I recall this item not existing as the alternate pickup aside from vials, capsules, etc. Did they change this?

Ditto. And as usual, the summon pickups are usually meant for Tier 1 in terms of power.
Along with that, they re-introduced the long sought for Ultra Prison Barrier.

Really? Last time I saw it did Tier equivalent damage... The Auto Turret was actually useful.
I'll have to agree with Qwez here. The A.Turret does tiered damage, especially deadly to enemies weak to Elemental.
At Depth 24 Elite, if I recall correctly, a single beam can one-shot a Howlitzer and severely wound Skellies, enough to do either a swing or two and off them.
And yes Nefariousity, ATs have been enabled for a while, they're just as common as the Missiles and Mechaknights, save the fact that they're actually a little bit more useful.
I just outright assumed it was based on Tier 1 like the Mecha Knight Kit. Maybe the Recon Flare, too.
I've gotten it and it seemed like it didn't do too much. But that's either because I keep forgetting to use it during Vana runs or because I use it for JK runs and their little mini's at the boss stage. Actually forgot that even the Artillery Strike does some decent damage.

I made this thread when the turret first was available, but they seem to have stealth patched it to increase damage.
Speaking of stealth patches, I just noticed today that my iron slug was piercing green mini jellies [from a danger room].
It has been changed, and you can now find them. I find one every 2 or so runs I do. It summons a small rotating turret that shoots beams at enemies.
