Question for you, While I wait.

One: How loose are those gauntlets?
Two: Is there any padding in them?
---
If the answers are (Any), and (No), Her hand will still hurt.

A lot.

Most times thos Gauntlets are designed to help deflect a sword blow by cushioning it. This means the Blow it's self is soffend to the point its still going to hurt, but not risk cutting off a finger.

The answer (Which I can't answer for) will more then likely be this, the Gauntlets are fitted, meaning very little wiggle room, and the padding inside will be there. So it will still hurt, but on the same side its not going to hurt as much as you think. (Worst case you hurt yourself leaving a mark.)

Well...

You've never punched sheet metal with a brass knuckle, have you? Well, this guy's armor isn't just flattened scrap. Sure, she won't damage her hand, but still, anyone not used to CQC is gonna feel a little sting, especially after a good slug to the skull.

All this over a punch o.O

Well, even though I don't know much about hand to hand combat, Violet has trained within it near close to her entire life. She punches a lot, so counting in the fact her main fighting style is hand to hand, I'm sure she would have specially equipped armour.

A lack of experience has led me astray, so let's get it clarified that her solid cobalt armour is customized to withstand the blows from hand to hand combat, and is designed to minimize the effects of the impacts to her hands.

Even so, her hands would have at least been hardened from all her experience in hand to hand combat. So the punch wouldn't have hurt her as much in the first place. Especially when you consider the kinds of things that you'd normally have to or be forced to punch, like your opponent's fists or a sand bag. Or the wall if you miss.

HOLD THE PHLIPPING PHONE HERE

Brain data? What? Where did you get this from? Did I not JUST SAY not to...

...I mean EVERYTHING when I'm telling you guys not to just make up stuff. You do realize that you haven't even bothered to ask questions or even take their equipment that might or might not have imprints on them, right?

Like Fiora said? You know, your commander? "Kill them, look for the transceiver, and collect their electronics."

Unless you REALLY, REALLY want to get your character jailed because s/he failed the THREE SIMPLE jobs he or she was assigned, you've guys got to be better than just doing what you want and hoping it's all fine with teh GM.

*sigh*

I keep on telling you guys, you can't just ASSUME the world the GM created works the way you want it to work. That's like trying to play an RTS with FPS controls; it just doesn't work. If the GM has NOT specified something, ask for it. Make your character examine, inspect, and give the GM signs of what you're looking for. Like, "Does [character name] remember something about where data is stored? What does [character] know about reviving in this world?"

Heck, this is EXACTLY WHY THIS THREAD EXISTS. To ask and get more knowledge of the world you're playing in. If you want to create your own world by your own rules, by all means, make a fanfict or host your own RP. But really, if you're going to make characters that inhabit the world the GM makes, then at least make them abide by the world's rules, and make them people that WOULD live in that specific world. If a soldier has no clear objectives, what good is it going to do to execute all the neutralized opposition? That's like a squirrel dumping its food stores into a river after it's eaten.

"Oh, but you didn't specify anything, so I get creative liberties hurhurhur..." <--- That is false. Kinda hate to break it to you, but most RPs are going to be run just like this way, in LARPing and other RP sites. Thin may allow you guys some leniency in here, but unless it's specifically specified as to what extent you guys are allowed to assume certain things, please don't try to break the boundaries. That's like making a Harry Potter fanfict and adding a character like Goku. It just wouldn't click.

"But it's no fun without our creative liberties :(" <--- It's also not very fun to watch a bunch of people god-mod themselves and essentially walk away from the initial objectives in the name of creativity and fun. After all, you guys made soldiers who follow orders and complete objectives, right?

Right...

That, and I'm also going to be absent for the entirety of next week. Already I'm seeing the story I helped build with Thin being frayed at its very beginning. ._.

I don't even know what to do anymore. I won't demand a redact, because that'd be a waste of time, but should I just roll along with what we have now then, and hash it out with Thin?

Okay, I will stop on the part where Saboteur bash the swordman to avoid auto-hit. I think that is fair.

A list of the things Saboteur could do.

-Throw flashbangs, blind enemies but not taking them out of actions for long.

-Throw stun grenades (Haze bombs), stun enemies and incapcitate them.

-Throw regular nitronomes, standard HE grenade equivelent

-Setting up trip wire traps and land mines

-Defuse explosives

-Deploy the 'apocalypse', a special bomb made by Saboteur himself, infusing a graviton vortex within a regular shard bomb. I will let you figure out how deadly it might be.

-(may be used as a last resort) Activates the remaining souls of Mezizas inside his heart, become a near indestructable obsidian berserker.

Thin's got a lot of reading ahead...

Haha, Violet just didn't care about the instructions, so of course she would walk away obliviously :D

That said, I completely understand, Vinny, after all, I did request for stronger GM control. I guess it's just really hard to coordinate what a player plans to do with where the plot is supposed to go.

Too many RPs are reduced to a "reply to this, walk around and reply to another person" loop. I bet it's difficult for everyone to reign up and restrain themselves from introducing anything, because then there wouldn't be much they can do.

However, asking questions in this thread to get a thorough understanding of things before leaping in will allow for greater expression (to as large as possible in an RP), it just requires constant GM monitoring :/

Compromise

I think I can clearly see both sides here. I and Vin are storytellers; we naturally incline toward making multiplayer fanfiction. We have stories in mind that we want to tell, and we get upset when that's messed up. On the other hand, the non-GM players want to be able to live vicariously through their characters. Heck, I do too! That's one of the most important joys of forum roleplaying! Take that away, and RPing becomes no fun at all.

The problem is, those two concepts are diametrically opposed to one another, inversely related. We can't have both. The nature of this RP demands a greater degree of story than game. But that's not the only problem. You know what's the biggest problem facing authors today? Take a wild guess.

Writer's block.

The reason is simple: they run out of ideas. Their creative juices dry up. RPs could, in theory, bypass the problem entirely by harnessing the creative juices of all the players. If you rely solely on the GM for your story, we're only taking advantage of just the one plauer's creativity. The result?

The RP dies.
Of writer's block.

So this is one of the few areas where I dissent with Vin. I'm not inclined to stifle creativity. HOWEVER, I also recognize that he isn't simply restricting freedom for the heck of it. There is a problem he wants to solve, and this is the best solution he knows. And frankly, it's simple, effective, and easy to implement. He's trying to reign in chaotic, destructive creativity, the sort that destroys stories and games just as easily as writer's block. When the story dissolves into irrational chaos or branches to alternate, unplanned storylines, you almost invariably run the game dry until everyone gets bored.

There will be no ending.
No conclusion.
Too many loose ends.
And most importantly, an unsatisfactory ending with unsatisfied players. Was not this one of Hexlash's primary complaints? Surely he was't the only one who felt that way? I don't think anyone here wants a story that never reaches a conclusion. It really hurts, I find. I still feel awful about never ending RtC2, and RtC:O's ending still doesn't feel right to this day.

This is how RPs harness creativity and find their happy ending: by harnessing player creativity to drive the intended story. This requires mature, selfless players who are willing to sacrifice anything, even the health and welfare of their own precious characters, to advance the story in the best way possible. We want players who think, dream and create for the sake of the story. This is why the rules against power playing and god modding exist. It's why character applications exist. We want you to help us make a good story.

My RP Condemned tried treading new ground here, harnessing player creativity to advance the plot. Only three of the five regular players were doing any freelance creating. And guess what? We're over 5 threads strong with more than 500 posts each, some with close to 1000. And the ending is still in sight! It's not drifting away aimlessly! If you're wondering why I kept talking about it here, that's why.

What can you do to help? You can start by controlling your creativity. I don't mean reduce; I mean control. Put it to good use. Bend your characters and their actions toward plots that lend themselves to good stories. Write them saying, doing, and feeling things that contribute to the overall story. Always seek to tell the greatest tale possible.

Because that's why you're here.

Alright I jumped the gun on assuming the Brain Data thing. It was a old though on how Revival worked when I was talking to Thinslayer one day. My guess about it must have left you confused based on what was described to me. If anything my goal was to make sure the downed enemies would stay down and not come back up.

As for waht Thin said, I am all for more then one person adding to a RP thats what makes it go round, feeding of one another to grow the RP and the idea's till there is this whole painted world.

But I will back off as much as I do.

There we go.

More of a simple comprimise.

Or. . . We could just say that we took data from not her brain, but the information inside her helm.
After all, This would both limit the amount we learn- And would also require being decrpyted, But both GM's and players would be happy.

However, Brain data also works. Remember that Ash was punched in the face? That may have mixed up some of the information, So any recieved data would be choppy, and near unusable, Besides the flashes of sight, and the very wierd sounding audio.
Also, You start losing memories once you don't revive for a certain amount of time.

Are both of these ideas satisfactory?

That sounds good.

Just like a real brain, extensive damage to the neurode (so yes, we now have revival chips, just under a different name) or to the wetware-suit (the one that all Knights wear underneath their armor) will corrupt data. I wouldn't add a decay rate to the revival chip, but things like dust and particles might make "recalling" more difficult.

In order to view the data from a neurode, someone has to re-experience the events. Trauma or things going by too quickly will be harder to identify, and massive brain damage might corrupt the integrity of a neurode, as they're placed towards the brain stem.

Recreation of a physical body is possible, but for your line of work, it may not be necessary.

Instead, installing the neurode into a custom-made intelligence aid slot (which will replace a gear slot) will upload the neurode's personality into the wetware suit. In addition, they may receive all the same sensations as the user, but cannot provide any output of information except for words. This was initially used by high-ranking Knights during the Morai Wars to have the predecessors of Intelligence Officers verify what the user sees. Now, however, it has sinc ebeen replaced by the Intelligence Officers, and used mainly for archaic types of interrogation at a much cheaper cost than reviving an individual or keeping them alive for extraction.

Officially, though, it is seen as a taboo to keep one, as the official laws demands the rights of a person's freedom and protection from "cruel and unusual punishments".

^Can this work then?

Darkwatck's picture
Darkwatck

Sounds alright, since it would require a Intelligence Officer to

A
-Revive the said chip in the right condition with aid of lab Techs (Because Bio-Engineering is rather hard to do unless your trying to get information)

B
-Just brain Data would be easy to extract considering your just getting Neural signatures instead of reviving the full body.

C
-If Revival of the body is needed the Chip would need to be kept in the hands of a Intelligence Officer for safe keeping which means that it would be responsibility of the team to keep an Intelligence Officer alive so they can revive there team. (Well that works in Sparks of Life)

D
-If the system does work and acts as a Lockout sort of program this means Soldier's would be less likely to stay behind cover and just run into battle dauntlessly. Which means you would need the Team's Acting Intelligence Officer's Key/Passwords/Overrides to access the Chips.

E
-The Wetware Suit would have to be custom made to the user of the time and/or would be required by all Knights to have backups incase of death. (This would also be a sign to other knights of the times they have "Died" in battle. Kinda like a metal of honor.)

F
-If the Program works correctly they need to make backups of each Chip before and after the mission. This would ensure that survival rate would be higher. (Or at least make sure people who go into battle don't die die unless the chips are broken)

G
-If the Chip is Destroyed, the Knight is Destroyed. Destroying a Revival Chip should be considered a 'Evil' but not Illegal thing. After all, your making sure the Knight can't come back to fight you again.

H
-Knights Chips only have X amount of uses, if you Die too many times you don't come back. (In other words Think of Lifes, you die too many times GAME OVER MAN. After all data does tend to get corrupted over time)

I
-Reanimation: To remake the mind and body it requires allot of energy regardless of where it comes from. So if your able to avoid needing a Revival chip to be used, the better.

J
-In the event a Chip is Destroyed/Damaged/Harmed/Data Corruption; The person the Chip was for is useless. (GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER!)

Now I could go on about the system's flaws which would make more since but at the same time I am just pitching idea's based on the tech the Knights have at there disposal. Obliviously using a Revival Chip is the last resort and most battle hardened Vets will chose to not keep one because they have seen war, and know its not something you want to be brought back into. Die with Honor. The Real downside is if the Chip/Wetware gets damage, if anything happens to this piece of Tech. then the whole thing is useless. Make one person Responsible for it and make sure you can trust them with your life, because in a since you are.
