Spiral Knights Wiki General
- Wiki General Thread
- This thread is for the purpose of eliminating some of the clutter I've been creating (derp) by going around and posting general stuff in other people's threads.
That doesn't mean disregard the respective threads; the Beastiary and Crafting threads for example.
- I'll try to keep this post relatively updated, but basically I'll put templates and other pertinent information here.
- Wiki Requests
- If you have any sort of request, be it a template or you want someone to once-over a page you've been working on, you can post it here and/or on the wiki requests page:
http://wiki.spiralknights.com/Wiki_Requests
- Current Templates (at least the ones I am aware of)
- Weapons Template
This is to be used for adding weapons (Swords, Handguns, and Bombs) to their respective pages. Usage notes can be found here. This is relatively easy to fill out, just enter the information in the respective lines. :3 If you have any questions, feel free to discuss it on the talk page.Monsters Template(s)
There are actually two of these at the moment.- Stand-alone Monster Table
This shows HP, Damage, Threat, and other information for a more detailed page about a monster. [I will add a strategies section when it becomes more pertinent.] - Multi-Monster Table
This is more of a general table template, but is currently used for having a bunch of monsters together. It shows less information than the stand-alone. It is mostly for a more 'brief' look into the monsters. Good for family pages. Instructions for using this are on the page.
- Stand-alone Monster Table
I agree with Rose. The only thing I would say with player descriptions is to try to be sure they are encyclopedic, and not cute or funny. Here are a couple examples:
Description for Brute Cube: "The bigger and meaner cousin of the Jelly Cube, Brute Cubes are about the same size as a block. They, too, are often found hiding among them, so be ready for a fight before you free them!"
Description for Rock Cube: "A slime with a stone atop it, that may be made of concrete."
The former seems to be written to be cute to me. The latter seems to be extrapolating, at least as far as I can tell. Does it say anywhere in game that the top is made of concrete, or may be made of concrete?
Part of me wants to disagree and say cute and funny is fine as long as it gets the point across, but at the same time... I think you're right.
Something like a better description for the Brute Cube would be "This is a stronger version of the Jelly Cube. It is often found mixed amongst Jelly Cubes. Due to their larger size, they hit harder and can be quite bothersome if one is not careful."
/shrug It explains what a brute cube is, gives a little reference, and has some advice.
But yeah, Official descriptions aren't 100% necessary. It's a wiki for the reason that official information doesn't always need to be available. Just make sure that everyone holds the information that's up to the right standards, as if it /were/ official. Writing a guide to the game, not an advertisement, right?
Descriptions should definitely skew towards encyclopedic/neutral descriptions, as Cire said. Cute and funny may be okay, so long as they're sprinkled here and there very rarely (and careful with overusing exclamation points). So long as we can all agree that everything we all put on the wiki will be mercilessly and ruthlessly edited, we'll be okay. :p
If we really wanted some wiggle room for silliness, we could always just come up with our own version of the D for Dwarf marker.
I've never heard of anything like that. Could you elaborate, (not) Shiro?

Sorry, I'll make sure to remember to actually link to the obscure stuff I talk about once in a while.
Oh, one thing I just thought about that I noticed people aren't really doing. (Probably because they don't know! /derp)
Instead of having to type out the stars for ratings of items, in templates you can include {{star| # }} to use a number instead. If it's already in the template (as it is for weapons, monsters, and crafting) you can just put a number (ie 4) for the number of stars and it will put stars for you. Saves a bit of copy-paste. :3 Pretty nifty! (and it's all thanks to ParserFunctions!)

Not sure why you've gone and done necromancy on this thread - most of the stuff talked about in here has been done (especially the star parserfunction). To what data are you referring?
Data!
Monster HP per level, watapon damages, armor defense value, vials/chromalisk furballs power, what a knight's pipe mean in HPs
and maybe some formula too? Like offensive and defensive damage reduction depending on the level or how punch roll UVs.
Everyone love some good data, mostly math lovers but meh, data.

Someone (probably Zeddy, but I can't seem to find it) has a Monster Health google doc around here somewhere

I also added this to the request page on the wiki, but thought I'd include it here as well:
This isn't so much of a request as it is a suggestion. I think it's okay to not have official descriptions for monsters (for example, on the chromalisk and wolver pages). Right now, our knowledge of everything in Cradle very limited. I think it's perfectly normal to pool our knowledge together, add descriptions as best as we can now, and change them continuously as we learn more. Such is the nature of wikis. The wiki as it is now is only a shell of what it will be become in the months and years (!) to come.
