Take Your Son And Daughter To Work Day is just around the corner! This wonderful day is perfect for parents wanting to share their working day with a loved child, to introduce them to the work place and show them what they can expect when they enter the work force themselves. Battling your way through the Clockworks is a type of work! So is hanging around Haven, or enjoying some time in your Guild Hall.

Your task:
Introduce your real life you to the fantastic world of Spiral Knights! Take a screen shot of any scene in Spiral Knights with your knight (or an alt) and use it as a background including a picture or drawing of your real life self!
- You may use text, speech bubble, or banner to add humour. (remember though, keep it clean--don't violate the Forum Rules.)!
- You may include other knights, with their permission

Deadline: April 29, 2016, 11:59 PM Game Time (Pacific time zone)

Prizes: Winners will be able to specify which monster pocket they want (chroma whelp, love puppy, hoptimer, or mewkat). Other prizes may be added depending on participation.

Other rules/information
-Only one entry per player
-You don't have to use a real life image of yourself (ie photo). You can use a substitute, either photographic or art work. Keep in mind I'm wanting a distinction between your real life you and your SK you, so if you do decide to draw yourself don't make it too much like your knight! (ie, I'm expecting feet, and I wouldn't expect your real life you to be running around in armor!)
- Contest will finish April 29, 2016, 11:59 PM Game Time (Pacific time zone)
- Upload the images to a hosting site such as flickr.com, photobucket.com, imageshack.com.
- You may edit your post up until the deadline.

Love the event idea, though I try to keep my real life out of my spiral knights as much as possible.

I suppose technically I could make some art of my knight with other characterized parts of myself, but I'm like 99% sure that wouldn't fit under the guildlines. Might make for some cute artwork regardless.

Near the end of the post Hera says that entries should be posted in this thread.
This announcement thread is just for spreading awareness and letting people know the rules as far as I can tell.

I'm liking the other pictures I'm finding flipping backwards through the gallery... so.. you have a doll of yourself as a pirate.. and you play with it.. you're by far my favorite GM for this. I'm so glad that I'm not alone on the pirate doll front.

Some video editors can 'sort of' act like a photo editing program if have masking tools and a frame export feature. Who knows?

No! You don't have to use a photo of yourself - I absolutely understand that a lot of folk won't want to be sharing real life images of yourself. You are allowed to draw an image representing yourself and use that instead of a photographic image if you want. Just please make the image a vaguely realistic one - there needs to be a distinction between your SK you and your 'real life' you!

You may use your friend's knight (with their permission) as well as yours in the SK screenshot you use, but the real life photo (or photo substitute) should only be of you. Encourage your friend to enter too!

The use of art generated by non-Grey Havens' games isn't allowable, I'm sorry! I'm really after something original by you to reflect you in RL or a photographic image of you. If you aren't happy about a photograph and think your skills as an artist aren't up to the task, please don't let that prevent you from entering! Humor and the originality of the post will score higher than your art work. So if you have a fantastic idea and can only draw stick figures - enter that!

This event is just for fun. If we ever held a contest where we'd be using the images somehow (like a T-shirt design contest), we'd clearly indicate that in the thread. With that being said, it's always possible that we post the winners of an event on social media.

Editing programs question...?

Are the listed editing programs the only things we can use to make the entries? I'm terrible with Photoshop and I've never touched any of the others (I only use Microsoft Paint to crop stuff...). :/ I just use an online photo editor that works so much more easily for me. Is that okay?

Super happy with my submission! Disregarding the facial expression, which was hard to get right when you've got a 7kg or so cat on your head who would like nothing more than to get off.

A quick question.

So my question is regarding towards the picture, if I choose to take a picture of me, am I allowed to wear a mask based on my persona (not from SK, rather from my YouTube channel)? And if so, is it possible to also draw it. I'm not the best with drawing great detail, but I'll try to do both. I am just wondering if wearing a mask is against the rules.

If you want to obscure your face with a mask (or reluctant cat*!), that is fine. Keep in mind that if you are using a photo, it doesn't need to be a view of the front of you. It could be a nice photo of the back of your head to preserve your mysteriousness!

Long answer: The idea of the competition is that your Spiral Knights character is taking your RL self to 'work' (into the game) for the day. There needs to be a significant difference between your SK self and your 'RL' self. What I don't want to see are drawings of your RL self as a Knight (ie copying the existing SK artwork). However, I'd be willing to allow photographs of the RL you in a SK costume as I think the difference between you and the SK you will be enough to meet the intentions of the competition.

Short answer: Yes!

The idea is to place your Real Life you in a scene exactly how it is in the game. Manipulating that scene by editing it (other than by cropping, adding speech bubbles or banners) isn't what I'm really after here. I won't disqualify minor edits as you describe, but they will be taken into account when scoring the entry.

If you are asking about a prop your RL self (photo or drawing) is holding - perfectly fine! Editing your SK self to make them behave in such a way as they can't behave in game (for example: riding a bicycle or using a pogo) would impact negatively on your score. However, if you have a picture of your RL self riding a bicycle or using a pogo, that is perfectly fine! Speech bubbles are fine too if you are wanting your RL and your SK self to be chatting.

Got a last question here, provided we at least have our knight and ourself in the in the picture, are we allowed to crop out say the UI in the screenshot so it's just us (ourself and our knight) and the in-game background? I'm personally a bit picky with my screenshots and don't like having the UI in them.

Oh right I forgot to yell at you guys to sweeten the pot a bit. Old accessories don't interest me unless they're particularly rare and it's always the same three not particularly rare old accessories that I'm especially not interested in and can just buy for 180K cr. Really the only reason to enter is to say you won or just because you really like doing this kind of stuff and have way too much time on your hands.

Ok let me put it this way. This garnered 18 entries. Maybe it's supposed to be a small contest for 18 people so that they can all have a chance at winning.

If on the other hand it is intended to promote the game, or if it could be used as such, then having 180 people would be a much bigger success and having 1,800 people would be huge. Imagine that many entries flooding the world, and how many people would take note and say wow, that game is doing something pretty neat, I'll go check out that Spiral Knights.

If it were up to me-

Participation Prize = Silver Key
Top 40% = Monster Pocket
Top 10% = Mixmaster
Top 3 = Special node slime shield+crusher, where each contest gets their own flavor.
