I've been trying to install the game, but I keep on getting this error:

Error opening file for writing:
C:\Program Files\Three Rings Design\Spiral Knights\jRegistryKey.dll

I tried ignoring that file, but then when the game tries to launch, it just sits there
I've also tried download through the site, but it just sits there at launching as well, and I've even had a friend upload his jRegistryKey.dll for me, but that didn't work either.

I've also attempted to install it with the installer being in administrative, but neither did that.

Is there anything I can do? I don't want my friends invite to go to waste on me.

I'm also running Windows 7 if that matters.

Try toggling whatever

Try toggling whatever security suite program you have installed off while installing the game. It could be registering a false positive.

I have already tried

I have already tried that.
The error seems to be having to do with Windows 7, it does it to a lot of programs when trying to install them, but I have not found a way to fix it.

For the time being, I am playing on my alternate computer, so problem is half-way solved, I guess.

So Far

Attempted:

  • Security Suite toggle
  • Run as Admin
  • Different Install Type

You're the first Win 7 to post this problem. Most users are trouble free (including me). I'm guessing you've also done the shotgun approach of updating Java and Display Drivers? Is UAC enabled on your system? This seems to be unique to your computer's configuration.

Java updates itself

Java updates itself automatically, as well as me manually updating it sometimes, so yes, it's up to date.
Display drivers as well.
I disabled UAC a long time ago.

It also is not only affecting SK, it also has affected other installs, such as Fraps, with the difference being fraps.exe, instead of a .dll.

I would recommend enabling

I would recommend enabling UAC again, reboot and see if that does it, not just for SK.

So, I've totally re-install

So, I've totally re-install Windows 7 since I've been having problems with a LOT of programs, so I just decided to re-install.

I've had Java successfully install (It wouldn't after I uninstalled it before), and I get the game to download.
When I click on the shortcut, my screen flashes black for 5 seconds or so, Windows 7 turns to default Aero, and then a get an error saying it couldn't optimize the game's graphical display.

What should I do?

Double check your graphics

Double check your graphics driver is up to date real quick? Seeing default Aero show up is an intended behavior I think. Also, if a Windows install suddenly went square-ways on you there's a good chance there may be an underlying hardware issue.

I've gotten up to the Nvidia

I've gotten up to the Nvidia website, and the dxdiag earlier, and it say's that it's a Geforce 8600 GT, so I'm not exactly sure what I should be putting in for the series.

And the problem was with

And the problem was with Windows that Java wasn't installing after I uninstalled it, some applications weren't launching (denied access, some other problems etc.)
Everything is fine now, besides the SK problem.

Simply going ahead and

Simply going ahead and installing the most recently released drivers will likely solve the remaining SK problem. If you did not explicitly install graphics driver software after the Windows reinstall it could very well explain the "failed to optimize."

I was just wondering though,

I was just wondering though, completely out of left field, and I didn't know where to create a topic for it, but is it alright to have 2/multiple accounts?

Having legitimate multiple

Having legitimate multiple accounts on the same computer for different people (like on a family computer) is usually fine, though all free users will share the same Mist Energy pool. Here's an old thread where some of the account limitations you'll find that will likely apply. A single person using multiple accounts for anything other than bug-checking and Wiki tasks would be likely frowned upon, though at that point you've probably already got a greenlight from the Three Rings guys for your specific task.

Thanks, a friend and me

Thanks, a friend and me wanted to play with second accounts since the regeneration rate for Mist is so low and we still wanted to play, but I guess we won't be doing that then.
At least I won't.
