Miracle Cloak Miracle?

I recently went through he trouble of making myself a Chaos set, and took it on a FSC run to test it a bit, and I love it already. Though I noticed something weird with it that I didn't actually expect:

While fighting a Trojan, I was getting absolutely wrecked by it, because I failed to dodge one of it's charges. As it hit me, I got stunned and had that weird bug where I couldn't move at all, and I had 5% health left. The trojan hit me again with his sword, and it made the damage sound, and my character exploded the health pips, but I took no damage at all. My shield was completely intact, so that didn't absorb the damage at all.

Does this tie in with the miracle "when the wearer needs it the most" on the description of the miracle cloak? Do they all do this? I have never noticed it before. Is it just something that everyone knows about and I didn't?

There is a small chance for every knight to ignore damage that would kill them wearing any armor.

I don't recall any threads that tried to determine exactly how it functions, but there have been multiple posts mentioning this happening.

gods ain't gonna help you, son.

actually, there was a youtube video explaining something. from what I can remember, the least defense /health you have, the more the chances of you surviving a fatal blow with 1 pip of health.

I can say that I've never

I can say that I've never experienced it until I equipped the Chaos Cloak. Beforehand, I was using Vog, so this is the first magic cloak item I've ever used.

Is it chance based? I always figured it was more deterministic, where you either were or were not killed in sonic mode, depending on if you had more than a couple health pips or not. I.E. "Sonic Mode"

About sonic mode

Here...

Edit: Sorry I hurt your feelings, Fezhor but you can do your own research, why not test it out and post it your own results then, if you're not happy with what's already known about it.

Since we're going to play this game, let me share with you what Google has brought to the table:

Someone notices the phenomenon. This tells us nothing more than what I asked to know about and already thought was happening, which was that sonic mode was deterministic etc.

The rest being various blogs from sega etc. about the game that don't pertain to the mechanics in question..

On the actual forums, the following are found, no obvious solutions to the question at hand:

http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/83529

So please. Explain to me how I am supposed to shake out the exact mechanics I am looking for before they have been researched and discussed. It is indeed, "that hard".

so far.. I noticed fire damage ignores sonic mode (tested). And probably, shock spasm bypass invicibilty, hence you take multiple of hits that eventually ignores sonic mode (not really tested since I am too sleepy/lazy, test scenario: shock mecha knight's leviathan-like charge attack, shock zombie's breath combined with other zombie's lunge, shock greavers all attacks at once)

yeah....

I've been doing a fair amount of damage testing and I've honestly thinking about throwing out any hit that takes you close to the break point. So far I it *seems* that this effect (sonic or whatever) seems to occur in both armor and shields which has been problematic for my work. For example WRT dragon scale (shield / armor) (pierce / ele def only) testing in FSC. I've noticed that 3 hits from a wheel (pure normal damage) should completely take it out. however when I get down to about 7% heath and the last wheel comes (which should kill me all things equal) and I end up with 2 - 3% health (when the last hit took nearly 50% of the health (rough numbers mind you)). Please note that I'm not coming close to death all the time and I'm not specifically looking for this effect -- I've just noticed it in testing. Granted; I'm personally trying to avoid the death blow because you cannot accurately read past 0 in life or defense (obviously) so I don't understand this phenomena either.

I have a few other goals in my testing like correlating shield to armor damage and quantifying status resistance, but if I get time I'll look into this too (though it isn't my priority)

Cheers

Hexzyle has done extensive research on this effect, but I only found this blog post that doesn't say very much.

It is more likely to occur the less max health you have. I don't know if exact numbers are around anywhere.

From what I've gathered, it's not chance-based at all. If it happens once from a certain attack at a certain amount of max health, it will happen every time.

Because I am happy with what I know about it, given that my sonic-moding has panned out perfectly so far. However, I would like to make sure I have my facts right so as to not just go about spreading lies without appropriate deliberation.

There is a small chance for every knight to ignore damage that would kill them wearing any armor.

From what I can remember, the least defense /health you have, the more the chances of you surviving a fatal blow with 1 pip of health

If Skeptic and Thunder had observed something different than the deterministic behavior that I have observed, then it would be very curious and I would like to know about it. Another thing is that researching Spiral Knights is a complete waste of time, with the exception of perhaps the loot system which intrigues me.
