Well it's certainly not free

Well it's certainly not free in the truest sense of the word, but free in the fiscal sense, which is the problematic one for crafting most weapons and gear. 13 runs of FSC to get a FoV? That's about 100k cr, which will only buy you enough CE for a 5* upgrade, not including recipe costs and crafting the 4*. Time is the only currency involved in this and, as an MMO worthy of the word "grind", time is an infinite resource to players, at least in the eyes of the developers. Even with a "time=money" comparison, it's still cheaper (and thusly faster) to farm FoV than it is to pay for any other weapon, which keeps it very firmly in the "free stuff" category, which is automatic debuff points.

Like I've already said though, situationally I do agree that as "the endgame PvE weapon" it's not as impressive as it could be, free or otherwise, and that planning ahead to use this would probably be more counterproductive than not, and there are better weapons you could use instead given half the chance. I just don't feel that it can be compared to the Winmillion or whatever; it's certainly not a "bad" sword and certainly not "not worth it at all", I just wouldnae recommend farming tokens just for a FoV. But if you've done FSC loads of times and have the tokens, then FoV is a nice wee treat for you. Maybe that's not how it was intended (or even is the best way) to go down, but that's how I see it.

Eh? If you get OCH, you can just get a friend to drag you through T3 and get the WRH for free. That sword could certainly replace all other ele swords--why aren't you complaining about it?

Getting OCH is not free. The weapon has been paid for before you even got it.

As for FoV, it's already an excellent weapon. I imagine I could solo FSC using just that and a Graviton and it wouldn't even be hard. Perhaps I'll do that, someday.

sorry this took so long

Sorry, I've been really busy with school lately... but here I am, getting back to your post.

I'm referring here to the way that the OCH pack combines both a bomb and a sword, which promotes branching out and trying new things. The reason OCH is fine is because it costs monies. Vana doesn't.

The last boss isn't very hard in a game where players are in a co-op where friends can help them, and the boss is easy. The aid of other players makes this inconvenience much less significant. My friend Balderus has a bunch of alts, the one of which that is in ITJ (bladderrust) is armed with a FoV, jelly armor, a 4* poison needle, and a swiftie. Sure, he'd already played the game before, but when you're running with other experienced players it makes your own minor weapon choices (as far as damage goes, mechanics are still important) a minor inconvenience. Yes, he's a pretty good player, but I wouldn't exactly describe him as hardcore. I don't think I'd have much trouble with this (and no I'm not doing it to prove this point), and I personally consider myself a mediocre player. I didn't really consider FSC an epic struggle, though with my internet and a certain party member who will not be named (and this isn't offensive to them, they know they're bad at SK even if they're a wonderful person) who is truly bad at SK (and it's not their fault), it was a bit hard. This was pre-zombie nerf and pre-brandish buff. However, we were slaying vana with polaris. Took forever. We had ONE person in the guild who knew how to play FSC. He helped us. It was easy. Imagine what that's like in a party that has three experienced players. It's easy. I've done it.

Next up, game progression. If the sword is indeed a free handout then it accelerates that player's progression through the game (higher gear -> harder, different content). The game is set up to progress at a rate that will be stale to the point that will not cause players to quit but rather dump real money into it. Giving players everything from the start makes them progress without paying or experiencing lower-down content. As for screwing with the economy, this means that less crowns will be spent on recipes and less CE and mats on crafting.

Meh... fine I'll see if I can find a more accurate test to do .-.
Man so strict T.T

Also, you can't compare apples to oranges. They are both fruits, but they have different flavors.
FoV and Brandishes and Similar Swords have same attack pattern, so they can be compared.
Flourishes and Brandishes have different attack pattern...

I will edit this post later.

EDIT: New results show about half-3/4 block extra block range on final hit of FoV, need to do tests on 2nd hit somehow.

EDIT:
Newer results show:
Final Hit: approximately 3/4 block extra distance
2nd Hit: approximately 1/2 block extra distance
1st Hit: negligible distance, if any

EDIT:
Meh, I can safely conclude at least 0 extra distance on 1st hit, half block on 2nd and 3rd hit. (2nd hit tests had easier accuracy tests)

Of course, I could be wrong and it could be 2/3 distance or 1/3 distance, but I got as close as I could in as short as possible of a time.

Places of error: bot moving side to side causes possible slight dodging, direction is not completely "East" due to game not recognizing small angle changes by mouse, position error due to lack of ground markings for the "3rd strike" tests.

*If you really want me to type up my tests, I might do it .-. it's a pain

FOV

Has it not already been said this is buy and large a TROPHY weapon?

FOV's actually a pretty decent weapon compared to some of those out there... you know, WHB, DVS, 5* catalyzers, Volc Pepperbox (to it's cousins), Heavy Deconstructor, Graviton Vortex (to it's cousin), ANY SHARDS.

So... your complaint is........... what? Oh, you get a weapon for 40 vana tokens, you know that thing that close to everyone plays at least once a day at the endgame or something for some CE, and then you're gonna turn around and complain that it's too whimpy for you? Tell you what, lug around some bomber gear awhile and then get back to me. You expect the weapon to be the ultimate thing ever? Same boss gives you an armor line that's worthless (compared to pretty much any other 5* set out there) and a shield that one uses only for it's sheer KB value...

And you're gonna complain about a free weapon being BORDERLINE sub-par? Use it like a levi blade, use it the way it was meant to be used.. so long as that fire procs? You're doing just fine.
