This is my blog, where I, Fehzor, post stuff about my life in general, but namely regarding Spiral Knights. Feel free to skip to the end and comment on my latest post, or otherwise read the entire thing. I update as often as I feel like, which may be soon or never.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

So I recently joined 'In The Jelly'... its a bit odd being welcomed every time I log in, but the people there generally seem nice. Yesterday I did a few runs with them, very nice to see how well certain weapons (E.G. Shard bombs) do in the more socially compelling end game again. Specifically, we did the two dailies, which were LoA and then "basic undead" as I think of it. Then we did an FSC, which was nice. I brought my plate shield that I'm heating to become a volcanic plate shield, and then blitz and irontech destroyer, just for kicks. We did alright, owned everything... I died a few times to boredom (I'm bored! I don't wanna dodge the slags!) but we still did fine, like I said. Then this morning I did another run- the normal daily, which was constructs. I used combuster and DA for it, with valiance and nitronome as side weapons. Nitronome makes an exceptionally poor side weapon, and valiance would have been better as sentenza, for the menders. Those were harder to kill. That, and WRH is better at taking out the battle pods. I mean, I still got through it all just fine, but I like to optimize things. Didn't go with anyone, I like to solo from time to time. Its actually a bit easier in my opinion.

So what do you guys think? Did I choose the right guild to join?

Ok, so I just logged on and crafted a shield up (I'm making an ironmight shield) and bought some promos. I'm expecting the price of the new promos to rise quite a bit in a couple of weeks, so it should be a fairly sound investment. There weren't many ITJ members online, but then they play mostly in the evening anyways. I recently sold a prize box that was given to me by the player "Fruits" whom quit a while back. Which was sad. Fruits was nice. So that got me like 500K to re-invest into the market. Lots of moneys into the market. I don't want to grind much. Speaking of which, how many other people play the promos to get money?

@No-Thanks

Don't worry, I'll be sure to post more as time goes on.

@Timewalker

Yeah, I seriously did join ITJ, its crazy, right?

I only get promos if I want them myself. I'm a disgustingly bad example of a merchant~

Also, never realised Fruits quit. Shame.

Today I discovered the magic of the fire cracker. Its barely usable, but is still different in use than the fire haze bomb lines... its also much harder to use, and with much less payoff. I used it in lockdown as a joke at first, but then I went on a jelly king run with it to heat it, and I'm already liking it... I just wish I could get the static flash bomb so that I could have a version to use at FSC. ITJ was fairly active tonight as well, and I had a lovely argument with Addisona over whether normal weapons were useful at all. I of course gave my arguments that I'm sure you, the vast number of fans I have all over the world who write me notes and send me flowers, all know and love from "XXI The World", as well as a few newer ones that I made up on the spot. At some point I did C42 with them as well, and that was nice too. All in all a pretty good session of play. If only I could get a static flash....

Oh, and I failed to get some of the promos I thought that I had. Which was sad. Oh well. I don't need them much anyway.

----------------------------------------------

So then I went onto the forums, and I found a thread making fun of people leaving the game who come on and make a forum post. The thread basically argued, in its own way, that those who are creating 'leaving' threads are selfish, think that people care about them, etc. And its probably right.

I find there to be a certain artistic element to this. Many of the people that make these kinds of posts are probably sad in life. I mean, I've been depressed before. And if they don't have friends IRL to tell, then what right is there to criticize them? Maybe they did have friends in game that they'd like to address. Maybe they just need to make it official. But are they selfish? Diva-like? Perhaps, but why do we make fun of them? We don't gain anything from it and in the face of such a thing, we lose respect as a community if anything. And if they come back and read what has been written, come back and see what people really think of them like that.. Perhaps the world burning really is inevitable?

I can't really see the sense in using static flash and firecracker over the haze bomb lines, especially not in PvE. The blast radius of the haze bombs are just as big and do more damage, after all. Perhaps I'll try my static today.

@Aget

Why would this get moved to gremlin chatter? Its a discussion about the game, about what I've done... entirely bent to be primarily about spiral knights for the most part. Gremlin chatter is described as "Take the knight off and discuss things of a non-Spiral bent. " Although to be fair, gremlin chatter is more "Forum games" than "discussions", so...

@Zeddy

Well, I've already used them, and I just want a change. They are usable over the 5* haze bombs as their attack pattern is different, and works with nitronome and company. Price wise, the 1* status bombs are much much better items. Of course, the 5* haze bombs are obviously stronger in every other way, namely duration.

I played some earlier... crafted a volcanic plate shield. Heated some other stuff. My elemental cloak is at lvl 4.999ish, which is blargh. My ashtail is getting there too. I did jelly king and the dailies and Drdrj was there, and I looked for drake scale stuff and didn't find anything good. I'm wanting to make radiant silvermail soon. I have deadshot, but what if its a poison level? What if I want to use my gran faust to fight a combination of slimes and undead? It would be terrible if I was cursed. Just awful. Still not sure if I want a curse UV or otherwise on the silvermail or something else.

I also did some laundry today. And I watched a movie. And I read a book. Quite the life I've got rofl. Not to worry though, Saturday is the slowest day for me.

Finished heating my elemental cloak and bought a drake scale armor body w/ a shadow high UV. I'm totally going to make radiant silvermail soon, and that'll be awesome. I used my gran faust as well some more, and I think that having curse resistance on yourself lowers it's chances of cursing other things. Not sure though, I'll have to do some more tests; its probably just luck. The radiant silvermail will match the imperial tricorn that I bought off of someone for 2 keys on steam. I probably overpaid, but I don't care too much. I hate dealing with merchants. "Buy low sell high" does not include me buying the item I want "low". I did a few more runs as well, which was nice. Got my drake heated, and worked some more towards the vog. Also heated a bit of the volcanic plate shield. Went on one run through a mission with Drdrj, then went on another run with some immature punk kids. Left halfway, but then its not like I really needed to finish.

@Aureate

I don't get it. This IS my blog?

@Tuhui

But its not fan fiction, its a discussion. I mean, it could be seen as a "creative endeavor", but the list of "Art, Fiction, Events" seems to make me think otherwise. I mean, it'd be nice if the discussion stayed on topic, but even so- its still a discussion.

To answer the question at hand,

What do you guys think, did I join the right guild?

Well being a part of ITJ (main is Vanillateddy) I guess I might be kind of one sided, but in what I've read it seems like you are enjoying yourself in the guild, also I think I've gotten the fact that you love arguing which you could do a lot being most people in our guild have strong opinions on things in the game, like your argument with Addi, I think your genuinely enjoying yourself.

I hope you continue to enjoy yourself in the guild because you sure add some attitude to the guild.

This blog is hilarious. Love it. It's so ho-hum that it's entertaining. I like to read it in a very monotone voice, like fehzor doesn't even want to write it.

@fhezor how is a quitting thread more "selfish" than a 'blog what i did today' thread? Also post #17 in this thread.http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/65947
This is why people post i'm quitting the game threads. What would be selfish is to not do so. It would be selfish to quit without saying goodbye, and illogical to spend 3 weeks (or countless hours) saying bye individually to everyone. On the other hand, it is selfish to go post rage in these threads because YOU (not u fehzor) personally didn't know/like the person.

@Gzilla/Blue_Elephant
I've always liked to think that I could get more from playing games, and more from life in general, than just 'fun'. That isn't to suggested that I'm compensating for my lack of companionship, but that perhaps there is something greater in the world than 'fun'. I have a hard to believing that something so mundane should be treated as anything but a means, and certainly not an end.

@Tuhui
Well, people can just discuss me recapping what I do daily.

@Uniquevariant
A quitting thread isn't any more selfish than this is... but it implies that people care about them, and for the "majority of the game" it is going to be somewhat irrelevant. Also keep in mind how incredibly worthless people are on the internet- if I left, another would take my place, and life would continue. Nothing has to happen, and no will will last forever. It doesn't matter if things are unfair for any individual, and it doesn't matter if any one member leaves. If they really care about those that they meet, they should keep them on steam, or facebook, or whatever they choose to use. Its not like they're being severed from their friends in any real way. I could quit smoking (if I smoked) and I wouldn't have to make an announcement. That they do announce it as such implies things about them that I can empathize with.

Want to talk about your run with Drdrj?

Or how about those punks that you ran with?

If so what did you talk about? Do you ever have some fun and bump monsters around and play hockey with a lumber? I love lumber hockey, but back to topic, did you find something interesting did you realize anything usefull or damaging? Have you gotten comfortable with any of the danger missions?

And lastly would you like to go on a run sometime?

Also, the eternal question: do I necro a thread or create a new thread with roughly the same idea? Either way, you end up getting bitched at for not paying attention. e.e

So today I played a ton quickly and finished my radiant silvermail. I've now got a nice costume that looks like this-

Front Back

In other news, I found a royal jelly shield in a treasure box... right as a friend joined. Guess who got the shield? Yeah. FML. But its ok, someone else joined us later and I killed them and then kicked them while they were down. I know its mean, but it still makes me feel better lmao. I mean, I probably shouldn't, but even so, its better than taking out my rage in other ways. Its just a game, but then, what isn't?

@Aureate/weedalot

The solution is to necro the thread while making a point of the fact that you're necroing it for a reason. For instance- "This thread is several months old, but I re-read it and decided that it was hilarious, especially in hind sight. I'm necroing it so that others will read it."

@Blue-Elephant

Yeah, Drdrj is alright. He is generally polite and nice, although English isn't his first language and even if its completely understandable, I'm still a grammar Nazi....

The punky guys were just teenagers. Nuf said. Although I've always found immature discussions to be distasteful, I've observed several people, many older and presumably more mature than I, to enjoy them a good deal. There is no subject matter to "We'll advertise In The Jelly with Dancinjen's breasts", but people still seem to enjoy such topics. Perhaps I am wrong in discounting such arguments? Perhaps they are healthy in some strange way? And then there is the fact that sometimes it is appropriate, and other times not so. I will never understand. And again, is there more than understanding?

From my guide on 'revolution'-

"I sought to change the game for the better, and I liked the idea of doing all that, and of 'helping to make better suggestions' etc. I suppose that's why I played the game in the first place. I liked the way that the developers restricted the players, hurt them, and I wanted to see what they could get away with. I wanted to see just how far they could do, and what the players were willing to do to get back at them, and of course, the overall question- how will it all end? How will the developers kill their game? Will the playerbase hang onto it? And of course, I'm still waiting on that one."

@Orbwanter

I have considered it, actually. To be honest, I think that that's kind of cheating. I would go so far as to suggest that the developers did not intend for things like that to happen, as they kind of defeat the purpose of having certain features, like 'curse'. Maybe someday though.

@Sodaaddict

Its not a story, its an intricate discussion, should people that aren't me decide to chime in and debate about the ideas created inside what I write (E.G. Not whether this thread belongs inside the treasure vault... I will end it if it goes there. Treasure vault is blegh).

@Aureate, Generally, I'd say generally go with the necro, but only if the topic is still relevant and you have a considerable amount of information to add. Creating a new topic with exactly the same information/even less information or necroing a thread to say "+1" or "lol" is a no no.

Also it is always good when a guild greets people as they log on. It serves to make their players actually feel welcome.

@Fehzor, Good luck trying to read the extra green officer chat with that ascendency.
@Orbwanter, I'm pretty sure if you have more than one of the same weapon, the game won't let you switch between them and essentially acts as if you only have one. I'm not sure how curse/UVs would change that, but that's what I've been going on so far.

Logged on. Ran GitM. Used stagger storm w/ combuster. Also used DA w/ elemental shard bomb. Shard bomb was alright, but still didn't do too much. Stagger storm was downright funny, and I killed a couple of mechas with it. Messed around in Haven. Debated on adding the regal parrying blade to my armor set. Didn't add the regal parrying blade. Sat by Njthug. We looked boss in our pirate hats. Except he was fluorescent purple and leaking sprinkles... which made very little sense. Saw a couple people with the "mix all the most recent promos = cool" thing going on. Mostly things like gold laurel+pirate hat w/ surge armor. Things like that. Time of my life.

Exactly, I've got a whole network of people to help me via the officer chat... And orbwanter is right, it would work. If you've got more than one weapon, and they've got differing UVs, then they act as seperate weapons.

@Sir-Didymus

I don't like the responsibility of running a guild, but I do like the power over opinion that comes with it... life has no made no obligation to give you lemons and in all likely hood will not do so, but you're still going to be making lemonade.

I'm crafting all the armors+shields.... so I might as well start by crafting the ones that perfectly match my pirate hat. I'm also crafting vog at the moment, but nice looking things take priority to useful things for two reasons- 1. Because I shouldn't be biased by how "good" people claim gear to be. It is my opinion that cultural bias can only harm the formation of opinions. 2. Because if there isn't any preference towards "good" armor, as all armors are created equally, then the only bias towards armor is how nice it looks with my pirate hat.

@Canine-Vladmir

I might have noticed you, but I think I was trying to join someone for a run or something. And I'm fairly poor in game, I've yet to even get a complete hold on the economy and a copy (or two+ in the case of trinkets and faust) of every item.

@Canine-Vladmir and Gzilla

I have certain opinions of certain guilds, and will most likely be switching guilds frequently at some point in time. I'm far more interested in examining the social and economic aspects of the game than in "having fun", although video games beat out certain contemporary studies in that I can both learn from them AND have fun... not to mention that as I said, avoiding cultural bias and forming my own internal opinions should hold some priority. That isn't strictly true, but then, why choose between one or the other? I often do listen to lectures while playing through clockwork levels. I listened to an audiobook of 'The Art of War' while playing through the game at one point. Evilnut even joined me... of course, she didn't know that I was listening into it, but then we don't usually end up talking anyways due to the stress of typing while fighting.

@Tuhui

Yet being an officer will limit your ability to switch guilds without being offensive to ITJ, and still provides certain obligations for yourself. If ITJ decides to tax it's players to support a guild hall should it come to that, you will be far more easily convinced to pay up than I.

Aside from what i already do normally i have no responsibility in ITJ. If i left ITJ nothing would happen, people would ask me why if they did not know why but nothing would change. I foresee no reasons for me leaving but if they did come i would give a heads up and then leave once i thought enough people knew about it. If i have a reason to leave i will leave on a moments notice, I enjoy the guild and this would never happen, but i would do it in a second. Except for being a player in the guild i offer nothing for it. Some things here and there but nothing substantial, if i left nothing would change in the guild. I'm an officer because I'm a good smart player(which i doubt at times), not because i add something substantial to the guild. My thoughts might be respected but not necessary to the guild.

I love ITJ nothing here should be taken that seriously, I do know that my thoughts to count but i know this guild does not need me to function.

Played some more... we did the daily missions. I was going to craft something, but I wanted to craft ashtail>vog armor. But alas, I had to do FSC, which ate up all of my mist energy. Its kind of sad that the only way to efficiently heat gear is through FSC. I went with Drdrj and ThisNameIsTaken whom both brought blitz needles. So we won. Easily. I used my "good" weapons for FSC, being blitz needle+electron vortex. This made things go incredibly quickly... which is good, because I was tired going into it.

@Tuhui

You've still got to appeal to the guild leaders that are above you (you cannot do irrational things pat an extent), and you're still more likely to stay than to just up and leave them. Furthermore, you've got power- forcing responsibility, even if as "a good citizen" of ITJ. Even if you've got no direct obligations, there are many indirect and subtle factors acting on you.

@Gzilla

Ah yes, I've got a whole agenda.... No, I don't plan anything. Who knows, I might not even leave ITJ.

I also find it irritating that FSC is so far beyond other easily accessed levels for heating gear. I have also always been of the opinion that levels should be a choice between crowns and heat, example: Jelly Palace gives more heat and IMF gives more crowns, but this is your soapbox.

In my mind nothing is expected of a recruit, anything higher and I would feel obligated to contribute in some way. Currently I could possibly be one of the worst guild members ever.

I just can’t accept the tricorn as a proper pirate hat. I like the look of it, but I want a proper pirate hat in this game!
