First of all, I would like to list the differences between the real Cradle and the one in my fanfic. This is my first fanfic for Spiral Knights, so it might start out a little shaky.
*1* There are no health capsules, but revives are possible. To be revived when dead, you must be hooked up to a machine familiar to the type of machine used to jumpstart one's heart during a heart attack, but this must be done within twenty-four hours of death. If the knight died from the loss of blood, lost limbs, or other gruesome deaths, this option will not be available, and the only way to save them is by use of magic, which only the great Owlites had (spoiler: There will be Owlites, and I will create them myself, since no Owlites are seen ingame).
*2* Haven is a sprawling metropolis on the light side of Cradle. The Auction House, Town Square, Arcade, and Garrison area will all be part of the industrial section, which is were the knights work and operate out of. There will be a full-scale armory in the Garrison, so all knights shall have free Spiral gear (Cobalt lines, including weapons). Other gear (Acherons, mist bombs, Chaos gear, Wolver gear, etc.) will be bought from special smiths in the Bazaar, where blacksmith knights make and sell weapons and armor. Lockdown and Blast Network will take place in a large arena similar to the Roman Coliseum. The maps will change by a giant robot that moves them from underground. The rest of Haven will be for the homes of both Stangers and civilian Spiral Knights.
*3* The Clockworks are a system of caves with a series of elevators going through them. The upper levels (Depth 3-13) will be inhabited by Gremlins and their Construct minions. The lower levels, (Depth 14-28) will be inhabited by the deadliest of undead and fiends. Many call it the Underworld, because of the devilish and dead inhabitants. Depth 1 and 2, the Surface Levels, and the surface of the planet itself, are inhabited by beasts, including Wolvers, Chromalisks, and Snarbolaxes. Rabies DOES spread through the packs, so some will be rabid, and there are certain shots carried by medics to cure the disease. Slimes will be found near volcanic vents on the surface, but I doubt that I will end up including them.
*4* Another difference is that gear will work differently. Damage types will not affect different monsters differently. Weapons can be set to stun mode for Lockdown and Blast Network, and for capturing Gremlins or enemy Knights. Also, there will be NO costumes, because costumes like Chapeaus, Storm gear, and other things will count as armor, and I shall determine the strengths of various armors/costumes as the story goes on. Wings do not exist, but tails do!
*5* Guilds will work differently. There will be a few guilds, and war will be waged between them, but nothing about their names is certain yet.
*6* Finally, I have one more difference. Spiral Knights will be humans, with normal hair, eyes (although glow eyes will still apply), and skin.

Alrighty! Time to explain my rolecasting. I want both "good-guy" Knights, "bad-guy" Knights, and the same for Gremlins. This is the format I expect.

Name:

Species:

Gender:

Age (optional, I might just set it if you don't want to):

Bio/History:

Personality:

Look (includes facial look, hair, eyes, which can be every personal color, armor, accessories, shield, and weapons):

And lastly... Anything else! (I will make no promises to keep them alive. Anyone may die at any time, and I'm more than willing to kill off a few characters, especially if I end up not liking them in the story :P):

The 4 (or so) main characters I have already planned out, and the main antagonist, but I need other side "problems." :P Well, more like other antagonists. I hope you enjoy, and post a character!

The sequel can be found here: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/109234

Hmm...

I was hoping for a specifically GREMLIN main antagonist, but I created one, Xerxes (yes, the ancient Persian King). Although I might just use Dini as a side "problem." There is certain something I can use with Dini and the main character, who will have some... History with the Underworld (Dini's home, I'd assume, since he qualifies as Undead). Oh, and Dini won't get to be on any of the two sides, which will be fun. Personally, I think he will be a little nasty mischief causer (like someone who wants to kill anyone and everyone).

A Wolver's Purpose

Name: Lokd

Species: Gremlin

Gender: Male

Age: 30 (in Gremlin's equivalent?)

Bio/History: Lokd has always admired Punch and Vise's workmanship and cooperation with the Spiral Knights, right in Haven. Though he tried and even acquired training, it was very apparent that he lacked the skill to ever succeed in blacksmithing. However, he is still determined to go on, not bothering to pursue any other goal.

Personality: Determined, and blinded by the goodness in others. When he has a goal in mind, he will accomplish it, assuring everyone and himself the importance of that goal along the way.

Look: Bedraggled, with his goggles titled, so that they only cover one eye.

(I wanted to make a Wolver, but seeing as they are not accepted.)

Hello! You look in need of an app!

Name: Mark-Ls5

Species: Construcy

Gender: He AI

Age: (pick)

Bio/History: Mark-Ls5 was constructed for long range scouting tactics. He has preprogrammed situational solutions for every contingency in his field (scouting/sniper) His mission success rate is 81% and he can tell you that himself. Later, he had an Artificial Intelligence prototype microchip implanted and he is able to think for himself. This allows him to make on the spot decisions and operate more effectively.

Personality: With the added AI Microchip, Mark developed a little personality. Not much though.

((Do you have an intel agent already made? If not I'll make another app for the knight's side.
Look:

Mark-Ls5 looks like a mecha knight with a retrode head. In reality, the armor is multiple times stronger and more reinforced than mecha knight armor, and his specialized optics are well suited for observing long distances away. Main armor plating is camouflaged and capable of changing colors, but not the exposed parts nor the dull blue glow that emits from his optical lens.

Mark carries a Long range Heavy Sniper Rifle and he is capable of shooting accurately almost a mile away (.07), other than that his carries a small rapid fire pistol with a bayonet, it was modeled after the Spiral Knight's Valiance.

On his shift arm, a collapsible riot shield sits in a rectangular slot, will not last a long time under fire, functions as a melee deflector.

2 Things

#1 I'm taking the assumption that Lokd is on the Knight's side, right? Well, the "good-guys" side, for lack of better term.
#2 Both Lokd and Mark-LS5 are accepted.
#3 Okay, I said two, but whatevs. /shrug I might be tweaking the characters around a little bit, so don't freak out or whatever.
#4 I'll have the prologue and at LEAST one chapter done by Sunday (I do have a life, and information to collect).
#5 Whoops, had to edit. No, Colray, I do not have an intel agent yet.
I hope to see some more knight apps! I do need to have a small guild worth of knights, but I won't mention most of them, and I'll make some, but I need a traitor or two!

Hm...

[done!]

Name: Ava "der Ärztin / "der Suchende"; no surname given.

Species : Gremlin

Gender : Female

Age : 27

Bio/History:

Once a former member of the Ghostmane Stalkers, Ava had shifted her interests to a more pacifistic role after her failure to kill Feron in the Crimson Hammer incident (she was the one who had wounded him in the ambush, though reinforcements had chased her away). After successfully evading Seerus' outbursts of anger, she enlisted to become part of the Darkfang Mender division. Herex, after noticing her interests in the more...anatomical fields, had instead intercepted her request and diverted her enlistment to becoming one of "Der Suchende" : The Seekers. Using an array of both life-saving and pain-giving chemicals, der Suchende seek to extract vital information and resources with deception and manipulation of the enemies themselves. Without wanton destruction.

Just as she had done so as a Ghostmane, Ava became overwhelmingly efficient at her line of work. In fact, countless would-be dead allies and prisoners have attributed their lives to her saving hands, and as such, she has garnered another title among the ranks of other Gremlins and POWs : der Ärztin.

Herex had made the right choice, and rewarded her with a decrease in independence.

He just had to have her. She, a pacifist and lover of life by nature, would've been his perfect compliment to his brutal, venomous lust for knowledge and blood. No wonder Seerus had enlisted the likes of her.

It was at this precise point, though, that she had finally initiated her escape from the Great Colony. Using her past knowledge as a Ghostmane for stealth, as well as the newfound knowledge gained from various POWs and interrogations, Ava had amassed enough information to bypass guard shifts, passwords, sequences, and traps that were set specifically to deter just her.

Now, though, she works as an independent subsidiary of Tinkinzar, though her sympathetic ideals towards the Spiral Order and the other factions has lead to an increasingly unstable alliance. However, she does not falter from her seeking of knowledge; if she has good reason, she will make those she finds valuable indebted to her in one way or another : blackmail, favors, trade of information, etc. She maintains her discretion by constantly wandering throughout the Clockworks, striking deals with Devilites and Strangers alike to keep her information network updated and ready for her utilization.

How she came to this point, prior to her acceptance into Herex's forces, though, were yet to be told. [Actually, I'll stick this in later when I have the time.]

Personality:

As any conventional doctor, Ava finds herself a lover of life. While she isn't necessarily kind to those she has no history with, she has a sort of respect forged by silent assistance. This makes her difficult to approach if one has no business with her. Even attempting to cross her, though, will warrant no danger of death; she simply doesn't have the heart to kill any more.

Even to those who seem to know her, though, she is everything but closer. In fact, she prefers a borderline-hostile relationship with members of the Crimson Order or Tinkinzar's direct subordinates. This can be attributed to the years she spent learning from Seerus how to be unbreakable...untouchable.

Herex, however, taught her all about deceit. She makes for an unexpectedly great actress, being able to cast roles from starving Emberlight refugees to a harshness with the spite of Seerus and the sting of Herex. With this, she easily slips in between enemy lines, a foolproof infiltrator against those of her kind and those of not.

At heart, though, to none except herself (as of the beginning of the story), Ava is really a child inside. One to rarely, if ever lose her hope, her fear of losing all that she has is synonymous to losing all she had loved...before it was stripped away from her. Those who can see through her ruses should find themselves a scarred child in need of a parent, regardless if it's clad in Cobalt or fur.

Appearances :

Unique to many other Gremlins, Ava has a sort of periwinkle tone to her fur. Whether this was an intended design by some dubious geneticist or a miracle of nature is unknown, but nevertheless, the few who are able to see her without her Ghostman attire often speculate among their peers. Some call it a beautiful mistake, others dub her fur color "every part disastrous as she is on the inside". It matters not, since she usually keeps herself wrapped up. Her clothing lacks the insignia of the Ghostmanes, though she still employs their weaponry and technology, such as cloaking and the sawblades. She wears a purple scarf, as opposed to a red scarf, as a personal symbol for her desire to be a Darkfang Mender...an impossible dream, given her current standings. When she isn't using the sawblades, she has an array of chemicals for her to inflict damage to both life and death; that is, she has the tools to both save and kill. Luckily, for almost all of her adversaries, life is the more desirable option.

Physically, she stands at a short 4'10, standard for Gremlin females, and weighs a slight 85 pounds...without equipment.

Kaval Uribor, Necromancer Knight.

Name: Kaval

Species: Knight (Bad)

Gender: Male

Age (optional, I might just set it if you don't want to): Elderly, 70ish?

Bio/History: Kaval was stationed as apart of Team Omega, to scout out the graves and similar areas representing shadowy activity. Upon one mission, he got seperated from his squad, and found himself lost within a concrete jungle. Using his knightly training, he managed to stay alive until he could find a way off the level and find a safe way back to Haven. That time never came.

During his stay on the level, he found odd totems, using odd powers to re-animate the fallen dead that he had attempted to slay for his own well-being. Not having anything better to do with his time, he decided to study the odd sculptures, and bring back a report when he got out. If he got out. After hauling back the totem, he attempted to break open it to see what was inside. A dark pulse forced him away, pushing him into a wall. It seemed like it would be a harder task than was originally planned.

Eventually, after devising a technique to open up the totem using his own CE to stem the energy flow, he managed to discover what was inside. An odd energy form, tainted in appearance, eminating from the core of the totem. Lost in the discovery, the energies began to mix, and flow back within the knight. Before the realisation of it all, it was too late, and the life energy of the knight had infused with the totem's re-animation energies. Creating a Violet light to shine from his armour, as the purple and cobalt infused.

Hours passed until he awoke, not dead, but feeling healthier than ever. He stretched his arms, and found them to be working, as was everything else on his person. Looking up he found a dust zombie looming over him. Not attacking, but instead curious of the energies that he pertained. The familiar and sooting totem's, and the odd cobalt. After a while of gazing, it saundered off into the wastes. Kaval looked at his hands, wondering what he was capable of with these odd energies. He studied a bit more, trial & error experiments with this new energy within, eventually he was able to re-animate a plant, sharing some of his energy. But his energy was limited, he needed something to recharge. Then it hit him, the other totems.

Years passed from that point, absorbing totemic energies, even fashioning a staff with which to aid in re-animation of others. Thanks to the tainted energies constantly playing with his body, he aged alot slower than he should have done, and began to grow alot more secluded and dangerous. He's reanimated Dust Zombies, Kats, even tried to input some of the energies into downed constructs, resulting in an odd form of retroid. He wanders the various under-levels, pacing through the dark cities and graves as a usual guest, far from his old forgotten life as a knight, and at home with his new Undead "Children".

Personality: Wise or Crazy, speaks in riddles, tempremental, dangerous, edgy.

Look (includes facial look, hair, eyes, which can be every personal color, armor, accessories, shield, and weapons): A long tattered robe, with a concealing hood, underneath is worn Aegis armour, A single purple light eminates from under the hood from where his left eye would be, a white/grey beard hangs down from underneath. He has a staff with a miniature totem atop of it. In the other hand, he holds a dusk zombie skull.

Prologue!

OOC: Kaval Uribor has been accept, and Ava Ärztin will most likely be accepted, when the looks and personality are done. Also, Kaval will be altered slightly, and shall have a certain ghostly friend *wink wink*. Also: I am still rolecasting! You're not too late! And now the prologue.... BEGINS

Prologue:

For Lieutenant Feron, the day had gone quite normally. He had recorded the names of all knights entering and leaving Haven's southern gate. Most of them had returned, for it was almost dusk.

Three months beforehand, Feron's back had been broken in an accident in the Clockworks. Fortunately, the Spiral Medics were able to save his life, but he was disabled, for he could not move or feel his legs. Since he knew almost every knight in the Haven region, he was assigned the position of watchman of Haven's southern entrance.

Feron thought nothing of it when a small band of knights came sprinting into Haven, scared. They did not tell him their names, but Feron knew who they were, and typed them into the computer anyway. The knights were children, and couldn't have been older than ten. They did not have official Spiral armor or weaponry, but many children would wander quite far from Haven. Feron had assumed that these children had encountered a wolver or another type of beast that inhabited the surface.

Fifteen minutes went by without a soul coming in or going out of Haven. It was seven forty-three, and Feron would return to his home at eight o'clock. His job was boring, and he could not wait for that long. Everyone that had left Haven and said that they would return by dark had returned. No one could possibly be coming into Haven.

Which is why what he saw next surprised him.

A lean figure of six foot five was approaching. He had a chapeau with a brilliant green feather, and dirty, worn Azure Guardian Armor. Over the armor was draped a net with leaves sewn onto it for camouflage. The strange figure had blonde hair, barely visible beneath the chapeau. He could not have been more that twenty years old. The knight's most striking aspect was his eye. His right eye had been sliced, and had a small eyepatch over it. His other eye was glowing, so Feron deduced that the man had been born blind and had been given a synthetic eye.

When the figure saw him, he walked up to Feron's table. The man glanced over the table and saw Feron's jetchair. Jetchairs were hovercraft given to the disable and could be piloted around. The man said, "Lieutenant Feron, you have been injured, eh? And now you are working this boring job... Bah! That's not what I expected..."

The man turned away, and Feron thought he recognized him. His face was oddly familiar, and the man obviously knew him. "Would you mind telling me your name, sir?" Feron asked.

"My name is Mono. I despise most living creatures. I am nice to my friends, and a good deal of my enemies are six feet under," Mono replied, in a calm voice. He then turned around and strolled into Haven with a grin. It was an evil grin, but not of one committing evil.

Wait is Dini Kaval's friend?

One edit about Dini. he teleports incredibly quickly and uses quick slashes. If he can't teleport, he will hide. Nice prologue!

app #2

Name: Eve Corvin

Species: Knight

Gender: Female

Age (optional, I might just set it if you don't want to): 18

Bio/History: Eve serves as an Intel agent, giving info to knights in the field from base. She grew up normally, but when an attack on haven happened, the little girl climbed up a wall to see the battle, and ended up saving a knight because she shouted a warning. Taking this experience as a sign, Eve started training as an Intel Agent. She is highly experienced with computers and relaying information to knights, she is capable of hacking into different technologies, but it isn't her strong suite. Her only knowledge of combat is how to aim and shoot a gun, and swing a sword.

Personality: Optimistic and determined, she has to be when communicating to her comrades. A pessimistic intel agent won't do a squad any good. She knows protocol and doesn't hesitate follow orders, however she isn't bound by them. During a fight her usually carefree chatter becomes instantaneous and efficient.

Look: Eve has short blonde hair, and Viridian Eyes. Wears Padded Armor and Cap(gunner update armor 1*) as it is light and comfortable. She doesn't usually carry a shield, but she owns the standard defender. As for weapons, her gear is restricted to cobalt line, as she usually isn't out in the field. She carries her blaster with her at all times, but only sometimes carries her calibur when she feels she might need it.

APP COMPLETED

Name: Ven Kumonai

Species: Knight/Cyborg (See Bio)

Gender: Male

Age: 12 or 14, I'll leave you to decide.

Bio/History:
Ven is a young knight who is still undergoing training, but an event occurred early on in his life which caused him to be quite... Different. His appearance, namely, is quite unique. On record, when he was 3-4 years of age, his parents -- both spiral technicians -- left him too close to an experimental generator which malfunctioned and experienced a short meltdown. Followed by an explosion. Both parents were killed within the blast, and the damage caused major damage to both of Ven's arms and legs, as well as head. To be specific, the mentioned limbs were completely cut off. Various parts of his abdomen were also cut through. Fortunately, however, a potent energy which had materialized within the generator kept him alive despite his decapitation -- and due to the incident taking place in a well-equipped laboratory, medics were soon on the scene, and managed to keep Ven alive despite his condition.
Parts of his body were recovered, and are still genetic, namely his abdomen (parts of which, including the heart, are cybernetic), left arm (up to the elbow), and right leg (halfway down the thigh). Other than that, there is his head.
All other parts of his body were manufactured using state of the art components (whether out of pity for his condition, or recognition to the discoveries his parents made is unknown), which allow his "new limbs" to act just like regular ones. They grow as normal, and react as normal -- the only difference is that the bones and nerves are made of parts which would be more at home on a space shuttle than a knight.
Pain adaptations were induced into his nervous system during the initial surgery, and have since continued to manifest themselves regardless of whether he gains other pain-killers, this allows him to have a higher pain tolerance (as to cope with any surgical maneuvers needed to be made on his body in the future).
The generator's energy still fuels his artificial parts, and a completed version of the generator his parents had been working on was implanted into his body as not only a fuel provider for his mechanical parts, but also as a heart for his biological ones.
Ven was integrated back into training when he reached 9 years of age, and due to his mental prowess and skill with the blade, he is now back up to speed with all schooling needed for his age -- and perhaps more.

Personality:
Ven is a clown, through and through. He loves making jokes and keeping things positive for everyone around him. This sometimes gives him the label of being "immature" to others, which is a label he accepts willingly. In times when it truly counts, he can be quite serious, stern even, and his perception of others is hard to fool. That is to say, masking one's emotions doesn't work well against Ven.

Look:
Ven is 5'5" with a tanned complexion and a child-like face. The manufactured parts of his skin has a sleight data-weave if one looks closely at it, but other than that, it would be impossible to tell whether or not the limbs were real or fake. His hair is a blueish silver. His Sclera (the white part of the eye) on both eyes are completely black, due to being artificial, but his Iris is a faintly glowing icy-blue.
Ven uses the Solid Cobalt set -- standard issue for knights of his grade. He wields no shield, but instead dual wields an enlarged and Cobalt-themed version of the Silent Nightblade, with its sheath being on his back instead of his side.
Sleight modifications to his feet give him the equivalent of silver Ankle Boosters, and he usually keeps a black Vitakit -- which doubles as a regular backpack for carrying school supplies -- on his back.

Anything else:
Ven uses a two-handed katana style of attacking, and is very enthusiastic about combat. The longer combat goes on, the more energy the generator within him is used, and the more power he gains -- if the generator begins to overheat, however, Ven will be left prone to attacks. He's quick on his feet, due to his size and weight ( which is a bit lower than average despite his mechanical parts), and almost as quick with his wits.
His voice sounds similar to Kagamine Len's due to his Vocal Chords being mechanical.
Rumor has it that the Chairmen of the academy plans on elevating Ven into even higher grades due to his current performance, so it shouldn't be too long until he graduates, despite his age.
Ven sometimes uses lewd humor, which is excused due to his child-like appearance.

New Characters!

Okay, Ember, Ven has been accepted, and we have a new character that Ran-Sack Steam'd me. Here he is: Name: Ryker

Species: Knight (neutral)

Gender: Male

Age: Young adult (late twenties/early thirties)

Backstory: Some knights are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon them. Ryker was always more “none of the above.” He’s a respectable fighter, and very good at what he does, but he’s not exactly protagonist material. Ever since he enlisted in the Spiral Order, he showed an interest in machinery, specifically in taking it apart. After completing basic training, he apprenticed with several technicians to learn how to put it back together. He was never popular, but he was dependable. If he was given a job (and if he agreed with it) it got done, and it got done well. Eventually, he started venturing into the clockworks, where he discovered hordes of sentient constructs that he could put his formerly underutilized talents for disassembly to good use on. He started going down often, and put whatever parts he could scavenge from his enemies remains to good use in Haven. After this went on for a while, Spiral Command made his voluntary transition to Field tech official.

Personality: Ryker doesn’t really like anybody, and the feeling is mutual. He has a constant air about him of someone who’s forced to work with people he wouldn’t be friends with. He’s not really mean-spirited, just… easily annoyed. He doesn’t go out of his way to make life miserable for anyone, and he tries hard to be respectful even when he doesn’t think someone deserves it. He’s really more at home around machines than people, honestly. He definitely interacts with them a lot better. Ryker genuinely enjoys his role as a technician, even though constantly having to patch up other people’s mistakes really gets on his nerves from time to time. He takes great pride in a job well done, whether that job be repairing turrets on Haven’s borders, or pounding unfortunate constructs into sheet metal. He’s an overworked, somewhat cynical, but basically okay guy whose day is perpetually ruined by having to fix what everyone else broke.

Appearance: Young adult human male, semi-short dark brown hair, blue eyes. 6 feet, 2 inches tall. Has permanent 5 o’clock shadow. Wears warden armor with a munitions pack strapped to the back, with rockets poking out and an ammunitions belt hanging out of the top, as well as several bullets and grenades strapped to the sides. Has a scabbard on his left hip. Wears a field cap with a headlamp, com unit, and targeting module. Only his left eye is visible, since the right is covered by the targeting module. All armor and accessories are military in color. Has a green Hacked Aura. (could maybe function as an energy shield or HUD?)

Weaponry: Polaris rifle (used mainly on constructs and undead), Divine Avenger.

Thank you, Ranny! :D And Colray, you can call me Carbon, or Monoxide, or both. :P

Chaper One is OUT!

Chapter One: Reminiscence

When Mono was walking through the streets of Haven, it appeared to be a normal day, but he knew, somewhere, three friends were reminiscing about bygone days.

!#-^*^-#!

When Mono was born, he was blind. His eyes were replaced with synthetic eyes, made of a carbon compound. His name, Carbon, was given to him by his friends because of his eyes.

When he was four years old, he met three knights of his age. None of them knew each other, and had just met. Their names were Pop, for his love of soda, Grub, because his favorite food was maggot, and Alisa, whose name had been given by her parents. Carbon became very attached to them, and would die for them. Over the years, until they were thirteen, the friends gathered more friends. When they were recruited, they requested to be a special squad of eighteen.

Their squad was named “Warriors of Old,” because they had known each other for so many years. After three years of intense training, both mental and physical, the Warriors of Old had one more mission to complete before they became vanguards. The squad was feeling optimistic, except for a young knight named Theta.

Theta believed that the mission would fail, but he did not know why. The others ignored his worries, and remained confident.

Theta’s worries turned true.

When the elevator was descending into the Clockworks, a gigantic cave system, the elevator unexpectedly picked up speed. The squad’s mission was supposed to be carried out at Depth 19, but the elevator zipped past the stopping point.

Theta was even more worried, for something had gone wrong. The elevator then crashed into the ground at Depth 28, the deepest they could go. The Warriors of Old were deep within the Underworld.

As fiends and the undead found them, a great battle ensued. All of the Warriors of Old were slaughtered as the battle went on, except Carbon, Pop, Grub, Alisa, Epsilon, and Theta.

Theta, Epsilon, and Carbon had been wounded. Carbon’s left arm had been badly sliced, and Theta and Epsilon had large wounds in their chests and legs. Carbon was still able to function, but could not fight.

The surviving knights dug a dozen graves for the fallen comrades, and lade them to rest in proper Isoran fashion.

Grub, Pop, and Alisa worked on the elevator, attempting to fix it. Carbon tried to help heal Epsilon and Theta, as the squad’s medic had fallen to a Trojan. Four hours after the battle, both Epsilon and Theta passed away.

The survivors then laid them to rest, and continued to work on the elevator. Unfortunately, Carbon was unable to help with the repair efforts. During the repair process, the elevator suddenly started working again, but it went straight to the surface, carrying Grub, Pop, and Alisa away from Carbon.

Carbon knew that if he stayed, the Spiral Order would send a rescue team. If the team was too late, though, he would be easy prey for the undead and the fiendish inhabitants of the Underworld.

Armed with only a Barbarous Thorn Blade, a matching shield, and a small bag of medical supplies, Carbon headed out into the Clockworks, with one goal: to get to the surface.

Dang nabbit.

I actually wrote out a bit of criticism to post, then SK logged me out when I hit "preview" for whatever reason and the whole thing was lost.
Jimmy status = Rustled

I'll paraphrase what I said:

The previous chapter was a reminiscence, so its vague style suits it well. It doesn't have to be too detailed, and it doesn't need direct quotes from the past -- as to save time but also put a more "thinking-back" feel to the chapter; which is good because it is, as I said, a reminiscence.

Because it's a reminiscence, there was no need to say anything about the other 13 unnamed knights, and giving two of the non-original friends names (Theta and Epsilon) gives the feel of "the other knights had names; but remember, this is a reminiscence, so I'm not going to name them all out for you." The mention of their existence was enough, and even helped add to the fact that this was, in fact, Carbon looking back on an experience he had in the past.

Because this chapter is likely a prelude to a more events which occurred in the past, it's hard to write much criticism on it specifically (because it's not the main part) -- but there're my views on Chapter 1. Well... The original write-up was longer... But... I don't have the time, now.

Stupid forums, logging me out. >:c

Character Tryout!

Name: Jacques

Species: Slime

Age: 3

Gender Technically, none. But prefers to be referred to as a male

Bio: Jacques was a small slime, and had always been. Ever since his mother gave birth to him, Jacques had been different. He wasn't quite a mini, yet wasn't quite a full cube. He wasn't unstable, normal, icy, or royal. You see, Jacques was a Rock Jelly, with no rock. Every day he was picked on by everyone, even the polyps... THE FREAKIN POLYPS! But the Core gave mercy to Jacques, for he had something different from all the other slimes, he could morph into different shapes, especially that of a knight. One day he ran from home, but when he heard knights coming, he morphed into the shape of a young child, as his gel changed to skin, he grew hair, he could morph into anything he pleased. The knights took this "child" back to haven and gave him some clothes. He has lived there with the kids ever since, hiding his true identity, trying to fit in, wanting revenge on those who hated him at home.

Personality: Jacques is very kind to anyone he meets. He despises other slimes and has a what the knights call, a chronic fear of beasts (he just doesn't want to be eaten, and beasts can smell through his disguise).

Look: Whatever he wants. He wears a small set of cobalt armor with no helmet. When he is a knight he prefers to have a dark skin tone with black hair, he keeps a blue streak and a pink streak in it to remember his father and mother. His eyes are a cold stone grey, the only hole in his disguise.

Equipment: Jacques uses weapons of his own "creation" when he goes out on excursions. He will sometimes fight as a wolver or a devilite overtimer, but when he fights as a knight he uses a flourish that is part of his hand, made of a slime spike. on a flourish like base made of rock jelly, he uses a rock jelly shield. (Also made of him.)

Second Chapter! Woohoo!

Chapter Two: The Vent

After two years, Carbon had finally made it to the surface of Cradle. On his journey, he had lost his right eye to a devilite’s pitchfork, and changed his name to Mono. When he arrived on the surface, he was thousands of miles from Haven.

Mono surfaced near a volcanic area, with lava oozing from the ground. Nearby was a large compound, whose walls were made of steel. Mono approached the compound, and learned of a group of knights, the Darkwalkers, who worked in the facility.

The Darkwalkers did not own the compound, however. They were servants of the gremlin leader Xerxes. Xerxes and his scientists were developing a substance, that, when exposed to oxygen, would burst into flame. This substance was called Compound 01 Xerxes, for it was his first discovery.

Mono had discovered this information from a week of spying on Xerxes’ facility. He also learned that, in two years, Compound 01 would be perfected, and used to destroy Haven, and the Spiral Order. Mono also found out that the Darkwalkers still lived in Haven, but traveled to the facility to provide information, and scheme.

It had taken Mono two years of wandering in the Clockworks to reach the surface, and he knew if he was going to get from there to Haven, and back, he would have to depart immediately.

Mono took the least likely route back to Haven. His plan was to find Grub, Pop, and Alisa and lead a small band of knights back to the facility to annihilate Xerxes and the Darkwalkers. If Feron, Ozlo, or Vaelyn got involved, the Spiral Order was likely to be destroyed.

!#-^*^-#!

It took Mono an hour to find the Arsenal of the Spiral Order. The entrance was in the Garrison, a large courtyard with a lower area on the southern end. Above this area was a sandstone bridge, ornately carved with griffins and other mystical beasts. Mono and his friends had spent many hours there, but they had an even better spot.

When he entered the Arsenal, he noticed the racks of polished Caliburs and Leviathans. Near the swords were Blasters and Valiances, the signature handguns of the Spiral Order. On stands were beautiful sets of Cobalt Armor, each polished and shined to perfection. In crates on the border of the magnificent hall were Blast Bombs and Nitronomes.

Although Mono used to drool over the high-ranked weaponry, he had no time for that today. It was the second Sunday of May. His friends had designated the second and fourth Sundays of every month to time in the Arsenal. When they were older, they found that admiring weapons had gotten old, and Epsilon decided to hack the ventilation system.

Epsilon had figured out a way to get into the ventilation system, and therefore to the room where the fans and furnaces were. This room was the official meeting place for the Warriors of Old. Epsilon had taught everyone how to hack it, so they could get in whenever they wanted to.

Mono knew that his lost friends would be in the room. He quickly found a computer, and opened one of the vents. After hacking into the part of the control system, he opened the vent.

Mono then crawled into it the tunnel. He heard voices at the end of the tunnel, and partially closed his left eye, in the hopes that the people would not see the light.

The voices were definitely those of his friends, and his heartrate increased. They were talking about him. Alisa moaned, tearing her light purple hair, “Ohh… I wish Carbon was here, and not rotting somewhere in the Underworld!”

“We all feel the same,” Pop commented. His blue eyes drooped to the floor, in silent sorrow.

Grub gave a little grunt, and looked into the vent. He had seen the light from Mono’s eye. “Hey, what’s that?” he asked.

The three of them drew their weapons. Grub and Alisa were in fighting stances with their swords, a Barbarous Thorn Blade and a Leviathan, and Pop stuck his Argent Peacemaker into the vent. “Whoever you are, show yourself or die.”

Third Chapter! Wooooo!

Chapter 3: The Plan

Mono was used to being in mortal peril. In recent times, it had become a habit, and most of the time he knew how to react.

Mono stared into the barrel of the Argent Peacemaker for a few seconds, then, in one motion, grabbed the gun and used it to thrust himself into the room. He landed on two feet, and yelled, “What do you think you’re doing?!”

Alisa, Grub, and Pop screamed with joy, “CARBON!!!”

Mono spread his lips in a large grin, and said, “I am no longer Carbon. My name is Mono.”

His friends gazed at him incredulously, as they realized his right eye had been slashed, with an eyepatch over it. Alisa pulled up a chair, and Mono noticed that she had a tail. It was purple, the same shade as her eyes. The tail seemed to have wires that connected to under her armor. Mono had heard of these tails; they monitored the wearer’s heart-rate and wagged accordingly.

Mono inquired about it and his theory was correct. After explaining it, she said, “But I’m still jealous of Pop. He has jet boosters on his ankles and shoulders, so he can fly, but only for a short time…”

Pop then showed Mono what she was talking about, and Mono was amazed. Pop had dark blue, almost black, hair underneath his blue crescent-style helm. His armor was similar to a chef’s coat protected with metal and painted blue.

Grub was wearing his old Snarbolax armor, which obscured his head. He had a Gran Faust over his back, and a Barbarous Thorn Blade sheathed in his belt.

“So… Where on Cradle have you been?!” Grub demanded. “We thought you were dead!”

After they sat down, Mono gave a brief account of his journey from the Underworld to Haven, and informed them of Compound 01 Xerxes and the Darkwalkers. Pop was especially horrified when Mono explained who the Darkwalkers were.

Mono then told them that they would need to travel to Xerxes’ facility, with a large group of knights, and eliminate the Darkwalkers and Xerxes. Confused, Alisa asked, “Why don’t we tell Feron or another Spiral official?”

Mono knew someone would ask that question, and had prepared an answer. “If Feron brings half the Spiral Order to exterminate Xerxes, Haven will be attacked, and most likely destroyed, by Herex or Seerus. He would bring five thousand knights, and I plan on bringing under a hundred.”

“You’re out of your mind!” Pop exclaimed. “We’ll be slaughtered!”

“Not if we play our cards right, we won’t,” Mono said. “If we charged the facility, it would be a slaughter. Their turrets would gun us down, one by one. I plan on blasting through the facility’s defenses from the inside.”

“We aren’t all recons like me,” Alisa commented.

“I understand that well,” Mono said, “Which is why I am going to have you give basic recon training to half of the force that we recruit. They will need cloaks, so we must borrow a few from the Arsenal, but there are enough there for the taking.”

“It’ll be risky… But it might work,” Grub said, and the others trusted his word because he was the squad’s tactician.

“Do you know anyone who would join us?” Mono asked. “Any squadmates? You must have a fourth knight in your squad.”

“We do… Her name is Eve Corvin. She is our intel agent but is also a year younger. Her squad was slaughtered in their Vanguard mission too, in the same year as ours,” Pop informed.

“She’s good with computers, too,” Grub said. “Maybe we could get into the facility and use the computers to power down the outer defenses. On foot it’ll be easier to take the facility.”

“I think you may be on to something, Grub,” Alisa commented.

“Hmm… If we do that, she’ll have to go with you, Alisa,” Mono pointed out. “The two of you will have to enter the compound alone, power down the defenses, and retreat without being caught.”

“If you’re a gremlin, and your defenses are powered down, what are you going to do?” Grub asked, rhetorically. “They’re going to go to the control room, and you’ll be swarmed. All through the compound you will encounter resistance.”

“It’s a risk worth taking,” Alisa said. “If we don’t, there will be almost no way to take the fortress.”

“That decides it,” Pop said decisively. “Let us begin recruiting knights.”

Two years is a long time for such normal reactions...

Remember, these guys must have been closer than peas in a pod (WOW, never thought I'd use that saying. Kinda corny. Ha. Veggie puns.) before they were separated. Wouldn't they be a bit more... Emotional? Or shocked beyond reason? I dunno.

I know that some people neglect stuff like that, but I think if I saw someone I thought was dead for 2 years suddenly pop into a secret meeting place, I'd be quite shocked, unless I strongly believed said person was alive the entire time -- which isn't the type of feel I get from the group. I feel that they've accepted his death after all this time, and so would be at least a bit more shocked after his recurrence in Haven.
Anyways. Some authors don't sweat the small stuff, so I'm used to reactions being like that... Just a side-comment.

I'm quite interested in what the group was talking about before Mono came in, though. After all, "Alisa moaned, tearing her light purple hair, [and even exclaimed,] “Ohh… I wish Carbon was here, and not rotting somewhere in the Underworld!” ". But why? Why was she mentioning Mono at that time? And why was she to the point that she was "tearing her light purple hair"? Was there somewhere he was needed?

You can use this event as a segway into the next event -- and you may have planned that already -- but in case you weren't, I'd like to have some mention of whatever they were talking about at some point... Preferably edited in to Ch.3, or added into Ch.4.

Overall, this chapter was good. Which is saying something, because you managed to keep the characters' dialogue on-point without making the conversation seem boring. Details and perhaps side-conversations (such as when Alisa explained her tail) were skipped over, but it was for the sake of keeping side-topics to a minimum while adding a certain level of detail which made the events a tad meaningful. For example, the knowledge that tails provide heart-data may come up again in the future, when it comes to combat/exciting/stressful situations.

The plan outline is simple, but it will probably be put into detail once the group gets back to the compound, and the mentioning of a character app is implemented well.

My rating is: 4 Tortodrone heads / 2 Buckets of Snarbolax saliva.

Well...

@Ember You do have a bit of a point. There is a reason why Alisa wishes Carbon/Mono was there, and it will be explained in Chapter Four, but no spoilers yet! :P And him being gone for three years? (It was three, two in the Clockworks, and one on the surface, wandering) Well, I might edit that in a little bit more. They did think he was dead, or had gone mad and turned into some evil thing. And I would rather have four Tortodrone heads than two buckets of Snarbolax saliva. Unless I could throw them on a friend. Said friend would be quite angry... Hehehe.
