Well hi! Been around a long time, and I don't believe I've ever really posted in this subforum before. Anyway! It's probably not known but I actually am an illustrator. Or getting there, at least. I took a bit of a mental health break after graduation and am starting to get back on the ball, and Spiral Knights has been quite inspirational for me.

My full art blog can be found at AddyArts.tumblr.com, but warning that some of it might be a little nsfw. Mostly just life drawings but yEAH... Nothing graphic at least.

And some recent Spiral Knights-flavored art :

Developing a "Knightsona":

(Sorry, no freebies for the time being, but perhaps in the near future!)

Anywho. yeah. More to come soon I'm sure! Working a lot more these next few weeks than I anticipated so it might be a while before things are updated.

10$ per hour...
That's quite pricey.

I'd be rich at that rate, cause I take forever. But Addy's art is better than mine so $10 isn't too bad.

$10/hour is industry standard

$10/hour is industry standard pricing (for somebody just starting out at least), and what I can actually earn by working elsewhere. I may try to come up with something cheaper that I can do quickly in the meantime, colored headshots or something perhaps?

I guess I should mention that the fully-colored Cupcake Warrior drawing took under an hour and a half, so I'm a pretty fast artist too. (Also, thank you, Cinoa!)

It isn't, but I figured I'd

It technically* isn't, but I figured I'd post commissions here if people are interested. Otherwise I'll just use this thread for showing general SK art I'm doing!

As mentioned, I personally sell art for this rate on other websites. I love Spiral Knights, but if I could sell art of other things with the same effort involved for $10 and buy the CE myself, why would I go for less here... when I don't even have the option of spending the CE on anything else? (In theory, I should charge MORE, as most artists do that for game currencies, but I'm sticking to a flat rate.)

If you're unhappy with my prices, I'm terribly sorry. Nobody's forcing you to buy from me, and you can get art from other people for less, as I've seen around here. This is just my rate for my own work.

*when I say "industry," I mean the freelancing industry, which this sort of falls under? As an illustration graduate, I kind of plan on making a whole career out of it, just figured I'd try some CE work in the meantime while I'm working on a professional portfolio. If I don't sell anything here that's okay, there'll still be more art to post at least. <3

Ah, yes.
I was just suggesting a lowered price since most of these players are F2P and 10$ in CE isn't really in their favour.
3,500 Energy for $9.95 USD

That's a lot of CE.

Current CE pool stands ~6.6kCR (currently) Per 100CE, so 35 clicks for 3500 energy...~231kCR.
That's quite a load for a F2P, which is the majority of the SK community.

I DO respect you as an artist, just out of college and all, but if you do, as you said want to make a little moneh on the side, I'd suggest lowering your price to of more reasonable prices. Even though 5$ doesn't sound like a lot, but more people would go for it, and~ you would still be gettin' a little something back too! c: It is like the real industry too though. Start low, then as more demand, then raise it ever so slightly...

Sorry if I sounded crass, I was just trying to help you get some business! :)

To be fair, $10 in CE isn't

To be fair, $10 in CE isn't in my favor. I can only spend it in-game (or for Steam games), not on food or gas or other real-life expenses I have. So these are non-essential commissions I'd be offering and won't be too bummed if I don't have a lot of customers. (And I work really quickly, the Cupcake Knight literally took under 90 minutes and I round to the nearest, not up.)

$5 doesn't sound like a lot because it frankly isn't, and it's not like the art comes out of thin air. That's below minimum wage, for a craft I paid tens of thousands of dollars on schooling to hone, not even counting the hours spent learning on my own time, too. :( If I'm ever hurting for CE or something I might do a flash sale ... or sell off-site, haha. It's still a tentative thing anyway. And this thread's for more than just commissions and the whole price debate, I do non-commission art too! Lots of stuff planned.

Should have more sketches to post tonight! As soon as I get around to setting up my scanner again at least. :3

The problem is why is it 10$/hr. It should be a flat rate charge, something like 30$ for a completed fully colored character with plain or simple patterned background. This could take 2-3 hours, or if you are really lazy, 4-5 hours maybe. 10$/hr is an untrustworthy rate.

Zaffy - maaan I guess I

Zaffy - maaan I guess I should've been a bit more clear in my OP, the general idea was that the person would contact me and we'd work it out beforehand. My intent was that I'd hear what you wanted done, give an approximation of how long it'd take, we'd agree on a price and THAT's how much I charge (with the 10/hr in mind). Sometimes it takes me longer, but since it's more than what we agreed on.. I don't charge the extra. :s I wasn't aware that so few people did this style of commissioning before as it's never been an issue anywhere else. My bad there and I'm sorry for the confusion.

Once I have more SK-relevant art I could make a more detailed posting of what you could expect. I kept it so vague before because I only have one "finished" SK example and people might want something different!

Cinoa - Please don't speak for me in my own thread? D: Or devalue my work, even if it's a joke.

in the meantime, commissions aren't actually happening yet. Just got my new work schedule and it's a lot more hours than anticipated so that's temporarily backburnered for my own projects. :'D so all of this debate is for nothing anyway, they weren't even officially open. it was more to show off some recent stuff I did that I was pretty proud of hahaha. Was NOT expecting so much of this to take off.

Hellscreams - Once again, I

Hellscreams - Once again, I am not selling myself short for digital currency. But also, once again, /I'm not even opening commissions yet/. I'd forgotten how entitled people outside of the art community were to free/cheap art. :( There are plenty of other sources for that around here, since it's going to be problematic for me to sell here then I won't steal work away from other artists.

Thinking of just remaking this as a general art thread once I have more to show, with no commission mentions at all, what a trainwreck. :s
