Spiral Order
Spiral Order was established roughly 400 years before skylark fall, after a group known as the 'Sons of Isora' defeated the Spiral Confederacy, the tyrannical government came before the Spiral Order. After the planet was liberated, the 'Sons of Isora' was split apart into two factions, one led by Oceanus who demanded a democratic reformation, the other led by Hyperion, who wanted to form a totalitarian government. In the end, Oceanus was assassinated and Spiral Order took over control of the planet and its people. Their reign was fair, or at least slightly better than the Spiral confederacy, but is lesser evil ever an excuse for tyranny?

The Gremlin Army chain of command
The Great colony is the heart of the Gremlin war effort against the Spiral Order, with their Holy emperor, lord Tinkinzar as the supreme commander. Their army is split into five parts. I am putting in the Nazi German army factions here as a comparison.

Tinkinzar = Hitler = Supreme commander

Crimson Order = Gestapo = Secret intelligence

Dark fang = Waffen-SS = Elite veterans

Iron claw = Wehrmacht = Standard infantries

Tender foot = Volksstrum = Civilian soldiers

The Morai War

In a short span of 30 years, after two devastating civil wars, Spiral knights' home planet Isora was at her knees. The planet can no longer sustain its population and admiral Ozlo shepherded what was left of the Isoran orbital fleet to a distant galaxy hundreds of light years away from Isora, to an alien planet named Ruia. Their goal was simple, Isora's planet core was depleted of energy and a new planet's energy core must be sacrificed to revive Isora. Like a knight could be revived with a spark of life, Isora too could be saved in the same fashion.

But as they approached the Alien planet Ruia, they were attacked by the planet's inhabitant, the Morais, Ruia was also ruled by a tyrannical emperor, Dues Aradama, who twisted the Morai genome, mutating them into mindless servants of his will: fulfilling his depraved dream of galactic conquest. Upon making planet fall, the Spiral knight marines found themselves jammed in a brutal onslaught with a legion of genetically engineered Morai soldiers. Despite the fire support from the fleet's warships, the spiral knights could not crack the defenses of the Morai capital city.

Slowly loosing the war of attrition and his capital ships, Ozlo dispatched the Iron wolves, an elite teams of operatives to assassinate the Morai emperor in a last ditch attempt to break the Morai legion's morale. The iron wolves battled their way into the imperial palace before facing down the mighty Dues Aradama, despite team rookie Desna's heroic effort in slaying the mad emperor, the victory came at a terrible prize, every iron wolves except for Desna had died during the engagement, she later on established the recon rangers in remembrance of her lost comrades.

Much to Ozlo and all of his advisers' dismay, the Morai legion fought on and eventually pushed the Spiral knights off from the planet surface. It was bloody retribution for the death of their emperor, whose influence still lingered on.

Upon knowing that the admiral ordered the use of capital weaponry in order to eradicate the Morai race, Ozlo's female vice-admiral, Biscotti, went on a mutiny to persuade Ozlo not to commit holocaust. But it was too late, Ozlo looked into the mirror and all he saw was the Morai emperor, grinning indiscriminately at the slaughter he had committed on Ruia. After arresting Biscotti and demoting her to a chef on board a smaller cruiser named Skylark, Ozlo ordered the extermination of planet Ruia for costing him so much men and materials.

Desna, knowing that Ozlo was insane, sabotaged his flag ships reactor core and ruined any chance of Ozlo taking planet Ruia's power core and revive Isora. The Morai race was saved from extermination, but Isora was doomed as Ozlo witnessed his flag ship smashed into Ruia's planet surface and the rest of his fleet decimated by the Morai planetary defenses. Only Skylark managed to escape the massacre.

Vowed to destroy Desna, Ozlo engaged the iron wolf rookie in mortal combat at the crash site of his flag ship. After a grueling duel, Desna spared Ozlo's life when she was informed by Kora that Skylark's captain died from a missile attack and the only person who had any experience in commanding a large cruiser like Skylark was none other than Ozlo, the last remaining captain of the fleet. Again, fate cackled at the Admiral's misery.

The rest, was history, both Desna and Ozlo denied the past at the faces of new born knights. The dark deeds of Ruia campaign shall never pass their lips and the Spiral Order will forever remain as the righteous defenders of Isora in the children's memory. Ozlo knew fully that if he tried to kill Desna, she would certainly spill out his bloody past and drag him down to the firing squad with her, and Vice Versa. In this grim dark world, the universe knew only war... cradle shall be both our heaven and our hell, this is, our outer heaven.

No prob, I am the Matt Ward of Spiral knights, while everyone else is busy writing stories, I am constructing a massive lore universe for the Spiral knights. I made some unique twists to the lore like Spiral Order being the actual bad guys in the Morai war and the Morais were simply minding their own business.

Lord Inceptron and the genesis of Cradle

Inceptron is the creator god of my SK fanon, wielding a magnificent blade known as the blade of genesis, he is the man responsible for the genesis of cradle and the civilization that once developed here. Unlike Thinslayer, I have a different take on the core, ever wondered why the core is sealed? It is because the Gremlins want to lock this guy in for all eternity, why you ask?

At the beginning, cradle was unformed, two clouds of lingering energies clumped together in a small corner of the dark universe, they struggled against each other for reasons we do not know, perhaps love, or perhaps hate. But everything changed when a man arrived from no where, wielding a blade unlike no other, and with this blade, he cleaved through a gap between the two types of energies, the Swarm and the Mist.

It was at that moment when disparities were created, when everything before was grey, now there are light and dark, love and hate, life and death. Lord Inceptron harnessed the two energies and materialized the mist energy into the clockwork that we know today, and as for the swarm, he condensed them into the swarm seeds. And as said before, with disparity, comes life, organisms eventually appeared in the clockwork and Inceptron retreated to the core of the mechanical planet, leaving these organisms to their own devices.

The livings evolved, from single celled jelly cubes to a multicellular wolver, when the time came that the denizens of the clockwork had a sufficient amount of sentience to acknowledge his presence, Inceptron made himself known. He anointed the chief of one of the most evolved species to become the 'Architect', the Architect was gifted with near unlimited knowledge and they were assigned by Lord Inceptron to guide their species to a golden age. But unknown to the Architect, with disparity comes life, but also, death must take their course as well, for every civilizations that once flourished on cradle, they must also one day collapse, and on the day that a civilization fell, the swarm seeds consume the knowledge and the memories of those that have fallen and archive them for the next generation of new cradle inhabitants. No one knows how many times had this cycle repeated itself, for the grassy sky islands and their ruined walls tells no tale.

The only two known Architects were Vanaduke and Tinkinzar, with Vanaduke been the architect of the Almirian civilization and Tinkinzar been the architect of the Gremlin civilization respectively. Vanaduke and his ruined kingdom was a warning to Tinkinzar of his own colony's future. So in order to prevent this cycle from repeating itself and ensure the survival of his kingdom, Tinkinzar and a race of extra terrestrial aliens known as the 'Stargazers' combined their forces to weaken Lord Inceptron long enough for a layer of indestructible metal shells to be constructed around him, once sealed inside the core, Inceptron can no longer temper with the clock works at his will. This battle came at the cost of the entire 'Stargazer' race as they died one by one at the blade of the one who created cradle, but their sacrifice prevented the Gremlin race from been consumed by the swarm, unlike the civilizations before them, the gremlins defeated the cycle of rise and fall.

But Lord Inceptron's influence lingered on, many times had he managed to influence the most adventurous souls into liberating him from his prison. This forced Tinkinzar to turn Inceptron's creation against him, the light consuming swarm seeds, by planting them near the core, the all devouring swarm became a death trap that deterred or killed any adventurers that sought to enter the core. with Gremlins' survival ensured, Tinkinzar resumed his reign, although his reign was bloody and brutal, Tinkinzar knew from deep in his heart that this was the only way if his kingdom was going to last.

Thousands of years later, Skylark crashed while in orbit with cradle, and with her fall, came the Spiral Knights. Will you help setting Lord Inceptron free as he dangled the sanctuary alchemy machine at you or will you stand your ground and fight the inevitable fate of all organic beings? The choice is yours, welcome to cradle.

(Damn, that was way too philosophical for a lighthearted game like SK wasn't it?)

Always thought the Morai Wars pertained to a certain demographic of people / an area / another race entirely, though I've leaned towards the "genetically perfect organisms" because of possible reasons for wanting to use power suits on an entire population aka the Spiral Knights. If it took beyond using conventional ballistics in turn for the return of melee weapons and energy-based guns, I'd assume the Morai were pretty tough physically / technologically to demand enhancements for an Isoran's body. From weapon lore, I'd also assume Morai were capable of some rudimentary technology, but eliminated the advantages in tech because there were no such things like EMP. This, coupled the use of plasma-based weapons (I.e. Blaster lines, catalyzer lines, grim repeater, pepper box, etc.) would mean that this Morai were either more dependent on energy than the Isorans ever were, or they were not capable of reproducing that type of technology. I chose the latter decision as some lore describes the Morai using war machines and fire, more medieval descriptions than say tanks, aircraft, etc. Thus, if the Morai ever used such rudimentary tech (implied so by lore descriptions, but I could be wrong) from the Classic era and the Dark Ages, they'd have to be much more biologically capable to overtake the Isorans.

I'd then assume at some point the Morai would later use some catastrophic planet muncher to make Isora inhabitable, calling for the departure of the Skylark, if the creation of the suits the Knighs use was not taxing enough already on the resources.

Much of the rest is self explanatory, so I took bits from other fanfictors to spruce up my works to more than what they are, but I try not to detract too much from the universe. That would be leaving the fan fiction world a little too far back into creating a universe based off of someone else's original concept.

That, and I'm a little busy dealing with the creation of multiple, more original universes of multiple roleplays I do off-site, sho...I dont
really have the time to flesh out stuff without exiting the hypothesis zone and taking my own time off. Still though, I do like this game's original concept, if it were only fleshed out more...

I gave up trying to write SK stories a while ago and have instead turned to writing up an entire encyclopedia thing for all my lore. Which is to say, a lot of lore.

Well, Matt Ward is a game designer for the Warhammer 40K board game, he wrote some of the lore and what not to enrich the massive universe of WH 40K. If you call yourself Tolkien, then you are implying that you are constructing your imaginary world from ground up... kinda makes no sense if you are making lore for a game that already have its own lore.

Fair enough.
