Lava in SK

Hello all. Its been forever since I've posted something in the suggestions forum; so here is my idea. After playing SK for about a year now, I have never seen any lava in any of the fire themed depths, including Lord Vanaduke's lair (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tCBFzRiI2uQ). The closest thing to lava I've ever seen are the flame tiles, which can be put out with water and cannot be really counted as lava.

Including lava in SK, I believe, will add more puzzle elements as well as danger when reaching any of the fire themed depths. This will include things like throwing water in the lava to make platforms, etc, and making segments where the knights fight monsters while the lava sinks up and down, requiring them to go to certain elevated parts of the level. If you got anymore ideas on this topic post it here. I want to here some good feedback and please, keep the rage to a minimum.

like throwing water in the lava to make platforms
Nice idea. But seems.... not logic.

" throwing water in the lava to make platforms"
Is the same as...
throwing water to put out fire, making it walkable

Visually different, but same effect in the end.

I don't think you understand what I mean. I'm talking about having a pool of lava and throwing water into it to make a tile of walkable land that disappears after a while.

I don't think you understand

I don't think you understand how lava actually works. Also this isn't a platformer, there's no clean way to implement it.

Update: properties of lava

Lava doesn't kill you instantly but drains your health at a fast pace and causes fire. If you die in lava your corpse will pop up on the nearest piece of land, so that you friends can heal you without you instantly dying or your friend dying while trying to revive you. Tiles of land formed by water will start to crack when they are about to disappear, and then break apart and melt into the lava. Enemies are not effected by lava, obviously, because they are fire-themed and can take the heat.

@Dukeplatypus

How is there no clean way to implement it? It is really simple just to add a pool of lava and make a bridge, using water to create land, to get across. The lava doesn't rise up after you, it just rises up and down in some segments, like water. So why is it so hard to implement? I'll think hard about that.

Obvoiusly, you need to know

Obvoiusly, you need to know that this is not a platform game. Also we don't need lava. We have a fire-square thing and you clear it with water. If there was lava, it's like you cannot clear it and you need to drop like 100's of water balls.

its just sad that people think were're trying to change SK into different games e.g:
i say houses ,they say 'sims'.
u say larva ,they say platform.
i say two handed wepons ,they say skrim.
meny say new LD games ,they say COD.

what is with thease people?
hope the harshness hasent got to u :P.

Who are these jerks?

They are critisising the idea, "White knight".

And becasue of the horrible suggestions, We have gone to no mercy shoot down on bad threads. How about to try to help this rude nub, only to get flamed?

Just because you're sheltered and haven't understood critisim or negative feedback, doesn't mean you have to flash the "Bully card".

Feel free to ignore their idiocy.

Since respawning if you fall into the lava would be silly, the path could have party buttons a lot more often than normal floors to act as respawn points if you are dead out in the lava and the rest of your party can still continue. Rather than respawn on death you would be respawned on the path by your party. This would promote teamplay because your buddies probably want you to back them up in case they happen to be the one in lava while you are safe on land.

For player set paths there could be chunks of rock you could pick up from spawn pads which behave similarly to statues, but instead of using them to keep a pressure plate down you can set it in lava for a temporary surface to walk on. The chunk would be enveloped by the lava over time. Alternatively there could be a set amount of rocks to use to prevent infinite bridge building, in which case this feature would only be to reach treasure boxes on lone islands in the distant lava.

I THINK....

they just jelly they never figured out that Lava flows inside a planet :3
now THAT seems logical.
and Lugui is onto something. Water against Lava cuases steam (bad idea). Throwing chunks of rock into lava will make more sense. You throw rocks that cover a square and after a while the Lava eats it up. many ideas can sprout from levels with Lava rivers. u got oilers, Strategy, Undead levels, etc. ideas that one can get from this... good job bro
+1 in support of common sense!

"they just jelly they never figured out that Lava flows inside a planet :3"

In a planet that was hollowed out and made into millions of ever-changing stages that interchange themselves :3 ?

Yeah, well I'm sure if someone says 'blocks you can put places to access new areas people would say Minecraft too. And they wouldn't be wrong either.

Platform GAMES. I doubt there's any games that calls itself 'Platform'.

Also, you don't even use the search bar to see whether or not an idea has been discussed to hell already or not. They've come, they've been, and they've gone. Two handed weapons was shout down, we thought, finally about 5 months ago. And if you'd bothered to LOOK, MAYBE you'd understand why. But you don't, and instead complain about how everyone's not being fair to you.

"it is attally a form of cyber bullying so u can report them if u whant..."

"Cyber Bullying" can only be properly defined by someone who actually knows what 'bullying' is already, which is demeaning and insulting someone constantly. 'Cyber' just means over the internet.

I highly doubt 'Cyber bullying' covers someone being an idiot and therefore ridiculed for it. You want it to stop, do yourself and everyone else in your life a favour and start learning from mistakes instead of whining that things don't go your way.

@OP:
This idea I'm neutral to.

@Benightz

I obviously know that this is not a platform game, and having fire tiles is not the same as having lava because it doesn't have the same reaction to water as lava does. Its not possible to have streams of fire or fire-falls, and its not like your going to come across an ocean of lava and use like 30,000 balls of water. There will only be small gaps where you would have to use about 5 or 8 to make enough land tiles to get across, plus the land tiles will last long enough for you and your friends to get across without dying.

Bild des Benutzers Spooky-Nights

@Luguiru

I like your idea, but wouldn't using water instead of rocks be basically the same thing? When the water comes in contact with the lava it will create a rock platform. I'm thinking that it should just be a pot a water, one that you don't throw, but simply drop it in front of you.

Maybe if it were a giant tidal wave of water which would absorb all the heat which would turn the lava into a solid.

Lava has a lot of heat in it which wants to turn objects in contact from solids to liquids by melting or liquids to gases by boiling. Lava is hot. Water may be able to absorb heat, but if you dump water on that lava it has less density so the heat is more powerful and turns it into unhelpful steam very quickly. If you throw a big rock in there the chunk is dense enough to absorb heat to maintain its solid form for a little while before melting into the lava.

lol feel stupid now

That thing about steam gave me a new idea though, water vapor sensors. They would be placed right in front of a tile of lava and could be activated by throwing water into the lava, turning it into steam and activating the sensor. In short they are a lot like normal switches that activate when hit, maybe these ones can be timed? I'll work out the details later.

Do you have something against rocks

I can use the rock idea for my own thread.

Not a big deal.

It would mean the current thread would be linked somewhere, seeing as I would not do so otherwise.

Does anyone not notice

This totally happens in LoZ series. Wind Waker in particular. The first dungeon is fulls of lava and you throw water filled pots on the lava to create rocky platforms to get to around without drowning/melting.

Not a completly bad idea but still, Luguiru's idea seems alot easier to code and whatever.
