Does the extra range from a 5* bomb make it worth losing CTR:med?
Is it worth upgrading my 4* bombs to 5*?

I would go for it with a haze bomb. Those things are slow to charge no matter what you do.
Vortexes, too. Extra pull strength is well worth it.

You can still get CTR max on
You can still get CTR max on unheated 5* bombs if you have a high-level sprite, you just use the bomb focus perk and whatever gear you would have used to get CTR max before the sprites were released. Master Blast Bomb
-Nitronome: Definitely not worth it. You get less than half a tile radius increase to compensate. Don't get me wrong, it is significantly bigger, but still doesn't make up for the damage lost.
-Big Angry Bomb: Get it for the crazy knockback if you want. Even when radiants were common, it was outclassed by Irontech line, if you ask me. Dat knokbak, though.
Irontech Bomb
-Irontech Destroyer: Same 5* range, straightforward damage increase (LVL7+) and longer fuse. No, definitely not worth it.
Electron/Graviton Bomb
-Vortex/Crusher: One million times higher suction power. Get CTR Med from other sources. Worth upgrading.
Atomizer/Capacitor/Burst
-5* haze bomb: Half a tile radius increase. Haze last longer. Two hazes on the ground achievable with CTR VH. Worth upgrading.
Shard bombs
-5* shard bomb: Straightforward damage increase when LVL8. Nothing else changes. Do NOT upgrade.
Spike Shower
-Dark Briar Barrage: See Nitronome. It has a nice Snarby, though.
Expansion
-Dark Retribution: DPS equal to LVL9 Shocking Salt Bomb against slimes when LVL1. Outclasses Shocking Salt with equal damage bonus. 12 orbs achievable with additional CTR Med. Has a nice sidearm coming with it. Worth 3200 CE.

I'd really say to follow Zeddy's advice, but if it were up to me I'd only do it if I could get to max CTR anyway. CTR is silky and smooth and very nice.

Considering that my blast and spine bombs are still 3*, my 3 haze bombs are 4*, I need to finish heating a miracle cloak for a piece of Chaos, get a 4* brandish, buy a DBB recipe, and my sprite is still around level 65, OOO might change the supplies of radiants by the time I actually have the 4* blast and spike bombs since they will probably be later on the list. LOL
Don't even think about it, a 5* bomb is only more powerful that their 4* counter part when it is about lvl7. So leave it as the 4* and you get to keep the CTR med.
