I'm not really concerned with the market or playerbase or anything like that.... I'm actually more concerned with whether this game has become unfun to play.....

For me.... it has...

The greatest contributing factor to this has been... not costumes or lack of added weaponry or new maps and missions to explore...

no it has been LAG...

It started back this year during the Apocrea event... I didn't think that much of it since the Apocrean Plateau has always been laggy to play and there doesn't seem to be anyone at OOO who is working on this or cares to work on this.

Idk whether it started there or whether it has just progressively gotten worse since the number of costumes in the files has increased on a monthly basis.

Whatever the case is..... I used to be able to play with absolute control... now... I can barely finish the first part (1/3rd the first floor) of Grinchlin assault without losing a spark...

I had stayed hoping that something would be done but alas.... nothing....

I give up

There comes a point where playing the game is sheer torture.... at that moment it just isn't worth my time.... and a game that isn't even worth my time will NEVER be worth my MONEY...

Yeah I too have noticed that

Yeah I too have noticed that lag has gotten increasingly worse.

It first began with lockdown, sometime between april and july 2015, where the servers got worse. Evidence was that old pros like remet could not play at even 50% of their old level before. Not just him though, many others.

Next was the random crashing of the game that kicked you back to log in screens in the last 2 months. And now Haven doesn't load. I have no idea what is going on, but having to restart the game or log back in every time it crashes of freezes on a black screen is tedious.

Using these simple techniques, an average player found a way to COPE WITH LATENCY ISSUES. Anti-SK SEGA networks board members hate her!

1. Set up your Extra.txt to give the game as much RAM allowance as possible

See: http://forums.spiralknights.com/en/node/12849

2. Use an ethernet cable + connect using a good connection

3. Make sure your computer isn't the issue by checking memory/CPU usage.

4. Make sure you're connected to a good server by testing the water (fire pulsars, nitronme etc.) in the ready room/terminal before starting each run.

5. Make sure SK's various memory leaks aren't the issue by restarting your client frequently/when slowdown occurs

no increase in lag for me

No, I have not noticed any increase in lag. Yes, Spiral Knights is still fun for me.

P.S. Six-From-Syrup's clickbait parody made me smile.

Increased Lag?

Sounds like observational bias.

@ Skeptic

All I know is that a year or so ago I could play with a perfectly stable and constant 4 bars and no latency or ping fluctuations.

Now I am at a constant 3 bars max.... and in battles (or even just walking) the ping greatly fluctuates to such a point that I don't attack, shield, use sprite skills, or even dash jump when I need to.

I am sick and tired of trying to do something and then having the server catch up to me and say that I'm dead. I don't want to have to input some command into the console or run some piece of code I have to write up. NO! It is up to the owners of the game whether it is OOO, Sega, or whoever to ensure that their product runs.....

That sounds almost exactly like how I've played the game the past few years. Sounds like you might need to optimize your game via 64bit java and the extra.txt file - doing so made my game much more stable.

My suggestion

Are you on steam?

I can confirm switching the java folder in the games files with a 64 bit version sucessfully runs the game reduces lag immensely

I also suggest that you should consider the specs of your machine

and your region such as USA or EU (Region can play a big factor in latency since asia servers don't exist for the game.)

Felt this would be as good a time to bring this back if any.

But who knows, maybe it'll have magically fixed itself by now.

This game is still really good

Since Lots of other free to play online games contained Simulated Combat version got people so bored. I consider mostly Great combat style like this game has to offer. Lots of arguing happened in years and we don't want anymore of it.
