I just don't understand. No-one asked for it. Everyone was happy with the old UI.
The new UI sucks. It is horrible.
The game is nearly unplayable for me now (then again, I wasn't playing much before the update, but that's not the point).
It's uglier. You can't see what's going on when you play Lockdown.
WHY MAKE A NEW UI? Why not work on actual playable content?
I wish they'd make a option of using the old UI, but considering OOO's tendencies to not care I doubt it.
90% of people I've talked to say 'it sucks', or 'new UI is bs'.
Was there any reason to make a new UI?
I'm part of the 10% of the people who like it more. But since we are both making up percentages I'll just say I'm part of the 120% that likes this one to the old one. Cheers.
I believe they were testing some features and just got carried away and decided to do a full overhaul.
I hate the shield bar for example. But it's new and putting it on the old UI would have looked 10x sillier.
it freshens up things and USUALLY makes things more convenient
unfortunately, nobody seems to have cared about lower resolutions at all. i couldnt even check my mails last time, because the ld screen was in the way..
not that ive asked for a new UI, but i was really really looking forward to it, when i first heard about it
but whatever ill buy better pc some day in any case xD
They could just make the UI customizable so we can move crap around ourselves
that and give option to switch to classic UI
That sounds nice as well (I don't absolutely hate the new UI, but as one of my friends said 'it doesn't hold a candle to the old one.').
I might even keep a few aspects of it (like re-entering the ready-room). but it'd be too much work (probably a whole days worth!) for triple O.
@No-Thanks Well, at least it's nice for some people. But for me, nearly everything takes much longer to do.
They made new UI in the hidden purpose to hide energy meter to make game unlinear. True story.
The new one and the old one are equally good. Why do I write this? I wrote it simply because the old UI actually made us cautious of our shield health. The new UI does the same thing but it gives us a health bar for the shield to help us keep track more clearly (better understanding as to when the shield breaks). As for which one I would choose, I would say neither. Remove everything on the UI to make the game more strategic
i tried to find the thread on "Kongregate" about this UI suggestion but i wasnt able to find it on their forum. someone can confirm this was because kongregate users? so we can read their "suggestion" and try to figure "WHy they need" this UI?
(actually i would believe their suggested this since one of them wants ME/CE system removal which of course isnt the first time that someone have done this)
it was/ maybe still is, a popular suggestion with 500+ votes and its had keywords, "AI health-bar" and "percent"
EDIT: nevermind. Found one.
"10/5 all the way for the game! Need to put health bars on the enemys so we can see how close they are to being dead." - Trealis [1796 upvotes]
and look at what this yahoo posted
"You guys have awesome comments, but im not sure that the spiral knight company will ever read this. You should go to their forums then they might listen to you" - imthebest [500 upvote]
But people have asked for health bars on enemies for a long time even on this forums, the difference is that it usually gets turned down because the game was already easy. Just asking for health bars isn't the same as: "change this practical UI into something that looks out of a cheap flash game and makes the game slower".
If "desired removal of the energy system" from a single individual is enough of a basis to shun an entire userbase from a particular site then I can see why they wouldn't want to bother with our forum. I also find it extremely difficult to believe that a very specific group of people was the sole cause of this UI overhaul, rather, it feels like you guys are grasping at straws to find a way to justify an update that you disagree with only so that you can push the blame on someone to make yourself feel better. If you did a little research you would find that it's been on our own very forums for a very long time now, or do you still insist on "blaming Kongregate" just for the hell of it?
Yes, the UI is bad compared to the old one. We have already established this and hammered on about it for nearly two weeks now.
its a joke.
no need to go into Judge Judy mode.
Probably, but they won't tell us and the last thread like this one got locked.
"Why not work on actual playable content?"
+1
just wanted to +1 this
v < - not asking for change, just a note for future content update so i can enjoy SOME of it too! dont rage me folks
FOR DEVELOPERS
----------------------
Shadow Lair too expensive
Crimson Hammer too hard alone plus too many shield monsters on top of that(was very lucky my friend happened to sell DLC to me) - have only had 2 runs with partys helping me several CE revives used :/
Finished all missions, nomore reward to get
Guild..Hall..everything..tax.............................................i wouldnt be playing f2p if i didnt despise this kind of subscription payment
and this is the story of the giant gap after FSC, that hasnt been filled for me with anything but LD. i know battle pets will be intriguing, but what about t3t4 boss token farming for the future. i bet some players excluding me have accumulated 100s of alm seals by now
that is all and i hope its useful information
Yes, because it clearly looks like a joke from a bystander's perspective. Heh, no it doesn't.
Next time you feel like joking, try coming up with something that isn't as tasteless.
I feel the same way, but I'm not leaving unless months pass by and it's not a toggleable option after that. How the *BEEP* can they do this? Okay, Spold... calm down, but I don't get it. The previous user interface didn't get any laments at all, and we didn't ask for this one, but they made something that gives us problems. What the.... what the? *Slaps self* HOW THE!?
-We had no problem with old user interface.
-Three Rings randomly makes a new unasked for user interface.
-We have problems with that.
-The solution is to make the new user interface toggleable so the .1% that actually like it can still use it.
I miss when i could look at the bottom right corner and see how much mist and crystal energy i had.
The 'Party Finder', 'Missions', and 'Coliseum' buttons. You all may have gotten used to them in the old UI, but that doesn't mean that they were anything but ugly placeholders. Not sure why the community never really complained about them given its extreme reaction to the new interface.
Also pets. The various skills introduced and their cooldowns will have to be displayed somewhere.
I believe that the weapon wheel( maybe not as implemented, but the general idea of it) and the targeted monster summary, while not strictly necessary, are excellent features for newer players.
That's enough added stuff to warrant a redesign. Not that there was any need, imo, to change things as drastically as they did. But there was need for change. Which is the topic of this thread. Supposedly...
The party finder, missions, and Coliseum buttons, while they did seem haphazardly stuck-on, only showed up in haven and were minor inconveniences compared to not being able to see your HP and character at the same time. Have a look at This If you haven't already, it incorporates all the improvements of the new UI into the old one without seeming too cluttered or obtrusive. And, more importantly, you don't have to move your eyes around the screen to see critical information.
Battle Sprites are coming
Spiral Knights design is 2009-2010-ish, time to bring it up to date.
New mobs are coming
New UI feature were coming (Enemy HP, weaknesses)
They decided to give a breath of fresh air in the game
People got hurt because they are old and don't like change
I don't mind a UI update that doesn't change the way I play, mostly because I'm a PvE guy
And only 2-3 people I know hate the new UI
that's 95% who likes the new UI
But 60% of random generated statistic is false
Face it... Most of us stopped complaining because we saw it was hopeless to keep trying to help OOO.
@ Artistbma
I think they are waiting and compiling the feedback before making any announcement.
If OOO would come up to say nothing, people would only get fired up. It's better they stay far away from this and listen to their fanbase (as they always do)
I doubt they will let us down. People are just impatient. It has been 2 weeks only... Even Diablo III had trouble adjusting in only 2 weeks with all their staffs...
@Shamanala:
Comparing Diablo III to SK is a wrong, very wrong thing...
The short answer is no.
The long answer is nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo.
- "Battle Sprites are coming" -Shamanala (all quotes beneath too.)
So therefore the entire UI was remade from scratch? And implemented in a hurry way before the battle sprites are released?
- "Spiral Knights design is 2009-2010-ish, time to bring it up to date."
As I've said before: It looks like some strange pop-up ad from 2002 now.
And as others have said: It looks like some kid went crazy with gradients in Photoshop.
- "New mobs are coming"
What does that even have to do with the UI? You don't think we'd be able to fight the new mobs with the old UI?
- "New UI feature were coming (Enemy HP, weaknesses)"
And so they trashed the entire old UI with no way to change it back.
- "They decided to give a breath of fresh air in the game"
Too bad that they seem to have forgotten to brush their teeth.
- "People got hurt because they are old and don't like change"
Actually, people seem pretty acceptive of the new features such as the healthbars, which actually has been suggested earlier (unlike a certain complete UI rework). If they were to keep the old look and just add the healthbars and other nifty features (that were togglable) with that, I'm pretty certain people would be happy.
- "I don't mind a UI update that doesn't change the way I play, mostly because I'm a PvE guy"
You do realize that you're practically dismissing the thoughts and opinions of every PvP player with that sentence, right?
- "And only 2-3 people I know hate the new UI"
Oh... I'm sorry... You must have missed the 12 page, 599 comments long thread (at the time of writing) where many, many players asked for a rework or undo.
- "I think they are waiting and compiling the feedback before making any announcement. If OOO would come up to say nothing, people would only get fired up. It's better they stay far away from this and listen to their fanbase (as they always do) I doubt they will let us down. People are just impatient. It has been 2 weeks only... Even Diablo III had trouble adjusting in only 2 weeks with all their staffs..."
You know. It shouldn't take two weeks (plus) to write a short/long message about whether or not they're at least considering a rework/undo or not. They've already released two more updates after the UI change, which, in my eyes, is more like saying: "Yeaaaah... Nooo, we're not going to discuss this with you guys... Moving on."
"Spiral Knights design is 2009-2010-ish, time to bring it up to date."
Since when does making it "shiny" make it up to date? Maybe up-to-date with 2011, but look around the internet. Styles all around are changing to be flat instead of beveled and "shiny", like YouTube and even Win8. Not that a style needs to be "current", anyway... SK's style was unique, and the new one seems like an attempt to feel more like other MMOs. Especially with the new portrait/health bar setup, it looks more like an MMORPG. Which it's not. SK is an MMOARPG. And ARPGs have the health bar in the middle bottom for a reason.
"New mobs are coming"
So what? New mobs doesn't mean new UI.
"New UI feature were coming (Enemy HP, weaknesses)"
They put those in a module, and they put them in a place where there was nothing in the old UI anyway.
"People got hurt because they are old and don't like change"
"I don't mind a UI update that doesn't change the way I play, mostly because I'm a PvE guy"
/facepalm
Same thing I've been saying for two weeks now. change is good. bad change is bad. I can accept the style, I like the new button placement, but I can't accept changes that make the game mechanically harder and less efficient. they might not affect your play, but it does affect mine and a lot of others.
This really isn't a problem with the UI anymore, even though it hasn't been fixed. The real problem is that OOO doesn't have anything to say about it.
I asked this same question and there was no response from the higher ups. I LOVED the old UI. It's what makes and made SK very classy. The new UI is just not as good as the old one. I can't even tell if someone is dead or not.
lol
I'm giving you guys an opinion from a PvE POV
you can bash it or you can learn from it
They obviously took in feedback from PvE guys and not PvP guys...
I love primary reaction when you could actually go deeper and wonder about why did OOO put this update.
PvE, new mobs, battle sprites.
The UI is screaming this but I'm the only one who likes it because I hate LD
FYI I know the UI is hated, I just pointed out that in my guild and in my current friends (who are PvE mostly) only 2-3 are complaining about the UI
oh well...
Now you know
Edit:
This really isn't a problem with the UI anymore, even though it hasn't been fixed. The real problem is that OOO doesn't have anything to say about it.
That's the best line ever...
As a salesman I hear this everyday and I cannot do anything about it but when not working I can laugh and laugh about it. "my problem hasn't been fixed and it's your fault!"
They might have made the UI update because they wanted a fresh start, they might have made it that way to make room for sprite things. That's all fine, but you have to wonder:
-Why did they do it now, instead of waiting until they needed it?
-Why did they move things to places that make them harder to use?
-Why did they not tell us why it was changed?
-Why have they not responded to our feedback?
-Why would they take feedback from only certain parts of the community?
-Did you see them take feedback anywhere?
The new UI is "hated" for a reason; it's not as good as the old one in a number of ways. Yes, it's new so of course there will be kinks, but there are more bugs and problems than improvements.
"'my problem hasn't been fixed and it's your fault!'"
It is OOO's fault, because they designed the UI without taking everyone into consideration, or just without proper testing. My problem is their fault if they caused it and they are the only ones who can change it.
P.S, laughing at someone's argument doesn't make a good case for yourself. It makes you sound like you know you're wrong and trying to laugh it off.
Well, I'm thinking they're trying to copy the the competition...maybe...
I'm talking about the HP bar placement. Elsword almost plays like Street Fighters, and you're almost always focused on the middle of the screen, not the top left.
@ Kliplik
The problem doesn't concern me. People bash me because I give my opinion, as a PvE guy
I still don't know what's the point of having a test server when the content gets on the main server 2-3 days later
I mean what's the point of testing really?
I think what happened is people wanted to get a glance at the UI and OOO just implemented in the game to see how it goes and it backfired.
Because none of the bug told in the test feedback were fixed when the UI went live.
Don't get me wrong, I'm pissed like you are (for different reason than you, mostly because it was my first time on the test server and all that **** I tested for 2 days got dumped on the main server w/o proper testing)
And yes now I can laugh at the situation because I'm not concerned at all.
The only words you might heard from OOO is a polite "sorry" but not a direct and formal one.
Edit: There are so many things wrong with what OOO did, the UI is one thing, but proper testing? in real life scenario? for a period of time? I mean 2 days is literally nothing, people know they have 2 days so they (I) grinded the first day, saw most of the content, left a feedback and went to work/school.
Go look at the testing feedback section right after the test server went live.
It just boggles my mind -_-
I respected much OOO before that random untested UI update
Edit2: @Dragneel
I compare to much SK to D3 to say it's a bad comparison. It's a good one actually...
Look at how much D3 has come since the fans started to put their nose in... next patch = Cain id all! o.O
@Autofire: The health bars in most fighting games go towards the middle as your health gets lower, so you notice it more as it becomes more important. Plus, the characters are as tall as the screen.
@Sham
If your opinion on something is "I don't care", you're probably gonna get some hate. Just saying.
/sigh
OOO y u no say anything? Even saying that you'll say something is fine. Or do you not respect us enough to give us a statement?
@Shamanala:
"I am gonna say what I want, because that's my opinion, and I am gonna ignore your counter-arguments because I don't care."
That's your way of arguing currently.
Not because you are PvE and "You Don't Care!" it means the situation will stay like this. You are just being a complete ignorant, be it either in this thread, or the European Server thread, and just shouting out your opinion, while engulfing your brain into a shell, and not hearing what we are saying.
Stop it, it's annoying.
Klipik has made a good summary of questions that need to be answered. I, for one, want an official reason for the UI change at the very least. I can't see much reason for it unless they were releasing the Battle Sprites soon after (Which obviously didn't happen).
You are just being a complete ignorant, be it either in this thread, or the European Server thread, and just shouting out your opinion, while engulfing your brain into a shell, and not hearing what we are saying.
To be fair, I try to explain my POV and get soon bashed just because I added some extra sarcasm
And only 2-3 people I know hate the new UI
that's 95% who likes the new UI
But 60% of random generated statistic is false
Just after that you barged into me... I thought people could get 2nd degree sarcasm -_-
Then..
Oh... I'm sorry... You must have missed the 12 page, 599 comments long thread (at the time of writing) where many, many players asked for a rework or undo.
Which I was part of....
Same thing I've been saying for two weeks now. change is good. bad change is bad. I can accept the style, I like the new button placement, but I can't accept changes that make the game mechanically harder and less efficient. they might not affect your play, but it does affect mine and a lot of others.
Briefing: "I am butthurt! That it doesn't affect you and you say it like that"
Well yeah sorry but that's reality... the UI was mostly for PvE stuff and PvP was left unattended... AS ALWAYS...
And yes I still find it hilarious that people haven't figure that out yet and want an official answer from OOO.
I've been in this situation before where the devs did something illogical and they wouldn't respond.
Maybe a CM will come up and say an informal, indirect sorry but that's about it. You won't get your "let me bent over so you can scream in my ****" like you all wishes... -_-
God this forum is becoming more and more useless as days goes by... -_-
Edit: @Gravelord at least 100 people made a good Thread on why OOO should answer, redo, rethink the UI...
And it makes me sad to think that when something gets implemented. The imediate reaction is "THIS **** MY LD!!!"
Anyway this game will die soon if they do nothing so at this point I'm in stand-by mode. A big portion of the community left and don't want to come back because "MY LD IS **** I CAN'T PLAY SK ANYMORE"
It's really sad to think that this game core rely only on an unbalanced PvP, rather than an amazing in-game core system that is the Clockwork -_-
It really makes me sad
A big portion of the community left and don't want to come back because "MY LD IS **** I CAN'T PLAY SK ANYMORE"
They "can't" play LD because of the new UI and so they've left?
How is that a valid excuse for them to give up on the game? What did they do before LD?
I thought the game was about the Clockworks and not some shoddy distraction (this is coming from a PvE'er). Or have I missed something important in some forum section that I don't actually go to?
Ld is what most players due as the CW and other content is boring.
@Gravelord: Read
@Sham: You don't give counter-arguments to our counter-arguments, so you're left looking like you don't have a response so you came up with new things to be right about. Not saying that's the case, but that's what it looks like sometimes.
...please don't hate me now.
OK, I underestimated PvP in general by a pretty sizable amount. I guess Prophet-Of-Lies' post is the (very) short version to Falconn's wall of text.
"Which I was part of...." -Shamanala
That's the point.
"God this forum is becoming more and more useless as days goes by... -_-" -Shamanala
Of course, with every post you make, this forum gets undoubtedly worse.
And can you please stop writing like this.
It looks ridiculous.
And while you're at it.
Please learn how to quote people properly.
It's not that hard...
I am heavily PvE orientated. In fact, I've never, that is NEVER played PvP.
And relating to the title of this thread, there wasn't a need to change the UI. Just look at Zopyros-il's UI reworks; they fit with the Old UI perfectly, and even account for any new features they have added/ will add (sprites).
The new UI, for one, moved health out of your area of focus when playing. If you just started with the new UI, you will die a lot more easily and even now, after playing using the new UI for a whil, I get zombie swiped (yes, hit by those ridiculously slow monsters) when I am trying to see my own health.
The weapon wheel is useless. I even tried to use it as it was designed. With 3 weapon slots, it gives NO help with working out/ seeing which weapon is next because it is buggy and even if it weren't, it still gives a massive blind spot (I feel for you gunslingers)
Your screen shakes when you're hit, so not only is it hard to see when you're attacked by greavers and a cloud of smoke appears around you, plus the health bars flying off your player, now your screen shakes too. Lovely.
The tabs weren't needed. The layout before of the mission objective was a lot better. It took up less room (being a plus in a circle) than an arrow on the side of your screen.
Before, eveything was was arranged neatly at the top of your screen. Now we have it down the side, along the bottom AND
on the top of your screen. All of which doesnt scale with resolution, and one feature (being a portrait of yourself), is only there for those who like to see themselves. I don't have a costume, and I can see my character standing in the middle of the screen when I play. Why would I want to see him twice.
And, lastly, the shield bar is useless. It hides your health when in use (ridiculous, since we can only see our health in the top left now) and we already had an indicator of shield health.
I have valid reasons against the UI update from PvE.
Shamanala just spoke horse raddish to be honest.
Between PvE and PvP, I can still play Lockdown. I haven't really gotten used to the UI in Lockdown, but it's more like I don't really -need- a UI in Lockdown, and since Lockdown is already terrible because of the playerbase it's not a huge deal to make it more terrible with the UI changes.
PvE, on the other hand, is no longer playable for me. The vial slots and the HP bar are frustrating to look at and work with and doing runs now stresses me out enough to give me headaches.
And just so we're clear, Let me explain a few things.
It's still the same game we all know and love, only with a slightly different art design for the HUD. No need to be like "UGM THE NEW UI SUCKZ BAWLZ I CANT PLAY LD IM GONNA QUIT!". It isn't the end of the world (Not until another hundred or so years /laugh)
Let me tell you the pros and cons:
Pros:----------------------------------------------------------------------
Radar is more useful--
New vial designs
Monster health
Zoom in Haven
Glossy new window designs
And a few others I can't name/remember.
Devilites got nerfed? OH MY VOG THIS IS THE HAPPIEST DAY OF MY LIFE!
Neutral:--------------------------------------------------------------------
Weapon wheel
See rank names (Like that's needed)
Cons:-----------------------------------------------------------------------
No name colors in Haven unless you're friends or in the CW's.
Can't move vials to empty slots so you can assort them.
Can't drop vitapods. I want to support my team if I'm going to be logging off for the day.
What we can do right now:----------------------------------------------
Go to Options > Game uncheck "Show ranks". I don't know exactly where it is but it's in there somewhere.
Get used to it.
As a 2 year veteran I must say I was getting quite bored of grinding the FSC all the times for crowns. I wanted a new update to get me back in the mood again and lo and behold, it did.
There may be more reasons on the list that I can't name/can't remember/too lazy to remember right now, but I'm sure some of you see in this what I see.
I bid you all good day.
Health bar being on the bottom was the worst thing ever in the old UI. I don't recall too many times when I was fighting enemies that were below my knight so when I was looking at the group of monsters above my knight I'd have to glance totally at the bottom of the screen to see my health state. Now I can fight with enemies and see my health without refocusing my eyes on it to see. The white contrasts with the red so much that it will basically pierce your eyes. If you can't see that like that then I can't really help you with your poor eyesight.
I heard that other sites that were linking people to Spiral Knights (e.g Kongregate, Armor games) fan bases asked for a new UI. But then again, it's just a rumor. Other then that, I thought OOO was reconfiguring everything for battle sprites?
