Since Spiral Knights is kinda focused on medival warfare of some sorts (Swords, Shields) Why not add Lances, or Spears to the mix? Yes, I know the flourish, takes place for that, but it seems like a fencing weapon because its not a large size as, a Lance, or Spear would be. the attacks would be fairly simliar to the flourish, but it has a longer attack range, and slower, and more powerful. Now, the charge attack would be simliar to how the avenger, DA, or the faust creates a projectile, The weapon, will take a big jab in the direction you are facing, and cast projectiles of which, three rings may decide, 1, 2, or 5 depending on what star the weapon is. There will be 3 types in which the new weapons may be crafted into, 1 is Normal damage, Elemental, and/or Shadow, and Piercing. the lances, will be crafted from 3 stars, to 5 (The damage types, and star crafting, can be changed by three rings.) the 3 star lances from either damage types, will launch only 1 projectile in the direction you are facing, the 4th star, launches 3 projectiles, 1 in the direction you are facing, and the 2 will fire, left and right direction, simliar on how a tier 2 gun puppy would fire them. and the 5th, star would be simliar to the tier 3 gun puppy, all the lances will have decent charge time, but not too fast, that would make it over powered. There might be 1, involving status damage, but the damage type would have to be chosen by the developers. It could be, Shock, Fire, Poison, Stun, Or maybe even curse. The choice is the developers. Although I am sure this might not be implemented into the game, Some people including me might see it fun that there is a new type of weapon, that there-by opens a new type of fighting, strategy, and tactics.
