I've been noticing this gun for quite a while, from what I can see, I have to stand still for about half a second when firing.
The damage is mediocre for the most part as I've heard. I just wanna know if this line is even worth getting.

Thanks,
Kris

:/

Currently, the gun is complete garbbage compare to blitz needle in terms of piercing damage and also lack luster comapre to valiance in terms of normal damage (if you are going for iron slug), the only saving grace for this gun is its ability to flinch an enemy, AKA, knocking them out of their combat animation.

Good news is, I think they are buffing the magnus line in the gunner update so who knows, they might get better.

Go for it. Trust me, it'll be worth it.

obligatory

This question has been asked in many threads. Try searching Google for something like magnus site:forums.spiralknights.com. Callahan is fun but not very effective. Iron Slug is reputedly even less effective. But the gunner update will have something to say, perhaps soon.

Thanks, Bopp. For more forum threads, I can't really seem to find much with the standard way of searching.

If you can get single-weapon switch shooting down, it's one of the most fun things ever. I made an iron slug yesterday and was having a bad time, then came across this video. I can now destroy enemies with amazing flinchlocking skills without causing any knockback or other harmful effects for my party. It's also really freaking cool.
First time I took it into lockdown as a recon I did the same amount of damage I usually do with striker/swords. That just tells you how noob-friendly it is, if you can learn it.

Example of how it is cool.

Spican is amazing :D

What do you prefer? Different people have different experiences. I can't swap, but the video gave me an ideo of how i'm going to set my controls.

I watched that video, and

I watched that video, and spent a good 20 minutes trying to get the trick down...I didn't have the best of luck, but it really doesn't seem like a very good trick anyway.

1) 4 keystrokes on alternate hands just for one firing action...seriously?
2) Two out of three useful fingers on your movement hand completely dedicated to swapping means your ability to actually move is heavily compromised.
3) Even the tiniest amount of latency means that the cycle gets broken, and since your fingers basically have to be running on autopilot for this to work at all, it hopelessly screws up your action in the game until you stop and start over.
4) Holy carpal tunnel, batman!

All that, and the increase in overall firing rate by avoiding the reload animation is miniscule at best.

carpal tunnel

switching takes practice, but with effort and repetition it'll feel natural.

*shrug* A simple

*shrug* A simple challenge:

Stand there for one minute doing nothing but hitting the fire button and see how many shots you get off.

Then go a minute using the weapon switch and see how many shots you get off.

Finally, go to the training room and do orbits around the arsenal station there and repeat both of the above while targeting the regenerating blast cubes in the north (even when they are unhittable because the arsenal is in the way).

See how much benefit it really provides.

Yes, four fingers for a single shot. You have ten fingers. simply using one to fire seems like a bit of a waste doesn't it?

Latency doesn't break it at all. All weapon swapping and attacking is completely clientside as far as I can tell, latency literally cannot mess it up unless it's moving from 4 bars to 1 and back again constantly.
A couple of days ago I was getting over 1000 ping to speedtest servers and had several seconds delay on all actions in spiral knights - I could still do weapon swapping like this.

As for movement, that just takes practice. You only need to use one finger to move in a direction, and a lot of the time you won't have to move at all since the iron slug will inturruptlock stuff you're shooting at and slowly move you back so you don't even have to evade since the enemy can't touch you. If you really need to move, you can break the cycle and start again somewhere else. Iron slug doesn't give you mobility when firing anyway so it's hardly a big deal for this thread.

I'm going to try testing it to see exactly how much benefit it provides. Might be a bit difficult though. Will post results here.

EDIT: Just read Bopp's post, I'm too tired right now. Never leave us Bopp, you're a life/timesaver

weapon switching

I'm all for gathering more data, but weapon switching has already been measured by various people. See for example Fradow's posts (especially post #29) in this thread:
