Well his wings were too small to do any good. But after doing it he realized he 1. made a BIG mistake 2. the person he traded it to didn't give him half the power he asked for. Also this is what put him into depression.
Aquilon Company: New Beginnings
Btw Orthus never tells anyone that he traded away his wing, he only says he wasn't born with them.
Btw Orthus never tells anyone that he traded away his wing, he only says he wasn't born with them.
I have no idea when the next chapter will be out, I'll try for Wednesday latest, sorry had a busy weekend.
Fleck was doing just fine, finishing up his gifted Wolver steaks, not a care in the world...
Then everybody appeared outta nowhere. Telling him that'd he'd be telling them what to do.
"Ok then, everyone is here for the Valkyrie regiment? Great, what we should do, is split off into squads, try to have a basic squad structure, Guard, Striker, the likes. If we have an odd number, then I'll figure stuff out, great? Go." Fleck ordered, then went back to finishing up his steaks.
He popped the last bit into his mouth, and looked back at the crowd of people. Nobody had moved, some looked at each other nervously, but other than that, nothing of the sort that Fleck had just said, happened.
"Alright then, I guess I'll make the squads. Everybody who thinks they should be a Recon, go there, everyone who thinks they should be a striker, go there, guardian over there, and anyone else who is undecided come with me." He pointed to three different spots, then waved the rest towards him before walking towards a doorway. He'd downloaded a map of the guild hall, and a training room was in an easy to get to area.
Once everyone who had followed him in were all I'm the room, he stepped over to a sparring mat and crossed his arms.
"Who's first?"

Corvina sat on the stairs to the hall of heroes and looked around boredly. She realized now that she probably could've gotten someone else to do this, but as she stays true to her word, she stayed, waiting for any who might come late. After a couple minutes of nothing happening, she unfolded her wings and curved one in front of her, she felt something bothering it for sometime, and decided to check the issue. The apparent problem was the new shield, slightly pushing against the tip, eventually made itself known. Corvina adjusted the shield and looked back around, sighing from boredom.
"So, how's the group looking this time, Quills?" A voice very near her said,
She whirled to the left and saw a familiar Valkyrie leaning against a pillar, looking at her with a knowing smile.
"Is everyone calling me that now?" She smiled in return, "Please tell me you'll be joining, where did the other survivors go? All I have i-"
The knight held up a hand, "One at a time Quills, but yes, we will call you that."
The knight got up, he wore the prestigious Heavenly Iron armor, and the Sacred Grizzly Sentinel helm, equipped with a canteen and medipack. Brilliant yellow eyes twinkled out through the eye slits, blonde hair hidden from sight underneath the helm.
"Yeah, I figured you'd need a bit of help with this, I feel you'll do better this time."
Corvina smiled and hugged the Valkyrie, "Thank you Trey, I can't tell you how much it means."
"Of course, anything for an old friend."
Corvina stepped back, and looked around quickly, "I say we go inside and tell the others we've gained another, come on."
* * *
"I'll go!"
Fleck turned to the voice, the one that spoke looked around quickly, then stared him straight in the eyes.
"Alright then, step right up, what do they call you?"
The girl stepped onto the mat, her chin out in determination "Critzer,"
"Ok, Critzer, what say we have a little duel? I see how one fights easier this way."
Critzer nodded, and unsheathed a rapier-esque weapon. The foil sported a yellow blade, with a wicked gleam at the tip. Fleck raised an eyebrow, this one took care of their weapons. He drew his Khopesh, and spun it once before bringing it out in front of him in one hand. Fleck glanced to the side,
"You, with the Skolver, be a judge and catch any foul play."
The knight nodded and stepped forward.
Fleck turned his gaze back to the girl. She had her eyes on him, Rigadoon and Grey Owlite shield in either hand.
"Go!"
Immediately after the command, Critzer sprang forward, lunging into a long reaching stab. Fleck pivoted on one foot and the blade whistled past his midsection. His Khopesh flickered out and twisted around the rapier. In a well timed flick, the Rigadoon clattered onto the floor.
"Too eager, try agai-"
Fleck started to offer advice, then leapt back as a combuster blade hummed through the air, leaving a trail of heat. Fleck moved into a stance and raised an eyebrow, Critzer had drawn another sword and attacked. She's quick, Fleck thought, that's good. Then he feinted forward, going for a stab then quickly changing to a wide sweep.
Critzer blocked the attack with her shield and was on the offensive again. Slashing back and forth as she stepped forward. Fleck dodged and parried, attempting a hook but failing due to Critzer yanking the sword back. The retreat didn't last long however, as her assault seemed to bounce right back.
This time, Fleck tried a another strategy, instead of drawing in and hooking like before, he swung his Khopesh around and parried the attack with the blade side of the Khopesh. Then, Fleck flared out his wings and beat them once, jumping lightly off the ground. It was enough to propel Fleck a small distance before he landed again. As soon as he hit the ground his Raptor was up and firing.
Critzer ducked behind her shield and the shots slammed into the elementally charged wood. After the six shots had hit and dissolved, Critzer lowered her shield to see...
Nobody, Fleck was gone. Critzer darted her eyes around, and noticed the others looking up. Realizing, she glanced up before bracing the shield upwards as Fleck dropped out of the air. The force of his landing pushed Critzer to the ground.
Fleck hopped off of the shield and kicked the Combuster away. He leveled his Raptor at her head and leaned back on one foot, facing the others,
"First tip, even though they don't teach you this at battle school, our wings can be useful in and out of combat."
He holstered his pistol and reached a hand out, pulling Critzer off the ground.
"You did good, Critzer, however, try focusing a bit more on overall defence, instead of relying solely on your shield. If you want my opinion, you'd be a great striker, or leader if you see it fit."
Fleck turned to the crowd of knights, noticing that everyone else had arrived, along with Corvina in the back with...
"Trey!" Fleck ran at the crowd, unfolded his wings and jumped, catching air and gliding a second or two before landing on the other side in front of Tray and Corvina.
Tray grinned, "It's been awhile Fleck, I see you've decided to take part in this event."
"Of course, why shouldn't I order people around? You got to do that last time."
Tray laughed, and then Corvina piped in, "Have they organized themselves yet?"
Fleck shook his head, "No, you both know I judge people best when I'm sparring with them."
"This was your first wasn't it? Allright, let's split them up, Trey, you take the Guardians and Strikers, Fleck, you take your own group, I'll work with those who wish to be recons."
Fleck and Tray nodded, and walked away in different directions, each shouting and directing those to follow them.
Corvina turned to the last group, and smiled, "Well, let's get started then!"
Yo Colray, would it be fine if I start off another story called Aquilion Company: Second Wind? It is just a story about Midnight and his mentor Xinde's personal adventure taking place sometime before the events in New Beginning ?
I really like where the story is going so far, and would like to make an app for a new character. (Since the current group is a tad full, feel free to put him where you could use him, provided it isn't the antagonist role)
Name: "Louie" (Is actually named Bahman, which is Norse for "Well-Spirited", But doesn't know his original name)
Age: Unknown
Gear: A Snarbolax coat, Divine Veil, and a grey Heater Shield. His weapons include the Phoenix (Essentially a red/bronze colored argent peacemaker that sets targets aflame instead of bonus undead damage), A Leviathan Flourish (Think a Cutlass-looking thing that deals piercing and normal with the leviathan blade/final flourish color scheme), And Various explosives, particularly haze bombs.
Appearance: Yellow Color, wears an Ash Tail Coat over his snarbolax coat, and a Padded cap with a grey scarf covering the mouth and nose, which is equally covered in soot. Wears a backpack (Which of course, is covered in yet more soot) Where he keeps his explosives and equipment to make them, and an eyepatch over his right eye. Speaks in a Scottish accent.
Wings: Grey wings that resemble an owl's wings, covered in (guess what) soot. What they lack in speed they make up for in stability and endurance.
Personality: A very jolly individual, kind, and forgiving to most people, and protective of his friends. Is often a nuisance for making terrible puns and wisecracks, but can be serious if need be. Tends to not take fighting seriously, unless the foe proves to actually be a threat. Hates people with Skolver gear, chaos gear, and black kat cowls.
Important notes: As probably noticed, he cannot see through his right eye, and has adjusted to not needing it, even focusing his fighting style into fooling the enemy into thinking that's his weak spot.
A sword fight, brings you closer to the opponent as one would say.
I reread my app for Ctritzer earlier and I realized her wings "act much like the wings of a falcon" yet i never said what importance they had. Her dash could be lengthened due to a gust from her larger wings and she can dive a lot better then most others could. But its a bit to late now and is my fault for being lazy and not rereading my app.
Colray, keep up the good work! Its great content and its nice to see you're pushing to have it out. Don't burn yourself out though, no one here wants that.
Also, seeing as how you presented this new chapter, are you implying most of them hadn't used their wings before? If you do, it makes sense, allows for more character depth early on. Thats one thing that kills fanfics that ive seen, all the characters are all roided up and ready to go, every fight is the same, no real change from the first one to the last one.
Which is a great thing.
Anyways, onto responding
@Midnight: Certainly, have at it.
@Magmarce: Cool, accepted, though your character may appear later once I make room.
@Critzer: I wasn't implying that the Valkyries hadn't used there wings, Fleck was. If you think about it though, assuming a group has no knowledge of a topic will yield better results than the opposite. And in a training academy, most of the instructors wouldn't have the idea to use an extra appendage, especially if the instructors don't have said appendage. And I agree with you on the absence of depth. One thing I feel is difficult is making an app for an RP, do you make a fully fleshed character and play him/her as a fully skilled character? Or do you make a less developed character to grow over the course of an RP. The thing is, is that RP's will vary in length due to many things, so its even more difficult to have a character develop when the rp dies.
Your thoughts?
@Everyone: by the way, new apps will be reviewed and may be accepted, but don't expect them to appear immediately.
I think you should add a section to the app for future peoplez called: Wing ability/utilization or something maybe. Well since Critzer is doing that, I should mention that Gabryal uses his wings to like, wind blast enemies. Heavy knockback, like the thing in Maleficient (I hate my little cousin....). He can also fly like a boss (Am tired. Do not care how dumb vocabulary is. Same with my grammarses). Maria uses her wings for gliding and is a very gifted flyer.
@Colray: Yeah I totally agree, when do you decide to beef up your char? Do you do it at the start if everyone else is doing it, if you dont, you seem like the black sheep of the herd, you dont get to do much of anything cause your to weak and so it offers no real logical development. While if you go beefy at the start, you've got the same character throughout the rp, and it sometimes leads you to want to add more to them during the rp, eventually god-modding your character, sometimes without realizing it.
Th one thing with an rp over a fanfic is you get to control the character, which is nice, you know how they act, move, and make decisions. But the benefits of fanfics are smoother story because its one person telling it. The character reactions are in the favor of the story progression in some way.
And fanfics feel much better in my opinion when the writer uses the char you submitted how you'd like them to act, like how you kept Critzer on the offensive constantly, which is how I like her to fight, sometimes just duel wielding whatever she grabs from her bag.
On a final note, i have yet to see an rp that is "short" so it depends on the prologue but id rather them be underdeveloped gear and experience wise then be a master at everything from the start, add more flow.
@Saucce: I had a feeling this would happen, just like when i stated Critzer could duel wield, a few people followed. I didnt mind that because everyone likes duel wielding, makes sense since shields cant go on the back of others, they either liked the idea or had it in mind already. But this wing thing, i incorporated into her wing design and has little to no other benefits then movement. She has a faster and much more accurate dive potential then most others due to her wings being falcon design. And the dash thing, everyone can do it, they all have wings, just who has faster reaction time is the difference between everyone.
But really, a knockback? Mathematically speaking, the wings on everyone's character are not large enough to create a gust strong enough to knock anything back, itd be more of a back step than anything else.
I stated that Critzer would have a better dive when i created the app, i didn't just think of it. I dont intend to sound mean, but this is a fanfic, not an RP, you made an app with your character stats and it was accepted how it was, keep it that way.
I also motioned to the fact that Colray could disregard what i said entirely about her wings, keeping her normal, it just suits her a lot better, due to her fighting style.
Falcon shape=Better dive; Large wings= better lift to get in or out off bad situations.
Its up to Colray, its just people need to stop tossing things in randomly, remodeling their character when Colray already has things going on in his head on how shit will go down, he doesnt need new stuff to throw him off. This isnt just this fanfic, its all of them.
P.S: When creating the app, you are asked to describe the wings of the character.
ok thx *Goes to cry in a corner* (Just kidding)
@The pair of C-name starters
I was going to write a responce to character depth... But I'm tired. So I'll just sumarize my thoughts on the subject.
Characters shouldn't have too little depth. But they also shouldn't have too much.
Characters with too little information need too much attention, and will distract from the main purpose of the RP/Fan-Fic -- sometimes giving depth coincides with storyline development, which makes said characters "Leads". That, in itself, is fine... But not when there are multiple writers involved (i.e RP's. No one likes seeing someone write pages of monologues just to flesh out a character during the RP -- leave that stuff in the Application). As such, Fan-Fics are the only forms of writing that should see these characters. The amount of said characters can vary, depending on the plot of the story, and how well the character's much-needed-depth can be revealed while keeping the Reader's attention.
Characters with too much information become Flat. I'm sure you can figure out what I mean by that without me even saying anything about it; these are not Applications. They are NPC's.
If they are not NPC's, then they are Pitchforks.
If they are not Pitchforks, they are God-Modders.
If they are not God-Modders then they are simply boring, and will leave the writer at a loss for character development. The end.
Characters should always be able to grow. But all characters, when Applied, should have a portion of prior depth installed within them, as to make decisions seem like "the ones they'd make, considering the circumstances [that they have faced/that they are facing/etc.] If characters do not have the proper amount of details to do at least that, then it is the failure of the one making the Application.
If you give an artist an empty can of paint and tell him to replicate the image you have in your head with it, don't expect the artist to do anything more than open the can, and cover your head with it. Or beat you with it.
That really depends on the artist.
If anyone expects anything else, they're being unrealistic. Expecting a perfect replica of one's intended character-idea at the start to come to fruition -- RP or Fan-Fic -- is madness. That being said...
@One half of the C-pair -- Colray
You've been given quite a lot of "paint". And cans. What you plan on doing with them is up to you... I look forward to the results.
@The other half of the C-pair -- Critzer
I'd take the response to your Wing-abilities as a compliment. Your ideas of having specific functions based on wing-type were just so ingenious, it'd be a shame not to add in his own functions.
@The other other C-pair member -- Colray again
In case it wasn't clear in my App, because Vanos [has trained with this weapon throughout his life], it should be expected that he has a good deal of experience in the field. I even furthered the notion of his experience in his Skin color. If I had to describe his character-depth development... I'd say that he's 63% developed.
@The other other other C-pair member -- Critzer again
I don't actually have anything else to say. But I like using "other" in long chains, so... Uh... Yeah.
So was my app accepted? Or do you need more info about my character?
Yes, Orthus is accepted.
@Ember-Break, and Critzer:Thanks for the thoughts.
@Everyone: I'm aiming for tomorrow sometime, probably a little late, but that seems to be the time when my creative juices start flowing.
Chris sat in his 'office', absentmindedly screwing and unscrewing a bolt from a spherical mechanism.
His workshop has not changed, the singular desk dominated the room. Shelves filled with assorted mechanisms and gadgets. Mostly unfinished inventions and scrapped ideas. The door was situated right in front of Chris, insuring no one enters or exits without him knowing. Or, as some say, without his gadgets knowing. Everything was wooden, ironically, either ironwood or ash, or good old fashion oak. When questioned, Chris would shrug and say something along the lines of, 'I like it, it gives a contrast to what I do.'
There was a knock on the door, and Chris looked up, "Come in!"
The door opened to admit a knight clad in all Padded gear, the standard attire for intel agents and couriers.
"Sir, you are the chief tactician for the.." The courier looked at a paper he held, then resumed, "Aquilon company?"
Chris sighed, then dropped the mechanism in his hands onto the table with a soft clunk. He stood up, and crossed his arms, "This couldn't go to Corvina because..."
He fell silent, the courier shifted uncomfortably, then resumed posture, "HQ has an available mission that, if the Aquilon company believes they are ready, may take."
He took a set of files from the folder he clutched, and set them on the table.
"That is all," The courier left without another word.
After sitting silently for a while, Chris grabbed the file and read it, judging the difficulty of the situation.
"Welp, I guess Corvina should know about this."
* * *
Corvina sat back on the bench, the recruits were more than just recruits, over half of them were seasoned soldiers. After the first review of their skills, Fleck and Trey were dividing up the members into squads.
"Hey,"
She looked to the side, Chris was standing there, looking at the members.
"What? I haven't made a list for the shields yet,"
Chris let out a small bark of laughter, "No, I wanted to tell you that we have a mission. HQ sent us a moderately difficult challenge to test our usefulness. I'm surprised it wasn't something as easy as reconnaissance."
Corvina looked up in surprise, it had been barely a day. Maybe it was standard to send a mission within a certain time period after the formation of a regiment, "What's the mission?"
Chris held up a file, "It's a rescue mission, we got three squads under gremlin watch around depth 13."
Corvina took the file and skimmed through it, "So why us?"
"It's a bit of a coincidence, the depth will be right at the bottom of the chasm an hour or two before noon tomorrow. If you accept, I suggest you put a squad or two ready for a dive bomb."
Corvina nodded, if it was right at the bottom of the chasm, the HQ would obviously assume the ones who could fly would be the ones to get there the quickest. Although the chasm would be quite the drop. She'd go over it with Fleck and Trey once they were done with the squad making.
"Alright, I'll see what I can put together, I'll give you, no, HQ the answer tonight."
Chris nodded, and turned to walk away, before looking back, "I've finished another shield, if your friend wants one."
Corvina's hand dropped to her own shield, then nodded with a smile, "I'll tell Fleck, he's been badgering me about it."
"Great, now if you'll excuse me, I have some things to take care of."
As the Tactician left the room, Corvina looked down at the file some more, then waited for the squads to be formed.
* * *
"Ok, we got a total of three, four man squads, give or take a few,." Fleck said to Corvina, then signaled to the crowd, after some rearranging, the Valkyries now stood in what would be their new squads.
"After rating their skill level and squad position, we've put together the knights that will support each other to the best of their ability."
The first stepped forward, "Alpha Squad, Vanos Kallo: Leader, Lucifera Mk Ende: Recon, Critzer: Striker, Trey Kryus: Guardian."
The second one stepped forward, "Beta Squad, Forsythe: Leader, Macha: Recon, Yours truly, Fleck Greystone: Striker, Vill Karto: Guardian."
The third and final squad stepped forward, "Delta Squad, Morkrai: Leader, Xinde: Recon, Midnight: Striker, Gorith Silverfelt: Guardian."
"On hiatus until more members join: Gabryal and Maria."
Fleck put the clipboard away and huffed with impatience, "I say we send in Alpha and Beta squad, with Delta squad and Hiatus watching with you and Chris acting as Intel agents. Corvina, I suggest you go out with the Recons from either squad and confirm the target tomorrow morning."
Nobody argued, the plan was set, all that was left was for Corvina to go give HQ her answer.
"Ok! Everything looks great, I'll go send the message."
Corvina turned away and walked to her office, a small, room with a desk, she pulled up a laptop and started typing out her answer to HQ, although she didn't show it, she was buzzing with excitement, the Valkyries were looking great and they were more than ready to accomplish tomorrow's mission, she had absolute faith in them. This would go flawlessly.
So maybe my character in the next chapter can save them from something going wrong. (the ending to the last one kind on emphasized something going wrong) I kinda wanted Orthus to join the company in a different way, so maybe this can be that way?
Oh Vog.
When those four words sit next to each other, I can't help but think thing are gonna get bad real quick. Also, because I like doing Headcounts and Giving opinions, I'll list off the current characters and add a bit of commentary:
Alpha Squad:
- Leader: Vanos Kallo
This is the first time a character of mine has been a leader of some sort. I feel like I had a kid and they won an award. So proud. ; -;
Anyways, Vanos is a silent-'till-it's-necessary stay-at-the-back fighter, so I'm looking forward to what kind of developments that'll come about with him being the leader. - Recon: Lucifera Mk Ende
Proper Recon Build, and character-type conflicts. Well played, Colray, well played. - Striker: Critzer
Alpha's gettin' a lot of detailed characters, ain't it? The berserker is here. Vog help this squad's enemies on the front lines. - Guardian: Trey Kryus
Unknown information beyond character build. Seeing as he was in the Aquilon Company before, he could establish some background on previous events... Also, regarding Fleck's comment that he "got to [order people around] last time.", I can assume he was in a Leader position... Or something like it. Either way, seeing as he survived the original events, I'll conclude that the Alpha team gained one more powerful member with him on the team.
Beta Squad:
- Leader: Forsythe
Easygoing leader powers! Somehow, the combination of Forsythe's color with his emotional makeup/position reminds me of RWBY. Since Beta'll (presumably) be on a mission within the next chapter or two, getting to see how this character acts will allow me to build up premonitions for this squad's future. The leader makes the team... And this leader will be speaking for the first time in this Fan-Fic soon. Hopefully. - Recon: Macha
Robo ninjas. WITH BOWS. Looking at the team dynamics as a whole (emotion-wise), I wonder whether she'll be able to avoid shouting at her team members. Not sure what she'll shout, considering she doesn't have a tongue, but there are situations that could trigger such events... Looking forward to how this character will develop without being able to speak clearly. - Striker: Fleck Greystone
Hotheads and Easy-going types are always nice to see alongside each other. I guess we'll see how ready Fleck was for real combat with the next couple of chapters. - Guardian: Vill Karto
The silent part of the group, it seems. Also, Claymores. In most games, Tanks can have two orientations. Defensive Builds, or Taunting DPS builds; I suppose Vill will be the latter (due to not wielding a shield). I look forward to combat write ups with this character.
Delta Squad:
- Leader: Morkrai (@Colray: You spelt it as "Morcrai")
The kind perfectionist Leader. If his subordinates are slobs, I wonder what will become of them... It's always fun to see team dynamics with this type, no matter what type of people are in the team with them. - Recon: Xinde
Due to the Personality given, particularly among the sternness on not having her fellow Valkyries become "fallens", I look forward to seeing how this character acts with other Valkyries, especially because her alignment (The Blue Star Conclave) is (presumably) not fully understood by the other knights (I'm making that presumption off of Corvina's presumption that the Blue Star was an organization in Post #4. She also has her student with her in this Squad, so depth information can be described (semi?)-freely. The combat specification of Recon isn't an exact fit for her loadout... But... She is a seasoned warrior, so she'll probably be able to deal with any position given. - Striker: Midnight
This Fan-Fic now has a Trap. And he's in a group with two guys and his caretaker. I wonder what sorts of situations that'll make... - Guardian: Gorith Silverfelt
A Bunny-fearing loyal-character. His personality matches with his assignment as a Guardian well, but... His Loadout isn't specified for the role, unless he's a defensive fighter. Those shields being developed could assist with proper role-orientation in this case, I suppose. He'll have time to receive one, due to the fact that his team will be (presumably) staying back and monitoring this Mission with those on Hiatus.
Hiatus:
- Gabryal:
Dark past, Heavy-gunner type. Not sure what role this character will have just yet. Perhaps some character depth can be established while he, Maria, and the Delta squad all monitor the Mission. - Maria:
I find it partially nice, and partially problematic that there's a counterpart duo. I've always liked the balance of Dark and Light characters, but... If something bad happens, it may have bad repercussions. If she starts getting closer to other characters, Gabryal may become reclusive; I wonder if we'll
see how well her cheery attitude assists in such a situation.
Organizers:
- Corvina:
Judging off of the fact that a similar regiment has been made in the past, I wonder how much unseen pressure Quills has riding on her? I look forward to seeing this character develop. - Chris:
Could possibly be an NPC type. I'm not really sure how he'll develop as a character, since his purpose seems a tad separate from the rest of the group (everyone else is a Valkyrie, after all)... But that's just something else to look forward to, I suppose.
Characters not yet Implemented:
- Orthus:
A split personality, and without wings. Depending on how the story line goes, he may not find the happiness he desires... Still, I'd like to see how other characters react to this part-Valkyrie joining in. - Louie:
If y'think ahm gonna let go of this Scottish characta's accent, you're gonna have te beat i' out a' me.
Vog I love characters with accents -- so please excuse my poorly written impression of it. Anyways, because he's the only Bomb-using App in the bunch, I'd love to see how the team that gains him will function.
Looking forward to the next part, Colray.
Delta squad's slots aren't set in stone, Iit was getting late and I'd spent enough time building the either two, I'm thinking Xinde may fit better as a guardian, and switching Gorith into recon. Or maybe switch Xinde with Midnight, I'll think about it.
The next chapter might be a little late, it'll probably lead up to the mission, then the next two chapters will be on the Mission, and then those watching.
The feeling of "Expectations are to high" could not be any stronger at this point. I smell a twap.
@Ember: Alpha's enemies are gonna up a river without a paddle. They either distance themselves, which puts them in optimal range for Vanos, or move closer only to get massacred by the rest of the team.
Now that I think about it, it might be easier to compare Gabryal to Vege- wait no not him. Maybe uhh... Kiri- no not him either. This post has become redundant.
I have too much time on my hands, and not enough content to read. ._.
I'll get into 'em.
Eventually.
I go to write, then my mind goes blank, I can't promise anything, but I'll try and get something out this weekend.
Im kidding, take your time, we just twiddling our thumbs at each other as we wait.
Corvina took a deep breath and looked at the other recons. Lucifera Mk Ends seemed on her toes, but generally relaxed. Macha examined her arm, checking to make sure it would not fail.
"Alright, you girls ready?"
They both nodded, and Corvina looked at Fleck and Trey watching them and talking off to the side.
"We're ready. See you in about an hour."
"Don't get yourself captured, I don't want to have to rescue you before Breakfast." Came Fleck's reply.
Corvina rolled her eyes and lead the others out to the chasm edge. Once they were there, she peered over the edge. Below, the slow churning of the clockworks wafted up to meet her, the bottom floor was invisible to her at this height.
"Let's get lower." She told the other two.
Corvina spread her wings, and waved forward before running and diving off the edge.
The cold air against her face felt amazing, and she pulled into a glide, descending slowly in a circle. She considered just gliding down, but realized that anyone on the ground would see them clear as day if they looked up. She veered off to one side, glancing up to see if the other two were following.
Corvina lit on the side of what seemed to be a Wolver den depth, and waited for the other two.
Lucifera swooped in silently, touching down in a similar manner. She looked around and waited for orders. Macha shot towards them and landed by turning her jetpack around and slowing her fall.
"Ok, can you two see the depth from here? You might have to use your peripheral."
If one looked at the darkness with their peripheral vision, one could just make out a deconstruction zone, with multiple specks dotted around.
Corvina looked at the others, watching for when they noticed, once they did, she nodded, "We'll have to get a closer look, but we can't be spotted, we have to stick close to the edge of the chasm."
She was answered with nods, and they took to the air once again.
* * *
"Get moving aliens!" A gremlin barked, poking a knight with its wrench hammer.
The gremlins had ambushed and captured a troop of knights resting at Moorcroft, taking them by surprise. So far, the gremlins had been marching the knights lower and lower throughout the depths, traveling mostly by the Deconstruction Zone, Mechanized mile, or Jigsaw axis levels.
"Come on, wakey wakey!" Another poke,
Orthus pushed himself up and thrust the hammer away from his face.
He sat up and looked at the other captives, he was the captain of about half of them. Berc, the other captain, had escaped with a squad, and rescue was bound to arrive.
He got to his feet and swept his gaze over the knights he had to take care of.
Roland helped up Isdar, who had been injured in the ambush, Louie, a Valkyrie, spat at a gremlin before dodging the incoming rebutal. Eric slid something into his armor and stood up, catching Orthus's eye and grinning.
Orthus rolled his eyes and looked up, they appeared to be in the chasm, perhaps the bottom, but a small blue sliver marked the space that surrounded Haven. It was just out of reach, taunting. He tested the shackles that bound his wrists, no movement, as expected.
He looked up, and was poked from behind, he jerked forward in surprise, glared at the gremlin, and then looked up again.
Something had caught his eye. He peered at the darkness that surrounded the sliver, there it was again! A small flicker of movement, it seemed to be a flash of wings.
So rescue would be coming soon. He looked down, hiding his involuntary grin. Then moved to spread the word.

The Aquilon scout team was now a single depth above the target. Corvina pulled out a pairs of electronic binoculars, and swept the area.
"Count the knights, Lucifera, Macha, you count the gremlins, she produced another pair of binoculars and handed the two one each.
After a couple seconds, Lucifera lowered them and turned to Corvina.
"27 unarmed knights."
Macha lowered hers and sent a quick message over the HUD. < 30 gremlins, 6 Constructs, >
"Good job, I'll send that to HQ. Before I do that, see anything else not readily obvious?"
The two turned back to the depth, scanning.
< Scattered piles of what seems to be metal scrap, a collection of explosive crates on the southeast side, may impose danger to targets. >
Lucifera tilted her head, "Captives are shackled on their wrists only, and seem to be loosely connected."
Corvina raised her eyebrows, and nodded, "I think that's sufficient info, this isn't a hostage crisis, let's go.

Corvina stood at the edge of the chasm for the second time that morning, this time, however, she wasn't doing any more flying. In front of her stood all three squads, with Gabryal and Maria off to the side with Chris.
"This our first mission, and we were assigned to it because of our gift, so believe in yourselves, and this'll be a piece of cake."
She walked to the side, and nodded to the squad leaders.
Vanos waived forward and Alpha squad ran to the edge, and jumped, soaring into the void. Beta squad followed soon after. Corvina looked to Chris, and they walked back to the guild hall to observe and assist from afar.
"Dive they must into the void, knowing what to encounter, ready for their combatants, Critzer could only grin in front of Corvina but as she dived, it turned to a smile of glee and morbid intent!" -A little thing id think shed be doin.
Oooooooooooooooooooooooh, i cant wait for the next chapter, its spring break and i barely have anything to do so its going to be a loooong wait, but itll be worth it.
Woop woop. Another good chapter.
I forgot to mention in the original design of the Reaper Mk 0.6, but with adjustments to the Circular Generators, the actually ammunition can be shot off without exploding, if needed. Turning off the generators, however, will mean that the bullets will lose their acceleration affect as well, meaning that the 160° cone-acceleration no longer applies, and the bullets follow a simple, linear pattern (like a regular sniper rifle... Just with way bigger "bullets").
I figured I should make that clear before any combat happens, because shooting off exploding ammunition can lead to Friendly Fire with hostages. Or, er... Friendly explosions. And death. Lots of death. Especially with those explosive crates sitting around.
Last note: Upon looking over the Cone effect itself... I failed to make it clear that the trick-shot direction is determined by Vanos, and isn't just a random-directional shot. He chooses the direction by tilting a pair of dials located near the trigger. One Dial is for Vertical alignment, and the other is for Horizontal.
explosions?
who said that...?
I am also lmao about the second wind thing...
I like punctuation...
Aquilon Company: Second Wind was funny? How?
Anyway, here are some concept arts for Xinde, Midnight and the main antagonist of my story, Lord Ravadon, corrupter of a thousand world .
Link is broken
*sits on top of Critzer's head and waits patiently*
Loving the story so here's my app if you want it. I haven't written an app in forever so it might be a bit dodgy :3
Name: Forrower
Age: 24
Gear: Snarbolax coat and cap but rather than red and black the red is replaced with a glowing white so in the dark all you can see are these 6 white glowing circles which could be kinda creepy in my head...
Holds a Gran Faust and a Acheron, for a gun... well he doesn't use a gun much.
Uses a Barbarous Thorn Shield again with the white in the middle
Appearance/Costume/Personal Color: Black hair, dark brown eyes, almost black. Quite tall. Snarbolax set except white and black. Colour is black
Wings: Feathered, has a pure white coloured right wing, but on the other side, his left wing is more of a greyish colour and is considerably smaller than the right.
Personality: A kinda emotionally tougher character, he's calm and collected and doesn't usually shows his emotions but smiles or laughs occasionally. Even though he doesn't show it everyone he knows realizes he's soft on the inside. When he's smiling he turns his head so you cant see him smiling or laughing. He's quite quiet. If things get rough physically or verbally he would step in and stop it.
Important Notes: Sometimes feels a sharp pain in his left wing when flying and this can alter his steady flight so if he does fly he tries to make short breaks in between. Barely flies so doesn't have much practice with them but to make up for this he is a REALLY EXCEPTIONAL fighter. He wields his weapons as though they were part of himself. Spends almost all of his time wandering in the depths of the Cradle.

It's not too late for me to submit an application, is it?

Well, I didn't expect Morkrai to become a leader of a squad, even if it was still Delta. It's the first time I've made a character for a fanfic OR rp, and was'nt expecting Morkrai to even be accepted. But Colray is too nice for that. TY Col!

Oh my, I believe I forgot to post the finished chapter yesternight. Excuse me while I fling my phone aside and dash to the device which holds the unreleased chapter.
((@Kaijuhunter: It's never too late! Plus if you post a well thought out app, I won't be able to convince myself to say no.))
*Dashes off to post story*
"Woohoo!"
A shout was bellowed from the mouth of a Valkyrie, From Fleck's position, it seemed to be Forsythe.
A second later, a message flashed in front of everyone's HUD.
< shut it, you want them to know we're coming? >
Fleck hid a smile and slowed his descent, coming level with Forsythe, who looked at him sheepishly.
"Sorry, couldn't help myself."
"It's fine, next time, save the shouts for practice. Let's pour on the speed."
The last sentence was added as a suggestion to the rest of the divers.
As they shot through the sort of musty clockworks air, one by one they unfolded their wings and started beating them, increasing the speed.

Orthus heaved a big chunk of machinery onto a pile, the gremlins were making them load up a lift with the scraps, presumably for recycling. While Orthus did this, he couldn't help but notice Eric looking busy, picking out a ton of stuff.
He looked up again, staring into the sliver of the chasm. A fog had settled, and the sky was just a gray expanse. He wondered when the Order would come.
Then a shape broke through the fog.
Then another, and another.
Orthus tore his gaze from the sky and moved quickly to Eric.
"Sir?" The tinkerer raised an eyebrow at his urgency.
"Whatever you've been planning you should do it now, make a distraction or something."
Eric stepped back at the words, "Why?"
Orthus flicked his eyes up, and Eric followed suit. He blinked unbelieving, then glanced at Orthus.
"Gimme five seconds."
Then he walked away hurriedly.
Orthus walked towards another scrap pile casually, and met with Louie, "The Order's here, get ready to take up something and fight with it."
Louie grinned slyly, "Aight, I get your point."
He brandished a sharp piece of metal, then laughed and turned away.
Orthus dug through a scrap pile, and found a good length piece of pipe.
He tested its weight, then glanced at the gremlins around him.
Suddenly a bright flash of light boomed from where Eric had moved to. A small device was spinning and launching sparks in random directions. As Orthus watched, a gremlin moved forward to smash it, and it suddenly jumped into the air and emitted a high pitched screech before landing and describing a large circle, dancing out of the way of a hammer swing.
Orthus gripped his Pipe and moved up behind a mecha-knight, who had turned towards the light and was trying to find a match on the object in its data banks.
He swung the pipe at the mecha knight's neck joint, and the head simply popped off the body. The construct made a powering down sound, before crumpling in a heap.
Orthus quickly grabbed the sword, and cut through his cuffs. He picked up the Mecha-Knight's shield and looked around, seeing another construct moving to engage him.

Vanos broke through the layer of fog and flared his wings out, slowing his dive, his hands flew to his back and the Reaper Mk 0.6 sprang loaded into his hands. He brought it to his eye and sited a target, one of the two lumbers that might pose a threat.
His fingers flew along the gun, changing the modes to be non-explosive and pulled the trigger. The bullet shot away and he moved the rifle away from his head, thumb on the guiding dial.
The shot would have slammed into the ground in front of the lumber, but instead, the shot curved from its path and demolished the wooden behemoth.
If the gremlins didn't know they were coming, they did now.
A Gremlin Mortafire turned and launched a shot upwards, the missile flashed past Vanos, and an explosion rocked behind him. He whipped the Reaper towards the gremlin and reloaded. Then he sighted and shot in the space of a few seconds.
Another mortar shot flashed into the air, and a cry of pain alarmed Vanos. He jerked his head up and saw Critzer spinning away from a cloud of smoke, landing some distance from the fight. He shot the mortafire and was at her side in a millisecond.
"Where'd you get hit?"
Critzer grimaced, massaging her arm, "It hit my shield, didn't expect it to make that much of an explosion, I'm fine, just lost my shield."
Trey swooped by with a concerned look, "She ok?"
Vanos nodded, "I got her, go help the others." He hefted his sniper rifle and searched for another target.
* * *
The first one to land was Lucifera, she hit the ground with barely a sound, then darted forwards, her Vector's Spite out and forward.
The first gremlin she targeted was another mortafire, the gremlin brandished its shield, growled, and launched a missile in a short arc.
Lucifera simply sidestepped and vaulted over the shield, plunging her blade into a chink in the mortafire's armor, silencing it.
She landed neatly, and promptly vanished, using her Beholden Module. Unseen, she ghosted toward another threat.
* * *
Critzer rubbed her arm, ruefully, just when she was about to see some real combat. She watched Vanos discharge a few times, and decided to add her own, she unholstered her Magma Driver and added some firepower of her own.
* * *
"Get in there! They're going to execute the captives!"
Fleck swooped into the circle of Knights, firing salvo after salvo at the surrounding gremlins. They retreated a distance from the flurry of shots and he was able to land with Forsythe and Macha.
They couldn't get there instantly, and three knights lay dead. Fleck saw the stricken look on the other captives' faces, and brandished his sword.
"Pick up something, come on! Fight back!"
That order spurred the knights into action. Trey dropped in and Macha and Forsythe focused on cutting the captives free. Fleck took off again, shooting towards a group of gremlins rallying under a sergeant by the looks of it. Fleck disarmed a thwacker and cut the gremlin down, then blocked the swing of another. He finished that one off and looked at the sergeant,
To see Lucifera pull her flourish out off the Sergeant's back.
"I had him!" Then Fleck turned and was engaged in another fight.
* * *
Vill Karto smashed through the last Mecha knight with ease, and yanked the Claymore front the newly made scrap. He looked to the side, saw the knights rallying to Forsythe and Macha. Vill decided he'd better join them.
* * *
The Aquilon squads and the Knights joined and made a circle, fending off the lessening gremlin forces. Now cut in half. The knights didn't make it unscathed, as two more had lost their lives in the battle.
Trey watched as the Spiral Knight that looked to be a leader led a group of knights against a squad of Thwacker's, he seemed to be a good fighter, they'd have the gremlins scurrying for their burrows in no time.
* * *
The battle ended pretty uneventfully. Most of the gremlins gave up and retreated, moving effortlessly through the depth and escaping through who knows where. All six constructs had been reduced to scrap.
"So do you guys have a helicopter or something? How do we get back up?"The Knight commander asked, he'd introduced himself as Orthus.
"Well, we aren't carrying you. Up they way we came back, there are eight of us. And about twenty of you left." Fleck remarked.
Trey moved his hand away from his helm, "They got a transport descending now since the area is secure, should take a few minutes."
"Good, I'll be happy to get home," Orthus said pointedly, then a question occurred to him.
"So there's an all Valkyrie set of squads now?" He asked, looking at Fleck.
Fleck nodded, "This was our first mission, how'd we do?"
Orthus gave him a sour look and looked at the collection of fallen knights, "Ok I guess, we could have done with less casualties."
Fleck nodded, looking meaningfully at Trey.
"Guys?"
The voice came from Critzer, who was standing off to the side, she was looking at something in the distance.
They jogged to her side, and she pointed. On the other side of the Decon Zone, a solitary figure stood, watching them. Then, as they watched, the figure seemed to fade away.
That's when the ground started shaking.
((I wanna know, do you guys want to see Delta squad and Corvina or do want to see what makes the ground shake?))
