First Round

Since we only have 5 teams I've decided to change the scheme of the tournament to a Round Robin with two dates for each team. The team who collects the most wins (and points) will claim the first place prize.

I'll update the OP in the coming days to fit the information

Shadow Mercenaries comes in as a late entry!

This is might be late to say

This is might be late to say now but having a game play as when Jempire do a GvG. at least rules controlled the abusing of these weapons ( pulsar hammer ) also with the brand new t2 bkc this is not but another t3 match mini edition which make the whole point of your op uvs t3 gear pointless.
I have been playing LD t2 for so long so let me tell you something I have a fear this luvly event going to be the worse.
if your are going to say they won't spend more money than what they are going to WIN then welcome to reality this is just an experiment for them discovering their chance of winning and prepared themselve for the next tournament with the highest quality of gear they can reach.

pretty sad that the t1 tournament is cancelled. I was expecting something like you can't play t2 tournament without the t1 or both or t1 and t2 are linked.

(what am I saying right now this tournament already started...)
and Thanks

@OP You mentioned Auto Target but not sparks, does that mean they are allowed or that you forgot the most important aspect of what determines the outcome of a match?

Oh boy

@Turbo-Nano
I originally wanted to do just T1 but the response to that was underwhelming to say the least, so I caved in and created the T2. I am aware they still have a huge pool to choose from and the same issues will arise (see: Hammer and Pulsars) but at least it won't be as blatant as T3 where most players have spent half their money.

This is meant to be a test run for something bigger coming up in the Summer, of course there would be complications and I knew that coming into it.

@Theirillusion
I thought about sparks and I honestly wouldn't be able to track and control all of that. Yeah, it's nice to say that I won't allow you to spark to make things fair but the moment someone as much as suspects there was a spark there would be a lot of arguing -that I really don't want to deal with.

Day #1

On a surprising turn of events Little Bunnies (Try Hards) get shot down hard by Funk Off and lose 3 matches in a row. [Results]

Both Git Gud and Leftypepperswirl's team crack under the pressure and are no-shows.

Day #2

Git Gud squares off with Little Bunnies, but Little Bunnies ends up overwhelmed after 2 matches and loses the third due to technical difficulties [Results]

Funk Off continues its winning streak after coming in strong against Shadow Mercenaries. A valiant effort by the newcomers, but Funk Off proves to be too much to handle. ELK continues to cap -sometimes- [Results]

What happens to the match that wasn't played? Do we replay it sometime in the future, or they both count as losses, or wins, or ties, or what?

P.S: Also what time is the first match tomorrow. I'd like to not sleep through it again if possible.

If the match was missed it

If the match was missed it shouldn't be able to be made up I would think. That would be unfair to teams that actually did fight on time. But it is up to KD so yeah

@Retequizzle
I had high hopes, but he didn't cap on the second match, so his streak is over now

@Klipik & Lethal-Bunduru
I don't mind if you guys make up that game, but as it stands right now it's a loss for both teams.
You'd have to coordinate with Clutch-Oven to see when you guys wanna play.

my only line of contact with lefty's team has been miabot; and from what i was told ELK and klipik had talked earlier today though i'll be blunt and say i have no idea whether the time was specifically mentioned by ELK to klipik or if it was just a general "wtf we doin fam" moment, though we did decide as a team last night that playing 8 PM tonight was our only available time.

so our team showed up at 8 PM. we had received no other information on the subject from anyone, and stayed until 9:30 PM. attempted to contact lefty's team multiple times throughout the afternoon and evening, but moreso in the evening for me since i had two job interviews in the morning and wasn't on during the morning hours.

so uh... yeah

Sry bout dat.

I had things come up this afternoon and wasn't able to be there, but yes Epic told me that the match was at 8PM. Likewise though, the only people on our team I saw online anywhere today were Mia and Luffy, and I hadn't heard anything from Lefty or Lech prior to the match. So, sorry for making you wait, hopefully we'll be more organized going forward.

The story so far

Git gud vs Pepperswirl: Didn't happen, not enough participants on both sides. Do we need to reschedule this or just move on?

Git Gud vs Little Bunnies: 2-0 to Git Gud, third match cancelled because Bunnies had issues queueing on EU server.

Git Gud vs Funk off: Didn't happen, people not online, unavailable. To be rescheduled (hopefully tonight or tomorrow)

Git Gud vs Shadow Mercs today: Needs to be arranged. Threattoall or anyone from that team please contact me.

You guys already know Funk Off's first game.

Second game: Funk Off vs. Shadow Mercenaries. 3-0 our favor.

Third game: Funk Off vs. Leftypepperswirl. Win by forfeit. (ps klipik if i didn't respond to your mail then no hard feelings it happens)

Fourth game: Funk Off vs. Git Gud - in process of rescheduling, Kinda-Decent was notified in advance of the delay that it wouldn't happen on schedule due to family/holidays/social stuff.

(Disclaimer: A good chunk of Funk Off's players have commitments during the day that would make scheduling difficult given time zones. Will still try to aim for tomorrow but if it can't happen, this coming weekend may be our better option).

Updates & Date #3

I have received no contact whatsoever from either Lefty OR Lechery for about 2 weeks, thus I am removing the team entirely from the competition

Day #3

Only match happening at this point is Little Bunnies v. Shadow Mercenaries. Shadow Mercs get cold feet and lose by default

The tally so far

What's next?

Git Gud v. Shadow Mercs
Git Gud v. Funk Off

After these matches are done we can call it a day. It was a mess but hey, someone had to try

obviously this tournament was

obviously this tournament was a GvG between git gud and funk off no more no less. it's so obvious that both teams just went for op players and make ultimate team.
to be honest the tournament was pretty unfair or in other words no challenge or even a real fight it was more of one side fight every time you fight one of these two teams.
( that 3star bkc should have been defuffed specially in DMG )
anyway there was no rules against all of that so I can't say much.

overall is was a good opportunity for top players to earn just more money..

@Klipik

Both Little Bunnies and Shadow Mercs agreed to a time, neither team showed up so I let them reschedule. You're well aware of what happened with Funk Off. Just waiting for Git Gud to schedule the final matches and we can wrap this up.

@Manava

I honestly tried to make this more than just the two teams. I tried to speak with countless other guilds, like LoS and 69 (RIP), to get them to sign up. The idea was to get more people involved, but even T1 had to get cancelled.

TO BE FAIR, Lefty's team had a really good shot at it as well had they actually showed up to any of the matches.

slightly irrelevant now that KD's posted but i figured i'd post anyway to drive the point home

manava, with all due respect:

there appears to be very little that held you back from playing in this tournament, given the fact that you cited your own "experience" in T2 LD just about two weeks ago. every team except shadow mercenaries had an adequate amount of time to recruit players to play for a particular team, including the ones that you're complaining about being "OP". the only thing that could have been done is to restrict a team to a certain number of backups - even then, funk off has only used 7 of 12 players, and i think little bunnies has used 8 or 9 of their 12. this would account for one additional team that "could have been made", but realistically the players funk off hasn't used either no longer play or specifically said that they prefer not to unless we have no one else. on top of that, every team had about the same amount of prep time to make decisions on gear to use/heat. for the sake of argument, i'll even humor the notion of rolling UVs on 3* gear and detail it below.

DISCLAIMER: if you don't like numbers being crudely presented at 11 am EST, then skip the next paragraph.

if we assume that each team splits the money up 6 ways (for each player in the winning team), the most a single player can get is 5500 CE, which translates to roughly 525k crowns (9500 cr being used as the median value for a bundle of 100 CE). assuming that player decides roll 1 UV onto your armors and weapons, they have approximately 26 rolls to get any kind of max UV and break even. break this up between helmet, armor, and two weapons, and you have roughly 6 rolls per item to get something desirable. and that's just under financially ideal circumstances where only six players get paid off. this math is also only assuming that team places in first. if we look at the teams in the running, arguably only shadow mercs could have feasibly justified doing this, with git gud being a close second by having 7 players instead of 6. in the worst case scenario of a 12-way split (as previously mentioned, funk off and little bunnies both have a registered list of 12 players), you can essentially halve the amount of rolls a player could theoretically do to give themselves an advantage and still profit off of winning.

the only thing you really did get right about that statement of this tourney being about funk off vs git gud is that you understand the basic principles behind a tourney, since it usually boils down to two teams anyway. as KD previously noted, lefty's team could have easily made matches go for all five rounds, so ruling them out is frankly a pretty stupid call as it is. i'm not even their team representative and i know this tourney could have been a pretty good one had they played - they had a stroke of bad luck by having players get sick and two leave the country for the holidays.

ultimately, it comes down to this - whining and complaining is all well and good, but at least have a valid reason to do so.

Well, Frankly...

@Manava I agree with this statement.

I signed up for this tournament in order to bring interest back to T2 because I miss playing it, and I was hopeful (by now I should learn to never be) that we could make some teams of old T2 players and have some tournament matches just for fun, to try to influence new players to participate. But after looking at all the signups it's easy to see that this tournament has come down to nothing more than a few teams trying to be as powerful as possible, discouraging others to join, as shown by the small numbers signing up for the tournament at all, as well as the pure point of trying to prove who's best.

Granted, I should have known this would happen, and I apologize for my untimely sickness being the major cause of all this commotion, and I apologize to the rest of the teams and to my teammates that I could not be there for you when our matches were meant to happen. Also, the lack of planning and the issue of time zone differences are also much to blame for the failure to get the teams together to play our games.

Anyway, I feel no remorse, other than for my friends who signed up with me and for the other team who did not get to play us, for not getting to participate in this tournament, and no one else should either. In the end we all know what match it was going to come down to, and when the future is known to hold your demise, participation/living becomes meaningless.

Participation is only meaningless if the only thing you care about is winning. I would have still played all of those matches however small a chance we had of winning, just for fun.

Also, I think there weren't very many signups not because of the power of the teams that did sign up, but because there simply aren't that many Lockdown players interested in participating in organized competition. I would love to start a weekly or monthly sustainable tournament series to grow that competitive spirit, but unfortunately I don't have the time nor the resources. If anyone has a similar idea and a shot at pulling it off please do it, it would be a great help to the community (as long as it's well-organized).

To people who say that this

To people who say that this tournament has been stacked in a way that only two teams have good members. Do you expect people who know of good players to decide to not play with them and instead purposely choose worse players? Your logic is very weird in that manner.

@Kinda-Decent
Apologies for the delay in matches. My team has members which are on very strict schedules which don't allow much free time. We'll sort something out soon.

The rarest of pepes

@Erryone out dere
So far nobody has complained about the money and all the feedback -save for the one in this thread- has been positive. Sure, it's not a huge load of money but it wasn't about the money to begin with. I wanted to make something that players could enjoy other than grinding for tokens, which personally I grew tired of after the first week. I spent weeks trying to reach out players/guilds to sign up. I saw the "Failed" Olympics and from what I had gathered was most of the players didn't sign up because "the money wasn't worth the hassle"; so I doubled the money for T1, and doubled that for T2 in hopes there would be more people who wanted to sign up.

@Klipik
Do you know how I know you didn't play Shadow Mercs to begin with? Because it's the first I'm hearing of it. If you knew you were playing them on the 2nd I should have been made aware of that since you need a ref to be there for the matches anyways. All of this was in the one or two mails I sent your team reps on the 21st or 22nd. I have yet to receive any form of contact from your team, the only thing I have heard is secondhand from Ret. So I really don't know what you're on about ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

@Leftypepperswirl
Life happens, I understand that. See you in the summer with a -hopefully- better organized shindig

No tears, only dreams now

Updates: Shadow Mercenaries drops out due to internal conflicts, ceding a win by default to Git Gud.

Which brings us to the highly anticipated (and postponed) finale to this mess!

Funk Off and Git Gud duke it out after so many scheduling conflicts and trash talk from both sides. Both teams dominate in their respective servers and it comes down to a coin toss 5th match, from which Git Gud emerges the victor. [Results]

This makes Git Gud the winner of the first Voltzer Winter Cup! All prizes had been already mailed out, including a couple personal ones that I handed out to my discretion.

I want to thank everyone who participated and stuck through with it. It was a huge headache hearing you all complain and nag but it was well worth the experience. I'll take some of you on that offer to help around in a few months!

Just one thing to note, i

Just one thing to note, i would've preferred the format of do 2 games on each server and then add the points each team got to see the victor if it's a 2-2 tie. It's ridiculous how you can do really well on both servers(but lose by a few points on the enemy server) yet still be left up to the coin toss of who'll basically get a huge advantage in the last match. Luckily the coin toss favored us but it would've been ridiculous to lose when we performed better across the board.

Also, get three rings to give in-game icons/trophies for winning!!!
