Jokes on you they are even worse and nothing changed.
SK has been bought by ex OOO employees.
While I don't think Spiral Knights 2 would work anymore, a spiritual successor using a modified engine overhauled from the original game and optimized to perform well on the average rig would be phenomenal.
The one thing that keeps me coming back to this game is the lack of any competition. I've yet to find any game comparable or similar enough to this one, and at this point I'm not even sure one exists. This game truly is one of a kind.
SK 2 would never work, MMO sequels rarely do good, the only success I can think of is Guildwars 2, stuff like maple stories 2, lineage 2, navyfield 2 and dead frontier 2, all of these sequels flopped, why? Because people already poured so much time and effort into the old game it is hard to convince them to move on the sequel. It is the grindy nature of MMOs that kills their sequel potential.
If SK2 were to ever come out it needs to be a semi-departure from SK, maybe set in Morai war with a PvP focus (Spiral Order vs Morais) but retains the art style/lore so that some old SK players will be convinced to join if nothing else for a little bit of a change in scenery.
I'm well aware that the company is showing signs of life, I've never said that they just gave up. It's nice to see them keep the game up, but as I said. One can go as far as keep the game alive for so long. The game is clinging to whatever life sources it does have (mentioning promos won't help here), but that's ought to run out eventually. I'm not expecting anything major to come, but I'd love to see the game redone in an entirely new engine to make it at least more stable.
I've been playing since the game's launch, taking breaks sometimes for a year or two due to the lack of good endgame content. It'd be nice to have some kind of a tresure hunt which people can go for to farm the promo boxes on occassion, I'm not a fan of spending money on videogames unless I deem something amazing, and there were a couple of promos that were just great back in the day!
Here goes hoping that we'll see something, but as it is now, the slope is slightly tilted not in the game's favor.
