (3* Wolvers) dominate T2 lockdown? It's because of such: they have a Damage Bonus with the most commonly used weapon.

Wait, let's think for a moment. Does SK have any Damage Bonus armors in game that are useful in lockdown? Heck no. The only one's that exist are Damage Bonus vs Monster class, which really aren't too good in lockdown. Another thing: do demos and gunners have a damage bonus armor early on? HECK NO. That's why it's unfair to other classes. I know that people think that the Wolver line is OK, but really, it's broken.

So my suggestion is to convert the Damage Bonus ability into an Attack Speed increased with swords. I think that this fits the line perfectly. This will make the Wolver line balanced, since the demo and gunner armor make it faster for them to attack/ deploy bombs. There isn't any Attack Speed increased with swords ability in any armor early on, so yeah.

No

Make it split into the path ealier since more people might want the damage bonus instead of speed bonus

I have no problem with this. Although for it to be truly even it shouldn't start until three star.

as long as you keep snarbolax and skolver the way they are.

good call.

i figured this would be full of fail and educe nothing but hatred. then i read your suggestion. It was a surprisingly good one that really doesn't have a drawback (i.e. no overt bait and switch rage eminent)

This again

If Wolver lines get nerfed so will Demo and Gunslinger. They all have the same basic stats except Wolver only has three lines whereas the other two have four and one of the Wolver and Demo lines are only craftable upon completion of a Shadow Lair, Snarbolax and Mercurial Demo respectively. I know each of the three weapon types have completely different mechanics; a sword is not a bomb, a gun is not a sword, et cetera. However, the weapon based sets are supposed to specialize in one of the three weapon types rather than give a generic family bonus as several sets do, such as Drake and Chromalisk lines.

To keep this short, to change the Wolver lines from how they are now would mean changing the Demo and Gunslinger lines the same way. Open each of the links below and check each of their defense rates against damage and status, then the offensive buffs:

Wolver
Skolver
Vog Cub
Snarbolax

Gunslinger
Nameless
Justifier
Shadowsun

Demo
Volcanic
Bombastic
Mercurial Demo

Mad Bomber and Deadshot have been excluded because they are exceptions; Mad Bomber concedes some normal defense and resistance to several statuses in exchange for having +4 bomb charge and damage for the set, Deadshot has a +2 undead family bonus as well as a +1 gun attack speed rather than +2 gun speed or damage per piece.

Note how the above linked items are all the same star rank, all have +2 bonus per piece, and resistance to only one status; also, for bombs charge time is essentially attack speed increase as it allows the user to prepare a bomb faster since there is no basic attack. Nameless, Vog Cub, and Volcanic Demo share two similar features: element defense and attack speed relative to their weapon mechanic. Gunslinger lines do not have fire defense, Wolver lines do not have shock defense, Demo lines do not have poison defense. The two Shadow Lair armors of the above, Mercurial Demo and Snarbolax, offer fairly substantial benefits compared to their counterparts; Snarbolax offers two status resistances, Mercurial Demo gives +2 move speed increase and +2 bomb damage for the whole set. These two break the previously stated pattern of having only one status resistance and equal bonuses, seeing as movement speed increase is more significant than ~+7% damage for a bomber.

"But we still want to complain about Wolver even though this is based on swords being overpowered in Lockdown." Though not all swords are balanced compared to each other or other weapon types, that does not mean the equipment set is overpowered; the person who pulled the trigger is why there is a bullet in your head, not the gun which was sitting on the floor before being picked up.

For those still unconvinced, I can keep going.

All throughout the alchemy lines on all three starting at 3*, the three lines are equal in bonuses; Wolver gives sword damage, Demo gives bomb charge, Gunslinger gives gun speed. Swords are superior in dealing damage up front and personal, no waiting around; just jump in and beat the red color out of their blood. Bombs favor more area coverage, which the mechanic demands the charge to be completed in order to follow through; therefore the charge bonus grants bombers the ability to set explosives quicker. Guns take a more indirect supportive role by firing quickly while maintaining a distance from the target, meaning faster firing speed. These are the ingredients chosen to create the perfect little girls. Only at 5* do the three weapon sets branch into a variety bonuses, giving Wolver the choice to have swing speed rather than damage per swing and gunners the choice to have more damage over more attack speed; bombers have a little more freedom in what they do. With Wolver lines you either choose to go with the new attack speed option with Vog Cub (+4 total) or have more damage than you had before with Snarbolax or Skolver (+4 total) sets. For the Gunslinger lines you can stick with attack speed in Justifier or Nameless (+4 total) lines or go with more damage in the Shadowsun (+4 total) lines. For bombers you can either stick with the charge bonus in Volcanic (+4 total) line, take the damage option with Bombastic (+4 total), sacrifice some normal defense and become crippled against several statuses (fire, poison, shock, freeze) in exchange for damage and charge (+4 total on both), or go for the hit-and-run tactic Mercurial set with movement and damage bonuses (+2 total on both). All of these except Snarbolax have only one status resistance. All of these except Mercurial Demo and Mad Bomber have either damage, charge, or attack speed increase to an accumulative +4 for having both parts equipped of the set.

"But I still want to whine, family specialized sets are underpowered in Lockdown still."

It has been discussed what to do about this; more defense for the family specific sets, giving them more family based damage to balance its utility in the Clockworks, giving every armor a family affiliation to make these useful; that last one would make Dragon Scale dominate Lockdown against clones. The plan is to make it fair for everyone except those who whine for the sake of whining. Our issue of Wolver clones in Lockdown seems to ignore that Demo and Gunslinger lines are essentially the same, even titling them less useful than regular armor; what should be done about this? As previously stated in this same post, swords are meant to do damage immediately with no hassle or delay. The problem is their damage is fairly high regardless of the recent buff to guns and bombs; this affected all swords and bombs, even the more powerful ones. It was a fairly neglectful attempt to rebalance the game yet did not address the overall issue: the game is too easy to hand out free weapon buffs for everyone. We want balance, not stacking dominoes higher and higher until the tower collapses. We are stacking them while blindfolded anyway, but we have hands; use them to identify which stacks are ridiculously high and which barely have a foundation.

Good night.

Two things.

One: wolver line starts at 2*.
Two: did you even read the last paragraph which was the original posters actual suggestion? All they are saying is to make the wolver-ash lines have attack speed increase instead of damage increase to better balance the items versus the other weapon classes.

Demo line also starts at 2*. Gunslinger does not because the benefit of gun bonuses is delayed for the user to learn how to use guns before approaching the third tier. As indicated in my previous post the weapon based lines are consistent until 5*, only increasing in the original types of bonuses and resistances until then.

how bout a new line of wolver that increases attack speed :)

And then science

Vog Cub already exists. How about a completely independent equipment line?

If no one else will start this, I will.

what about..

what about a wolver line that has bought :-) but that might op the rest of the line

Do you mean a Wolver version of Mad Bomber? That would be significantly overpowered, considering bombs require the user to prepare an attack while in close proximity while the other is already attacking. The Chaos set gives +2 charge and damage universally but has less defense against damage and statuses than other 5* armors, but that applies to all weapons.

thats why i said it might be op

Stay a while and Listen!

@Luguiru

What a wall of text in post#5 you have created!

Now can you explain me why OOO have slapped a very high shock weakness on the Heavenly Iron set, a swordsman's gear?

I tried to find my answer from all the books in my study room hidden beneath the Candlestick Keep but no no avail...

And these Mewkats are so messy, leaving their ecto drops near the entrance >:(

Heavenly Iron has a fiend bonus (+1 per piece) and a generic sword bonus (+1 piece). Shock fiends are well known for being obnoxious. Shock is one of the few statuses which significantly cripple the user, topped by the obvious curse; the other statuses are simply less effective in crippling a sword user. It deals a little damage while paralyzing the user for short periods, opening them up to attacks by the opponent at any range so long as projectiles are quick enough, as seen with Devilites if their target stays still long enough. Trojans also prefer to attack when their target is immobile.

For more of my notes on balance see here.

Hmm....

So let me get this straight...

Heavenly Iron set offers +1 generic bonus and +1 family specific bonus.

The trade back is weakness to shock...

And shock fiends are pretty bad...

Sounds a bit....too underpowered vs Snarbolax set....

The only advantage I can think of when wearing heavenly iron armor over snarbolax armor (considering that divine veil is equipped as well) is that Callahan/DBB will do +1 more damage (High damage) than Snarbolax (Medium) to beasts and fiends.

Otherwise Snarbolax armor being neutral to shock can offer better survivability than Heavenly Iron set.

In LD...ppfffft...polaris storm is enough to make those wearing heavenly iron spasm to death.

I am a sad knight :(.

P.S: My study room is so messy....

I not hate the set...
But make equips who deal damage against a specific type of monster a bit useless...
Instead of "Damage Bonus", they could be "Damage Bonus vs Knights"...just for LD.

keep in mind that there are

keep in mind that there are still people that do PvE and the gear was made with PvE in mind.

-1 Nerfing wolver line will not solve the issue.

The problem is not that wolver lines are overpowered, it's that armors meant to defend you better than the offensive armors do not do their job well enough. What is needed is a buff to defensive armors so they actually defend you, or some defense bonus meant to counter the offense bonuses from the wolver, gunslinger, and demo lines.

YES. This is what I've been trying to show people. The penalty for Wolver, Gunner, and Bomber (Not really bomber, they have a hard time with only Elemental defense) is clearly not big enough. Even in PvE.

There simply Is no option, because anything you can do in "Defensive" armor, you can do better, in Optimizing armor.

And that needs to change.

In my opinion, the Wolver line of armor only needs one simple change: An added Fire vulnerability.(Which gets excluded from the Vog Cub set.)

Because since when could a fur coat NOT be flammable?
