Hey guys, I have a bit of a problem. I'm trying to get Advance Orbs of Alchemy, but the missions that give you them ,before the mission you become Tier 3, only give you six total. The problem is is that I must have Around 15 to upgrade my items (Armor, Helmet, Sword, Gun, and Shield) to become tier 3, but the missions only give you six, And I especially don't want to waste my energy or crowns at the auction house to get the rest. Is there any other way of getting the orbs? Is it possible for me to play a mission on a higher difficulty and get the mission rewards again?
Advanced Orbs of Alchemy Help
How much of a chance is there for me finding and Advanced Orb of Alchemy in a stratum?
(Also, I have another question, How do you get a profile pic on the forums?)

Probably it depends on how many treasure boxes you open in that stratum. What are the chances that a given treasure box will contain an orb? Skepticraven is currently collecting data on that:

I don't know whether he has enough data yet, to seriously estimate the chances, because the chances are so low. If you refuse to buy orbs with energy, then you could be playing for many, many hours before you find the three you need for a given crafting.
Probably not enough data yet to say for certain, but at or below 1% chance is a good estimate.
The interesting part about advanced orbs is that it is currently more efficient with that 1% criteria to farm an even stratum (S2,4,6 instead of S3 where the orbs drop) for crowns and simply buy the orbs from the supply depot. Simple, elite, and eternal orbs are most efficient to farm the even stratum that encompasses their drop. Simple depends on how efficiently you can farm, but can still prove to be viable.
I'll just farm some crowns and try buying the rest on the auction house then, seems the easiest way.
Actually, you'd typically get better prices by doing what Bopp said, and trading crowns for ce in the supply depot, then buying orbs with the energy you traded for.
All the orbs in the auction house would have been bought from the depot, and as a result, are most likely more expensive than those because people like making a profit and/or more crowns. Keep in mind though that you can only get them in three's from the depot (the number you need for crafting), while in the AH you can get them in one's, two's, and any other number people put them up in. Still, it's more expensive.
No, you don't get the mission rewards again, even on higher difficulty. Sorry.
The default way to obtain orbs is to buy them with energy from the Supply Depot. And of course you can buy energy from other players using crowns. In Spiral Knights, upgrading your equipment is precisely what you're supposed to spend your crowns/energy on. It's...the main thing in the game.
Sometimes, when you want to craft an item, you will find that you already have enough orbs, just from mission rewards and finding orbs randomly. When this happens, you should be pleasantly surprised. It should not be your default expectation.
If you want to try to find the orbs randomly, then pick the appropriate stratum (by reading the wiki page "Rarity") and going to places with many treasure boxes: arenas, danger rooms, danger missions, etc.
(Before release 2013-07-30, crafting cost energy --- exactly as much energy as it takes to buy the orbs needed, under the new system. In other words, crafting costs didn't change at all in that mega-update, except (A) sometimes you get to craft for free, because you already have the orbs, and (B) there is no mist energy, which some players used to lessen their crafting costs.)
