We all saw it coming, and it's finally here. The swarm has infected the core. How will we get to it? Is this new core for after shadow lairs, or is this tied to the new mission?

That is incredibly scary. I've never thought the day would come where I would be legitimately scared of Spiral Knights.

@Shadow-Anubis that's what I was thinking. If they're gonna connect it to the new mission, since it's a mix of Legion of Almire and Firestorm Citadel from what we can tell (Just recovered but still on fire? Uh) I imagine we're gonna see something to do with the weird contraption at the back that looks like a slot for the artifact, then arrive at the core and! Shock! Horror! Everyone is non-alive! Swarm!
It could even leave us on a cliffhanger till the next mission.

What if we first have to beat ALL the shadow lairs before you may enter? ;D
I doubt they'd require you to beat every shadow lair to enter... However we are totally going to be getting a free shadow lair key reward from a mission, I almost guarantee it... Unless they make Shadow Lairs free in which case the radiant drought will forever be fixed.
Making shadow lairs free would be AWESOME!
How I love to go up against the Ice queen! (never done it because those keys cost way too much)
However, if they would make shadow lairs free because of this mission they would get a whole lot of complaints from people who purchased/used shadow keys recently, so I doubt that'll happen
Maybe it's part of an event? would be cool too!

I brought two shadow keys and ran the lairs literally two-three days ago. I would definitely be annoyed if lairs become free anytime soon.
A free key would be nice though :P
So, Three Rings is going to play their trump card to pull back all the oldies? Is their game in a state that they think they can hold them? Is it a last ditched attempt for attention? Is there more swarm stuff after this? Or was this always intended to be the last mission? I am interested to see how this affects the attitude towards the game. Will people consider spiral knights "complete"?

Gotta admit, SK had never given me chills. I was close during the Arkus fight, but this legitimately overran my hype meter.

In the second picture it shows the elevator to haven with the swarm and all that there. What we are just going to say hell with it i'm out of here and just leave with that playful mission accomplish theme on even though our mission never was completed?
In all honesty we're probably going to nope out of the core the moment we can. I would assume we'd need to get in contact with HQ immediately, especially if the knights at the core terminal had no real communication with the surface.
All in all I'm glad to see more of the story unfold. The Swarm's always been a rather mysterious enemy so it's great to see it making a rather mysterious return!

TIME FOR ANOTHER ONE OF PAINTOOL'S CRAZY WACKY CONSPIRACY THEORIES!
All the knights stationed at the core had no communication with Spiral HQ. For the last 2 years, even Vaelyn was convinced that minerals were still needed to open the core. Spiral HQ knew better than this... it was all a bait trap to determine how exactly the Alpha Squad went out. Alpha went out with barely any documentation, but Vaelyn's core squad was the perfect candidate to be tested. AFTER ALL, she's the only knight who can duel wield, and HQ ain't havin' none of those bragging bananas hanging around. SHE'S GOTTA GO FAST.
Meanwhile Herix is probably laughing his head and snout off (seriously look at his model, his snout looks cut short and he's got tubey things going in) because he's the only person alive who knows what to do next. All he had to do was wait for Core Squad to get taken out, and he can waltz straight down to the core. No Vana... No Core Squad... No nuffin.
I agree with skeptic raven. The shadow fsc echo stone tells us that the swarm is a creation unlike all. neither beast nor god.
I am also sure that the swarm is referred to in the recon module: Entrance to the core. When they talk about being pursued by terrible darkness. I'm fairly sure it's talking about the swarm.

@Red-Galaxy perhaps it's a work in progress mission or, even better, they'll had a few com missions (I legitimately like those, a nice break from the action) for you to frantically report what you found? It certainly doesn't take much work to make one of the com missions, just dialogue work really.

Hardly.
A swarm core boss model has existed in the files since late 2012, and speculation of the core being the final boss dates back to early 2011.
Discussion threads stopped cropping up around early-mid 2013 because by then the topic had been essentially completely covered and everyone was on board with what the deal with the swarm and the core was.
This was really predictable
At least now I can tell people the swarm was not the thing in the core

Because delay means two different things depending on what game you're playing.
Why am I even asking these questions? Nobody but Aphrodite ever answers anything around here anyways.
I'm actually quite happy for some response, Aphrodite. It's always nice hearing back from either the Gamemasters or Developers about what is going on with any possible future content. (IE: Being open about it)
What exactly caused this issue that you can know of and is there any ETA on when it'll appear again?
Not to be a downer about the situation but when sk has a delay in content it is never one day or two days(which is the normal amount of time for a developer to fix some bugs which arose in said content). Which makes me kind of sad because I was looking forward to this content.
ETA's and OOO don't seem to get along too well, I wouldn't trust it if we had one.
Our QA team found some problems during their final runs through the new content, and the team decided it was best to get those fixed before releasing. Likely, the new goodies will be ready for next week.
(Don't write that in stone. Use something more malleable, like jello or pudding.)
Knowing what sort of technical stuff would be neato. Is it like, a gamebreaking issue, hardware issue, enemies-going-out-of-bounds issue, level generation issue...?
I ask because if it's not anything that we need every gamemaster to hop aboard on there is that whole preview server thing over there collecting dust...

You know, I'm glad OOO is learning to grab the throttle on the hype train and push it forward.
I just hope whatever final boss shows up has a Border of Wave and Particle in one phase. That would be pretty lulz-worthy.

Oh my hype level's been fluctuating wildly, it's more like 9/10 or 10/10 right now but as soon as the update's gonna be released it'll go all the way back up to 12/10 or more
