A better model for understanding feedback on the forums- veterans vs the affected

I proposed this- http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/94274

Which was for the longest time how I modeled feedback. But then a new thought came to be.

There are two majorities of people on the forums:

Type A- Forum veterans

The knights I described seeing above in the link, the forumers that have actively been here for approximately 2 years 35 weeks.

Type B- Effected players

The knights that are directly effected by whichever grievance the game has posed upon them.

Most recently, we saw several threads of dismay regarding the winterfest addition. The issue was that it wasn't designed for them, but that they still wanted something new. Now, they have the event from last year, but that isn't new and they felt prejudiced against.

The older players that have been saddened by the sudden lack of difficulty following the introduction to battle sprites were in for a real treat- but the 3/4* players that were still making their first gear felt they could not compete in the wild world of fighting every single monster with respawning rocket puppies and grievers and trojans and satan himself rising up to stop them in battlepod form.

Was it a smart move for OOO? Absolutely. They just made the game candidate for extension by making the play-time through the game shorter for those joining in via battle sprites, and the end-game players would be disappointed in them had they not done something difficult. This is in all likelihood just a taste of things to come.

But that isn't what this thread is about- take energy for example. The "whiny forumers" were not usually the older forumers (though it often is due to the fact that they legitimately care about the game), but the Type B "effected players" from in game. They got onto the forums to complain about the energy system, and were often berated by the forumers they found existing on the forums.

Its the same for sun shards and fire crystals- sun shards drew in every single vocal bomber/hybrid that loved them. Fire crystals bring every single vocal 4.5* knight to the forums to ponder why they cannot have the same gear as the existing T4 knights.

The forum veterans are often not level-headed about these kinds of things but tend to be more like what my other thread, which I posted above, suggests.

The problem with the majority is that they don't know how to wrap around their ideas.

Oh, everyone want pets? See all the pet threads that never really build a solid foundation.
Oh, everyone complains about the energy system. Let's remove the whole system!
Complain about the game not being difficult? Here's a difficult mission! Heck, we still have Danger missions that everyone blissfully ignored.

I for one support Fehzy's opinion. This is curious-mewkat speaking.

Exactly! But they tell us exactly the right direction to go in... then, one of the older forumers reads through all of their ideas and puts together something fresh and new that is backed up by people. This is how both battle sprites and guild halls have gone....

Pet thread! }
Pet thread! } = Culmination of ideas that experienced players on the forums think will work
Pet thread! }

But then you see people saying "The forumers are just the whiney part of the community..." and they're partially right, but the whiney part of the community is distinctly NOT the veteran forumers, but the vocal section of the in game majority that they speak of "us" as ignoring.

There are some veteran forumers that stand up for the underdogs and continue to say "No guys, the radiant thing IS an issue, even if we've talked it to death.." and find new and creative ways of expressing this, but even so- the veteran forumers that I described do actually develop ideas based around what the majority tells them. In that way, they act in what is vaguely and usually but always, the best interest of the majority.

Content of post makes sense and is agreeable, though.

gods ain't gonna help you, son.

I disagree. everyone acts for his/her own interest. my main interest right now is keep the game running cause I like it.
so radiants are an issue.
brandishes are an issue.
chaos is an issue.
although I pretty much covered the 55% of the problems on it, LD is kind of an issue (well, it's an issue with issues).
I disagree that veteran forumers go on thread sprees about issues, those are pretty much guys that walked here to talk about this; veteran players that are sick of the issues.
then I agree that when lots of forumers complain, it's the community complaining.

Unless it has anything to do with difficulty.

I have very good items and a lot of experience, which puts me in a different perspective than someone who recently hit 5* and has not memorized the enemies' attack and movement patterns.

Let's use Grinchlin Assault for example.

I could argue that the difficulty of the mission is *just right* since I've cleared it without dying. This is not the case for this hypothetical second player. This creates a problem since both of our experiences and thoughts would be right.

It's effectively as if the Solstice Trinkets and danger mission didn't exist for those players. If the mission was available year-round and had it's last room tweaked a little, it'd be much more enjoyable for everyone, I think.

A lot of people editing their posts this week.

Just to add like a sentence or two.

Or even a word.

Like seriously.

Stahp.

my 2 cents

"affected player" can still bring new ideas on how to solve problem.

Not everyone goes on the forum simply to whine and logoff to never come back, some of them actually try to give idea in the suggestion sub-section...

And not all veteran have the best ideas, we all made mistake, we all learned from it. I'm more than welcome to have multiple opinions on the board, as long as the opinioners can discuss about it.

We all had our turn on the balance thread... Don't generalize... I hate dumping people into subgenre basket, we are all unique and have a different point of view of the world

Skype doesn't allow you to edit messages after an hour and delete posts after 24.

As this is a forum, I only get annoyed when people edit their posts after a day has passed.

Um...

Veteran players/ popular forumers are still affected by this too. It is just that most decide not to complain too much. And I always use my phone to post, so my grammar is always terrible. Anyway. yes, I support Fezhor's opinion 90% and think that there is a boundary, but the boundary to forumers shouldn't mean that they were on forums for 2 years and 35 weeks, but more like forumers who have played for a long time in-game since beta or near when it was released.
