Guns: Lowest Damaging Weapon?

I was discussing this earlier in the new recruit guide, and am curious to see what the rest of the forum has to say. I want to see what the general consensus is, so I may present the correct information in the guide.
In general,
1) Are guns higher DPS than bombs...
-Against mobs [think: D26 FSC, first room spawns]?
-Clusters [groups of 3-4 enemies]?
-Solo targets?
2) Are guns better than bombs solo?
3) Can guns [not autogun lines] consistently out-DPS swords? If so, how?
Please note that in general =/= blitz needle, as I consider that an exception and [will] address it as one.
Thanks in advance!

-A Driver can bug into a target to hit 13 times as well. RSS can do some serious damage too if the target is directly on top of the target. Both the best case scenarios for drivers and RSS are rather unlikely, but both have techniques to hit multiple targets multiple times that rely more on skill than luck. The thing is, bombs are almost exclusively AoE, RSS and DR being exceptions. There aren't as many ways to take out mobs as efficiently as bombs were made to, but there are some notable ways. AP/Sent birds, a well placed Driver charge, Catalyzers, Pulsars are a good way to scatter groups or make new ones, and, well, Autoguns.
-That's really just preference
-Absolutely. All it takes is a bit of aim to make a Driver shot hit a single target twice. AP/Sent birds are underrated and can do some massive damage, as well as the normal attack being alright too. Some other stuff too that I can't remember...
Edit: you edited that OP after I started writing this, so I guess I'll edit my post.

Thanks for the replies! I've clarified the question to cater to a more general view of guns, which I'm a little more interested in.

1. In general bombs are for mobs and guns are for single targets or small groups. There are exceptions such as the RSS which is great for single targets and the catalyzers which are decent against mobs.
2. Yes sometimes you dont have time to charge up and you get mobbed to death.
3. Depends on how you count DPS. If you go solely on damage numbers and combos, swords win. If you consider actual DPS in the clockworks I would say it's about equal.

1a. Not really. Bombs are the kings of handling massive mobs. For example, in FSC you have powerhouses like the Nitronome which does normal damage but can easily hit over a dozen targets, the DBB which pretty much does the same thing as Nitro but with lower knockback, the RSS which can be used as a makeshift grenade, the Electron Vortex which sucks a large group into one point, and the Voltaic Tempest which has massive dps in large crowds. Not to say guns are bad, but they're not designed for crowd control.
1b. They're pretty much equal. Alchemer charges and Antigua rapid fire can do just as well as bombs when facing small clusters of enemies.
1c. Yes. Bombs generally rely on area-of-effect attacks to achieve high dps, whereas with a gun you can simply unload the clip into one enemy and kill it in a few seconds.
2. No. When you're soloing, the low health of enemies means that one of bombs' main weaknesses (general lack of adequate single-target dps) doesn't matter much. Also, as a solo bomber you can spam the Nitronome all you want, since every combination of bomber armor and trinkets will give your bombs maximum CTR. However in a team, guns are better since their attacks don't interfere with your teammates, and you can teamwork with guns (for example, combining fire on a target, or using your guns to aggro turrets, or providing suppression fire to allow teammates to get out of sticky situations). The only support bombs are the Vortexes and Vaporizers, neither of which a bomber is going to be using very frequently compared to damage bombs.
3. Potentially yes, but it'd be difficult. In FSC I mainly use a Combuster [UV: CTR low] with Skolver Cap, Vog Cub Coat, Barbarous Thorn Shield, one Elite Sword Focus Module, and one Elite Quick Strike Module, which grants the sword DMG very high, ASI very high, and CTR ultra--I don't see a gun easily outdamaging that thing.

When I play solo as a Shadowsun Gunslinger, I can reliably one-shot a Zombie (if not multiple Zombies) that are standing near a solid object with a Nova Driver Charge Shot. If I don't one shot, then I can kill about 5 Zombies with follow up shots, one or two each.
It really depends on the gun an what you're usin it against.Blitz Needle is one of the best DPS weapons in the game whereas Iron Slug is one of the worst.
