I guess that this topic has been created long time ago but I didn't find it.

Before it became in the favourite place to farm crowns for almost everybody, how was your first experience playing Firestorm Citadel? The ambient, the large groups of Slag Walkers and Trojans, the long time that it took to finish one of the levels, etc...

According to my steam achievement, I finished for first time FSC on August 26, 2011. The experience was very memorable for me, I was 4* and only a knight of my party finished FSC before (there weren't missions in those days and all were very noobs without know what kind of enemies appear there so we found bad surprises in almost every moment). Vanaduke took us about 45 minutes (no joke, my party had Valiance only, no Blitz or Shiver)

My sincere congratulations to OOO to create a such place as FSC, really love the ambient, the horror of the flames and the imposing organ playing in the background. All of this made me got into the role that I was near of the end of the game and there was no turning back!

I just hope that the new T3 boss has a good castle/base/level with an unforgettable experience for the first run of everybody.

the wheels

I randomly joined a party at depth 23 and got onto the elevator, not realizing that we were headed someplace special. When the wheels starting coming at us, I was pretty freaked-out. As we played the level, the other players kept surging ahead to handle the wheels and monsters, so I had trouble figuring out what was going on. I left sometime in the second level.

Then I started going back solo, to learn how the place worked. That's what I recommend for all players new to FSC: slow solo work.

I was rather useless.

The first time I got into FSC was from a friend invite. I already knew of the existence of FSC, but not exactly what it was. When I joined the party, we were at the second floor in the middle of room. Everyone had just finished clearing out some Slags.

Everyone ran in separate ways except for me. I just sat there and tried to figure out what to do. By that time, most of the others had gotten a Sprite, and Slags began popping up everywhere. I figured that I would gun them down with my Voltech Alchemer MKII. That actually went pretty well. But by the time I killed them all off, everyone had already saved all Sprites and destroyed all the remaining Slags with their Brandishes.

I left once we got to the elevator. That's what little I had learned for when I finally went in as a Champion.

My first time was long before the mission update. I was still working on my first full 5* set at the time - I remember having an Ascended Calibur and my trusty Valiance eqipped - and decided to just join a random tier three party and see where it took me. Surely there'd be an open party somewhere in the first half that I could play with for a while, heat up my gear a bit.

I was promptly greeted with the second floor of Firestorm Citadel, which I knew I was under-equipped for.

Still, I was willing to at least try my hand at it, particularly as the party I'd found myself with hadn't simply kicked the noob out of hand (although I remember a bit of grumbling here and there). So, it being the second floor, we all split up and went off to different rooms. I wanted to prove that I could be an asset to the party, so I split off as well and picked a room none of the others had gone into...and ended up walking right into that blasted rocket puppy. Armed with an Ascended Calibur and my Valiance.

Needless to say, it did not go well for me.

I don't really remember much of the rest of that run - it was several years ago now. I remember first one, then two of my erstwhile companions quit after dying one too many times, while the third and my unusually determined self fought on. I'm pretty sure he (or she, you never know) basically carried me through the run that first time, because I certainly didn't know what I was doing and, much as I like my Valiance, it is not a good weapon for FSC. And I remember feeling a little disappointed when my final companion said they were done at the elevator after a particularly hard fight, but I knew that there was no way I could face whatever came next alone, and so I left as well.

Now that I've been through FSC so many times more, though, I'm 90% certain that this player, whose name I have long since forgotten, carried me right to Lord Vanaduke himself. So if anyone here remembers escorting some random idiot with a Valiance, Cobalt-line helmet and Divine Mantle through the depths of Firestorm Citadel back in January 2012, thank you.

First experience in Firestorm Citadel (Edited)

I went alone as I did with all the other content in the game. I try to not rely on people all that much. No offense to those who need assistance :) I learnt this game by going in solo for everything. My only "aid" was good Bonuses. I made stupid mistakes at first, like walking into shadow fire and getting hit (who does that? XD). I honestly never turned on the in-game music (I have Osu! as an MP3 player). I do well in parties (some bring polarises too obstruct vision, but I deal with it). Now I just create a party and leave it open because it really doesn't matter who comes in. Sure I die sometimes on "bad days" I mean we all have them. Other days you just "breeze" through" stuff.

I believe I was a Knight-Knight Elite back then and my two friends wanted to help me rank up so they decided to carry me in FSC. They didn't want me to do anything of course since 2*-3* weapons so almost nothing. So when we got to D25 they told me to just freeze all the slags that appeared in the middle and such while they brought back the cursed sprites. Then when the slags actually spawned I was scared that the slags were going to take the sprites away .-.

Because I stayed at 3* for over a year, I joined SK before missions came out but didn't actually do FSC until they had. First time was in Dusker with a 3* shield and and an Avenger, and I was struck by how easy it was except for the fact that my shield broke in one hit. Except for the actual boss fight, which went something like this. (the video is something like my third try at the boss)

It was painful, I was carried by my (very kind) friends while I was a mere 2* wacking zomgs with a troika. Oh, the pain. There's really nothing else to describe the experience... Not that I really remember much :\

...Three years later I'm soloing FSC in 40-45 minutes, and FSC is rarely a challenge anymore. Oh, the gaps.

At the time, a good friend o' mine explained me FSC in its entirety(I don't quite remember the name at the moment, but if I see it I know what his name is). At this moment I have full Mercurial Mail, Grey Owlite Shield, Divine Avenger, Fearless Rigadoon. For the most part I was like... "wat"... because I mainly ran Roarmulus Twins then (I had gotten two of every Roarmulus item). So... I had quite little experience with shadow enemies in general... And my Divine Avenger was a new sword I had recently gotten(compared to my Silent Nightblade and Fearless Rigadoon which were my main weapons). Soooooo I mostly ran around...

(no subject)

Everyone who knows me from my guild knows what a pain and/or difficulty it was to help me along with the mission "The King of Ashes" when missions were first released.......the only 5-star set I had at the time was the Azure Guardian set, and my only good weapons were the Dread Venom Striker and a Valiance with Undead:Low.

Regardless, I kept at it until I had enough crowns to craft a Vog Cub set (which only helped keep me alive slightly longer than the Azure Guardian set), and then, within the next year, I crafted the Divine set, Glacius, Polaris, Shivermist Buster, and the Crest of Almire, and that's essentially all I use in FSC these days. There's no way in hell that I ever would've gotten as far as I did with that mission -- much less the rest of the game -- if my guild didn't have an interest in making sure I was properly outfitted for it, though. >.>

Oh, I had it fun.

I had 5* gear by the time missions came out, but I held off on doing the King of Ashes mission for a long time, primarily because it intimidated me. While a defender elite, I was invited to a party. I had full valkyrie, grey owlite shield, a leviathan blade and a magma driver. No trinkets or anything either. I actually did pretty well, as I played the game super safe(A massive fire vulnerability will do that to you). I had to beg the other team member for remedy capsules, and they decided this run to test out the myth that if you didn't break any HP boxes, if you got a free item.

So essentially, this meant no health boxes, massive fire vulnerability, no boosted HP, and not fully heated gear, and at a time of party-shared loot, not too many health capsules or vitapods either. Believe it or not I didn't die (or if I did it was on the boss battle), but that's a good memory I carry about this game.

I got invited by some people

I got invited by some people who died, but I was still 3 star so I have no idea why they invited me. Anyways, I tried to kill one of the slags but it just kept reviving (I wasn't very clear on totem mechanics at the time) so I just gave up eventually and left after I died (the others died again after I revived them).

It was a doozy.

Around mid 2012 or 3/4, I finally went to craft my 5* things. All I had was my Azure Guardian Armor. Eager to see FSC for myself, yet knowing I wasn't ready, I snuck a peek from the T3 terminal. It was fascinating, and really scary. It all ended with that last kill room of D27 after tons of energy revives.

My first FSC run was a complete failure. It was way before missions came to SK and I had recently obtained 4* equipment. I had the Ash Tail set, an ascended calibur, a wise owlite shield, and an antigua. I died quite alot and my antigua wasn't really a great gun. In the last room of D27 everyone had died and nobody wanted to revive so we all went back to Haven. My second Vanaduke run in the arcade went alot better. I remembered how to do some rooms and remained cautious. My party members were nice enough to teach me how take the role of watering and killing slags for the boss fight. FSC became alot of easier once I got a Silversix and my Leviathan blade. A long time later I decided to craft a Strike Needle and that made FSC runs smoother.

It was interesting.

My first run was an enormous failure. I didn't quite have the right equipment at the time and I vastly underestimated how tough it would be. In fact, as soon as those first gates were lowered, I decided it'd be a good idea to simply dive straight away into the firey passageway with the wheels. Though, I soon realized that maybe running in there with such reckless abandon wasn't such a smart plan when I soon got mowed down by those very same wheels.

Full cobalt + silversix + vile striker

I made it to about midway through D26, before one of my team mates pressed all of the buttons and left me there to die. Later on I figured out how to farm it better, and cheese the first level. A friend's party had managed to wipe on the first level of a gate, and they were inviting random people to come save them... that was how I got in.

My first time was a long time

My first time was a long time ago. A very long time ago.

I went with a friend who knew her way around. There were no difficulties at this point, so I believed it would be called 'advanced'?

I had a Leviathan blade, Owlite Shield (the 5* one. Grey?) Vog Cub and a strike needle. (These were my only items at the time)

I think it was pretty lucky that I was running Vog/Owlite and Needle. I was told in detail before every party button exactly what to expect, when trojans would spawn, how to deal with trojans, etc etc.

Overall, it probably took around two hours to complete (since the second area had a lot of explanation for a first time FSC player), but it was a great experience, and made every run thereafter extremely easy, especially with helping out other players who didn't exactly know what to do at the time.

Knyack, the first time I went to fsc is still seared into my brain. I will never forget that run.

Waaaaaay long before we got missions, I was invited by someone on my friend list, who I think is long gone by now, a few years ago when I was a 4* swordsman. I had no guns nor bombs, so you can pretty much guess how most of the run went for me. I had the basic dusker set, a blizzbrand, wise owlite and a daring rigadoon. I remember the music that played during the fights made the run super intense, probably because I've never heard anything like it in the whole game. It was quite the step up from any other soundtrack in game.

I also believe it was my first time seeing a trojan, so I didn't know what the floop I was doing when it was aggro'd on me. Luckily, the person that invited me was super nice and handed me pills every now and then. He also pointed out that the rigadoon I was using could help beat the trojan, yet I was petrified to even try anything but shield and get the heck away from it. It was basically like this in the vanaduke fight too. When I first saw him, I was just saying to myself "we have to beat THIS guy?"

As my party of four finally got to him, my friend told me to not get in front of vana at all costs and don't double water the mask. So I just sat there out of the way in amazement as those three other members curbstomped the living daylights out of the boss 10x our chibi sized height.

Seriously guys, all you nice vets that actually take the time to help out the lower tier people really means a lot. I just wish I could remember the person who invited me. ;-;

It was a while ago. Back then, we didn't have missions or the Mission menu screen. All we had was an arcade. And we made the most of that Arcade. I had always wanted to fight Vanaduke, or as I liked to put it, "The final boss." Now, I was a Four Star Cloak-y guy. Forgot what weapons i had. I had a lot of energy in my pocket, which made up for my inexperienced fighting to my party. I constantly died, they wanted me gone. Yet, the party leader didn't kick me. I am glad that deep down, one can know how another truly feels about this experience. After fighting hordes of "Slags", "Almirians", or Zombies, We finally got to Vanaduke. Now, when it has that little cutscene, one word came off the sound of the bell ringing in my head, "Epic... Epic.... Epic..." After the fight, this had also been the first time I saw someone use their snarble barb with a full snarbolax set. Therefore, when he used his super attack, it was not a ghost of the snarbolax, but a full solid figure. For a while, I had never been to the snarbolax fight, so I forgot it's name. I asked him, "what is the name of ur set. fangular?". After the battle had passed, he told me, for you see, he was not mad at me since the fight had ended. But most of the party wanted me dead. After the Firestorm Citadel, I came across the most amazing, yet depressing place in all of Cradle. The core. Oh how every time I would hold up the entire party, just as I sat there, looking at every edge of it, admiring it, and trying to solve it together. To anyone who reads this, Game Developer or not, Spiral Knights is a truly amazing game, with a spectacular set of levels known as, "The firestorm citadel".

Before missions, there was a bug....

Said bug allowed for some noobs to be sent into places with properly-geared teammates....

I had the old RSS, my only 4* anything, and some very enjoyable bomber gear. My shield wasn't anything great.

We ran as a duo, I had to dodge more fire and instant-death than I thought was worth it. We ran to vanaduke with a high enough revive cost that I wiped my friend's account in cr and ce. My tokens were sweetest then.

But alas, such fun is lost. Not beautiful but plenty true.

When I first hit FSC, I was totally blown away by how atmospheric, well-designed, and generally epic the levels were. Sure, it was hard at first, but still incredible.

I got invited by a friend into the boss, and got 1 hit. I layed there for like 5 mins, as they were getting roflstomped by Vana. So i left.

My first actual run had me sitting behind Blazz and another guildmate as they rolled through it, and i just spammed Combuster charges all day. And aggroed the boss so they wouldn't get killed. :P

But my reaction to the final room was basically like this.

I'll keep it short and simple. I've been playing this game for 3 years now, so this was back before all the nerfing and when you could revive with energy. I had all the wrong gear. I took my Azure Guardian set, Aegis Shield, Divine Avenger, Leviathan, Sentenza, and Ash of Agni. One guy even left at d23 when he saw my gear. Run went ok, despite my bad gear. It's when we get to Vanaduke when [scrap] hits the fan. First phase went well, since we could use our swords. First mask phase went alright too. Come third phase, everything goes bad. No one in our party had a good gun against Vanaduke. The best gun in our party was a Polaris. So we kept dying and dying and dying. No one wanted to give up. So we kept going at it. Everyone is dead. 2 hours later and more than 1k CE wasted on revives, we call it quits. That's right, we spent about 2 hours trying to kill Vanaduke, with no success.

I did my first Vana run back in 2011 (I switched to Steam beginning of 2012, so I've no idea when I even beat Vana, let alone tried for the first time), completely by accident. I just got full 4* stuff and so was running a tier 3 with an experienced gunner and another two people around my level. We get to the start of Vana, both of the other two leave. The gunner says "oh, we can try it, you did well enough in the previous levels". We go down--and I get pwned by the wheels straight off. I had no idea what I was getting into, but the gunner was super nice and dragged my dead body around until midway through D27 and explained a lot of stuff to me. After that, I took a while to make a Vog Cub set and started going with two other friends. I remember hitting the 1xx CE rev and finally pwning Vana after a few suicide tries. We got better, started using Shiver/Blitz, and by the time missions came around we were pretty pro at it.

...Then I quit for two years and now I'm back to sucking. \o/

Not really sure how we are going to get

more continents ^^^

Eventually, I guess, the planet's land masses will split, and we will have a new continent, but if that's what you are waiting for, it's going to be a while.

My first time in FSC was a fire covered bloodbath. Lycheesoup and I were carried through by a couple well intention-ed knights who did this for fun. This was back when you could glitch Vana into the water statues, and I guess back before the shiverblitz combo was discovered (or before it was mainstream).

The wheels crushed me, the zombies tracked me down mercilessly, and virtually everything there told me I AM NOT READY FOR THIS. Essentially, my first foray into FSC taught me that I am better off in RJP. We stayed there for a while until our good friend and guildmate Chromiax decided to move onto a guild that could actually handle FSC on the regular. At that point, we realized we should probably get better at it. Funny how such a terrifying area is now such a breeze.

First time Tier 2

First time i tried this, i had NOTHING tier 3. i had like elemental cloak, wolver helm, kilowatt pulsar, and a shockburst brandish. the fire pads would one shot me to 1 bar (because of the so-called Sonic effect **) and the burn would kill me afterwards. that's when i realized just how essentials vitapods are.

the first time i tried this mission was with guildmates. They were extremely nice, and despite the fact that i was all T2, they even sometimes invited me so i could get Almirian Seals. Eventually, i endured it enough that i got 30 seals and got Blackened Crest. I would act like i forgot how i got it if i wasn't qualified for the mission and was always poor. eventually when most of my stuff was T3, i got CoA. (looking for depth with Basil and the recipe was a pain)

**
Sonic-the-Hedgehog effect. If Sonic has at least one ring and takes a hit, he'll live. If he has 0 rings, he'll die. It's like if you have equipment that is not good for the mission, and/or you take a really strong hit, you will be reduced to ONE bar of health as long as you had more than one bar before you got hit.

EDIT--
before one of the updates, in Charred Court (second floor, don't remember what depth, the one with all the sprites) i would go the the very bottom right, hit the switch, and do charge-hit-then-run-back. they had those "gates" that players could go through but not monsters. i would attack then move back. i would actually do that for every room i could, but due to an update, once you go in, you can't back out until the area is done :(

Ah the memories

Man my first experience i was kind of more well prepared then some. The people I partied up with all had done it before and kind of walk me through the steps. I knew from watching magnus's vanaduke videos what i was in for. Actually my first run I did very well. I am not sure if i had an argent peacemaker or a silver six but it was such a long battle just getting hit once was a death wish. No shiver eithier so u had to kite the crap out of vana and lots of people had that swiftbuckler i think it was. Anyways that was the day I was mesmerized by a knight named Uuaa and man he taught me everything I knew. He was just up in vana's face almost dancing with him and never got hit once. After that I was hooked on the challenge. And I wanted to make a guild solely around it. I created a guild named Active which ultimately became Unity.

Same thing happened to me. It was really fun at first. Then I realized that..

My first time of FSC... I didn't know how to get around the wheels in the first level... I mean, I was COMPLETELY clueless.

........

I got invited to an FSC run by some dead Vanguard friends to revive their party (This was before Sparks existed). I had measly 2* armor, a Troika and an Autogun, and I was hoping I'd at least make it to their corpses. But I spawned in front of a pair of really angry Trojans. Guess what happened.

My first time I spawned, walked 3 steps into a frame spike (my computer was made of wood), had my game crash, and had to have the party tell me later that I had died to an awesome fire/wheel/zombie slash combo. I then received a Darwin award.

I was in the arcade with 3 other knights. We were all low ranks at the time. We got to depth 24 only to find out that it was FSC. We were all panicking about how scary it looked. Although it did take quite some time, I was surprised that we did extremely well... Up until the boss. None of us had any idea what we were doing. I had an unheated Gigawatt Pulsar and another knight had a Silversix. The other two didn't have guns at all. Each of us died twice within the first minute. I started going through all my sparks, making very little progress each time I revived. It took me around 60 sparks to kill Vanaduke. (Not an over exaggeration.) I didn't really feel like I won though. I was quite relieved that it was over and I was eager for the reward. Upon discovering that the prize was just a few treasure boxes, I was very angry and logged off.

It is interesting thinking back at it though. Vanaduke is now my favorite boss fight and I get a nice feeling of accomplishment every time I win without using a spark even though I've done the level over 100 times now.

My first vana run? I was full

My first vana run?

I was full ash tail, owlite, blazebrand, and some other useless weapon (back when the brandishes were hipster).

To sum up the whole run: 4 guys, one polaris.

We won with me and my nub friend dead on the floor. I remember he polaris guy saying something along the lines of "You guys made this harder than it should have beeen," or similar.

Good times...

Well then...

I had 100% knowledge of the earlier floors of Vana, since I'd watched a TON of strategy guides, cuz I knew it was hella hard. Basically, I had full chaos, BTS, an avenger or warmaster rocket hammer (Can't remember which) , a gigawatt pulsar and a strike needle. LOTS OF DYING. I kept getting booted outta parties cuz I had sucky gear but I FINALLY got into one and... we died. Mhm.
