Hi everybody, I'm Vykhram, of the Spanish Forums of Spiral Knights.
In our forums have discussed the possibility of including pets in the game, after discussing it in the vast majority of the points, here I come to present the conclusions that have emerged, officially under my responsibility.
I think that pets should not attack, but you can find them somewhere on the Clockworks and occasionally use them. Let me explain:
"1st Journal Entry Vykhramnian, January 9 of the year 2520:
Walking through the clockworks I found a small animal, quite docile and a little bit weak. I decided to take him to Haven with me, to take care.
2nd Journal Entry Vykhramnian, February 26 of the year 2520:
It's been a few weeks and 'Draco' (so named my pet) and has grown a bit and is very willing to join me in the Clockworks. His strength has increased considerably.
3rd Journal Entry Vykhramnian, May 17 of the year 2520:
Today, Draco has saved my pelt. During a small expedition into the Clockworks I found an dark passage in Candlestick Tower, I have been surrounded by multiple Kats and Grimalkins and they were about to eat me alive. When I saw if Draco was close to me, wasn't. The monsters cornered me in a doorway, saw the mechanism to open, but required underfoot. I also saw a candle standing behind me, but its light was not enough to where I was. Just at that moment before my death, I saw Draco walk on the mechanism that opened the door, then I ran up to that candle and killing Kats following me, and were not affected by the candle, I finally found Draco resting beside the Candle. I owe much to Draco now. "
What I'm getting at is this:
- Revive Clockworks by seeking your own pet, if possible, that or you keep it, or leave it dumped, which can not be bought, or detach or exchanged in Haven Market. (Thus, the person should go down to find your pet in Arcade).
- The system of 'improved level' is similar to Dungeon Defenders game, where the pet gets experience for work performed or, if you're in a hurry, they improve with Crystal Energy, but not Mist Energy, encouraging Energy Market.
- New levels: Could be create new biomes, new levels and puzzles in it, like Prestige Mission Compound 72, which have been created a new biome. Regarding the puzzles, you create some special tunnels and crannies where the Knight cannot reach, but your pet can resolve.
- You may name and perhaps put the pet accessories to personalize and make it more unique.
Now comes the Q & A section, presenting questions that have had some of my fellow Spanish Forum:
Questions:
1. Does the game to find your pet, you have to start from scratch the whole game?
2. When you create your character, you can choose any pet as the Boss or are chosen randomly when you find your pet?
3. When your pet with you on a mission may also attack?
4. Do pets have unique model or models have normal monsters, special, or even Vog Cub?
5. The model is solid for a singleplayer, but as an official in groups?
6. Do all players get a "copy" of the pet? Only the group leader? Random?
Answers:
1. No pets are available from a certain range, for example 5-2.
2. Pets will be completely random. Maybe you can have pets like the bosses, however, they will not attack and will be very hard to find.
3. As I said above, the pet will be limited only to accompany the Knight, not attack and sometimes may be used for any puzzle with extra money or extra heat.
4. 4. I think we can cover the monsters we know (except the Gremlins, and some Undead and Fiend, as Trojans, Zombies and Devilites) as may be in future, I would like to adding some lizards, birds or perhaps including dragons.
5. The model is the same as when you meet a group Mewkat being in Candlestick Tower or any other party for any other special monster.
6. It would be random, as with guns, armor, shields, etc. coming into the boxes. But to prevent a person from getting too many pets, have the maximum number of three and will use only one in battle. Pets will not be available on Lockdown as shields.
Suggestions:
Now some suggestions that have contributed also:
"I do not want to cry, but it would be "good" that pets die or to grow much the set free. Otherwise, go to the arcade once and never return. Releasing pets, so that its evolution is not seen as a loss receive a "Greenpeace Token" to exchange for other accessories. " - @Little-Juances
- The truth also thought about it, that when you can no longer have more pets and want to 'remove' any, then releases it in a new place called Haven 'Animal Sanctuary' or something, where you can find peaceful monsters . At some point you can visit your old pet and interact with them, but you can not take any. Your idea of 'Greenpeace Token' gave me pretty hilarious, but it's very good suggestion and with it you can get, for example, 3 Tokens for special items, whether clothes or accessories for both the pet and for your Knight.
"Tip of Evolution:
'Draco, the Salamander, to reach level 50 became a Volcanic Salamander!'
In almost all monsters have a higher evolutionary stage and I think that is a pet more.
Differentiation tip:
'Draco the Volcanic Salamander is in Haven with his Lord Vykhram, and a Vykhram's friend pass with another Volcanic Salamander.
But wait, Draco has a spot on his back! '
Other than all monsters alike, as there is any difference. "- @Galax-Zero
- Regarding the pet evolve, when we reach a certain level (for example, from 10 to 10) will choose an "Point of Evolution" that will not only help to differentiate the pet, but also start to have aging characteristics, as a young Wolver Cub begin look more like an Alpha Wolver. Also each time you have a PE, you have another to give a unique look to your pet, such as spots on the back, scars, to leave a trail of fire, ice or shock (depending on the condition of Status) and giving more efects to your pet.
Thanks for your time and I hope you like the idea.
PD: Thanks also to Google Translate for helping to simplify the translation. xD

-Vykhram-
1. Many players see the knight as being too powerful already. To what end will this do the knight? (provided that they allow the pets to help the knight in any way)
2. Mecha Knights are the closest things to pets in existence. Most experienced players do not like them. Why would they value these pets that you suggest?
3. Given how hard it would be to work into the game, would it really hold any function? Is it really needed? The awesome value is vaguely there, but then its already been done a billion times before... perhaps you should play Pokemon?
4. Many semi-loyal players are strongly against pets. Oh wait, we don't care about those...
5. How would this benefit the game more than the standard of "more playable content" (referring of course to more arcade levels and monsters) that players have been asking of the devs for? While it could be used for arcade balance, almost anything could, the devs just choose not to endorse their most exciting+fun content.
(I will post this in Spanish in the Spanish thread as well)
