I have played this game (on windows and on mac) through the steam client for quite some time now. I have greatly enjoyed the game on all platforms thus far. In all my playing and work I have recently been able to rise all the way to vanguard and obtain 5* weapons and equipment. I just got a new computer and am running linux on it. I understand that SK does run fine in linux natively with no problems; my problem is I do not know how to log into my old account. It was created on steam and I understand there used to be workarounds, for example logging into facebook, which is now impossible. Is there anyway to find out my username and password to log into the vanilla(non-steam) client? If not is there anyway my account could be unlinked from steam. I greatly enjoy this game and would love to keep doing so, it would just be a shame to start from scratch. Thank you for your time and any help would be greatly appreciated!

TLDR: Is there ANY way I can not start over with a steam account to play on linux?

You can not, once you convert/make an account to something other than the standard client it is gone for real. As for the old hack that let you use steam credentials to login with the default client, it is gone.
You can try to pester the devs about letting the steam client launch under windows tho.

Linux issues

1) You cant run SK from linux steam at all.
2) You can try to support request and ask for a separation (its possible, but i dont know if they are willing).
3) There was an old way to seperate steam accounts to native, where you logged on, and asked for a new password (email confirmation needed), like 2 years ago. Idk if its still possible, or even safe.
4) If you have a good computer you can try wine (windows emulator) to run steam and start SK.
5) Create and run a virtual windows from your computer, steam+SK works that way.

I never really understand why they never made the transition.
You also used to be able to manually force the game into steam (using steam's API).
This thread has a bit more information, but again it's another thing that was disabled. I haven't bothered seeing if it started working again.

I've been running it through wine, although steam butchers fonts when running in wine. To get the text back, follow the info in this thread.

For the record, this issue with steam's linux + running SK has been a long standing issue. However, there may be hope with the change of ownership. Players reminded the Devs that they still want the native run to work. There may be hope, because they packaged java for mac.
