Spiral Knights for Beginners: Video Tutorials

This is a series of video tutorials about various techniques in Spiral Knights aimed at beginners, especially those new to MMORPGs in general.

Most recent video, and probably of the three so far the most useful:

#3 Shielding and Charging
How can a shield be used offensively? How can handling a sword be like handling a bomb? Shield bouncing, shield canceling, sword canceling, and more!

Previously in this series:

#1 Room of Ice Blocks
Dungeon tactics: dealing with rooms filled with monsters and ice blocks and not dying. Applicable to all Tiers, although this video was shot in Tier 1.

#2 Kiting and Bombs
What is kiting? And why do people always say to kite with bombs? These are the answers.

Future ideas for videos:

- Dealing with gun puppies
- Crafting and Trading how-to
- Effective charged attacks (basic, Calibur spin, Troika smash, Flourish thrust, Brandish explode)
- Not dying on the first floor of the Royal Jelly Palace
- Not dying on the second floor of the Royal Jelly Palace

I actually can't shoot guns worth a patootie yet, so any videos about gunslinging are on hold, possibly indefinitely. And, um, I've yet to survive the Jelly King. Just so you know.

Previous "is this a good idea?" thread.

:)

I enjoyed the videos, being a new player I got helpful bits of info that I'll be sure to keep in mind next time I'm running around (not) getting killed.
Looking forward to any additional videos you might make, good luck. :)

The sword that hands out fire

The sword that hands out fire on a charged attack is Fireburst Brandish, and is the 3* upgrade of Brandish. Brandish has a very nice alchemical line.

Shield Canceling

That video on shield canceling really helped me. I'd gotten into the habit of shield canceling by reflex so that I'd hit the shield button a moment after my attack landed. After watching that video I realized I could adjust my timing so that I can hit the shield a moment after I start my swing. It seems like a minuscule thing but it's made the difference between getting hit and getting the shield up in time against certain t3 mobs. Thanks for prompting me to consciously think about a reflexive action early enough to correct it easily.

Also, good job on the blog. It was one of the first things that I read when I was looking into SK.

You might add to the future

You might add to the future videos idea some more development on shield cancelling: I think your latest video only covers it w.r.t. charge attacks, whereas the cancelling of the last swing of a combo is a really useful feature that might need demonstrating/teaching (slash-slash-shield for a 3-swing sword since the last swing is the one that involves recovery time, even for non-charged attacks)

Anyway, great videos I must say !!! :)

Thanks, folks! I'm glad these videos are handy even for those who've gone on to Tier 3! :D

Tipiak, that's an excellent idea. Next video will be about combo attacks, and I'll incorporate that useful aspect of shield canceling as well!

Bumping for the influx of new

Bumping for the influx of new players (at least, I think there's an influx). The next video, on combo attacks, is scheduled two weeks out due to a partial hiatus from the game.

(I'll note that even if I stop playing the game for myself in the future, I still want to finish out my video series to a certain point. Helping those new to the game mechanics is a totally separate issue from micro-payment structures and the like.)

Being a brand new bomber, and

Being a brand new bomber, and also only about a week into spiral knights to begin with, your video on kiting is incredibly helpful. Thanks a lot!
