Please help, the game has lost its spark to me.

I've played this game since Mist Energy was a thing, and until now it has always been a wonderful experience. The art style, the game play, the flash, the weapons, the community, the co-operation, all of it seemed to just flow together so seamlessly to make something unique and beautiful. And I loved it.

That was a long time ago. Now, between the monotony of the end-game grind and developers that I am convinced don't care about the players (at least, not anymore), playing the game is almost depressing. It's hardly even a game anymore, now I'm not fighting for friends, or the thrill. I'm fighting to get out, I want something else, everything I do is for the purpose of acquiring enough Energy to buy a different Steam game, because it feels like that's the only thing left worth fighting for.
Even if I forgot about the money, if I played purely for fun, I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere. I can grind for days, weeks, months, and the monsters will never die faster, there will be no progress, it's always frustratingly slow and it's never getting better.

Vanaduke, missions, the Clockworks, compounds, arenas, monsters, events, orbs, heat, crowns, energy, the auction house, NPC, players, merchants...every single thing down to the last 0 and 1 is just an obstacle in my mind.

All I'm asking for is advice from someone who has felt a similar sentiment. Is this it for me? Is this the part where I would retire, drop the game, and come back months later to relive the nostalgia, feel bad about everyone I left behind, maybe finally put together that dream costume? Is there nothing left?

just dont play it and avoid get salty because the game dont have something new, come back when the game have new stuff so you can have that spark back. its practically the thing why i just stopped to play, people only like to play Lameduke because its the only place that drops lots of silver and radiants and its the only thing they play on elite, its like when i used to do my elite groups to arcada and nobody joined and when they do they quickly leave the party because its on Elite or because they though was Lameduke, so pretty much no reason to play.

So instead getting salty because devs dont put back prize boxes + energy bundle and trying to play arcade with a party or getting radiants i prefer to quit temporaly and wait for some update even if it just a small single level but hey i just want to see how they keep going with the game.

Time moves forward, so should we.

Nowadays, the only reason that keeps me coming back here is the fact that I have a SK account. So, I can't say I relate to being sentimental about SK and the community. However, I think all you need to consider is what you said here. If you feel that playing the game is becoming a string of punishments rather than a fun and enjoyable experience, then you should stop. Playing video games is supposed to be fun, hence there is no point in continuing to play a game that does nothing but frustrate you.

Anyways, if you feel like you should wait a little longer, maybe you can do what I do, and that is checking in every few months. [=

P.S: my sentiments on SK be like-

tbh

•Invest in the fun weapons--I use the Warmaster hammer, Iron Slug, and Gorgofist purely because they're extremely dynamic. A Brandish charge-fest would actually bore me to tears.
•Another tip is to socialize, especially in Haven. When I get bored of MMOs, my first instinct is to go around and provide unnecessary commentary on absolutely anything that comes to mind. Effectively, you can trashpost the entirety of Haven with /1 and nobody can stop you.
•Being active on the forums isn't a bad way to get further involved with the community without actually playing the game. Here, pretty much everybody is a SK veteran that's reached the same stage as you: a complete lack of new things to explore. That's where all the stuff in Suggestions comes from--dreamers among us who see beyond what the game -is- to what it could be.
•Further, the best thing about SK is that you can go on hiatus for a while, and pick up right where you left off. If you're feeling nothing but frustration from playing SK, maybe put it down and play something else; playing games while angry was never good for anyone except keyboard manufacturers.
•Get meta--If you're artistically-inclined, making something with the game as an inspiration can sometimes be better than playing it. The SpiralSpy program is great for basic modelviewing, so that's a good place to start.
•Play other stages than just King of Ashes. Slag walkers are the absolute easiest things to beat up. Fiends are challenge-presenters. So are Crusaders like in Shadowplay. Prestige missions present a significant challenge if you're not a regular speed-runner of them. Don't even get me started on Dreams and Nightmares in terms of difficulty. Anything that tests your skill is likely to be a bit more riveting than "whack a zombie".

I take hiatuses all the time. The game will always be stagnant in the eyes of players because of the speed at which most players progress now; since you were around during mist you know exactly what i mean. With nothing to limit gameplay on a previously-limiting mechanic, obviously you're gonna get bored grinding for hours on end.
So my suggestion to you is this: Don't. If SK is getting boring, take a refresher by doing something else. That way, you won't feel like you're being held down by the clunky Java engine this thing runs on.

Most of what keeps me going now is as follows-

A) Danger missions, when I can get friends to go on them with me. Hoarding prestige in general is a nice way to spend my time.

B) Grinding for radiant fire crystals, so that when a sword or bomb update or even just a new prize box weapon comes along...

C) Watching newer players get excited over dread skelly. I don't have the heart to tell them it's awful...

D) The holiday gift exchange. I get to play dress up with a newerish player. That's so excellent.

E) Loving and despising Fangel. Finding people that anger and frustrate you and befriending them is an excellent experience.

F) Weirding people out with my 4 sudaruskas and ctr VH wrench wand because that's really funny

G) Crafting 3* bombs. I'm a 'vanguard', but also a 3* bomber. This confuses people as well.

H) The jelly king is the most social run of all time, and the game desperately needs another run like it.

I) Run events of your own. A while ago I paid people to get images for the wiki via solotron's alliance. It worked well but didn't get publicity. If you want to work on the wiki and get paid, it's 50 CE per uploaded image that you send to solotron, who has the know how to make it all work so that you don't have to.

J) Try new weapon combinations. I have all of the weapons and love thinking about how they worked and didn't.
Newest revelation: Suda is bad because it lacks range and puts you in danger, making it akin to a worse iron slug.

K) Giving new players 3* tortofists and see how they react to using them. "Wow that's cool" goes to "Dear lord this is weird" in an instant.

L) Hoarding 4* orbs of alchemy, so that it appears incredibly unfair whenever I'm out on runs. Yea I got 40 of them. Can't use 'em.

hmmm

I agree with most of the stuff above.
The way I kinda keep myself busy is I made an alt and I am trying to get it to that nice horsey prestige badge (Already reached it on my main), I find it fun to do levels that seem so easy with my nice gear. It gives you a new perspective as I appreciate my ASI way more now that I remember what vanilla weapons feel like.

I have also done a few challenges like weaponless boss runs (Shield bash, Sprite, and Consumables), only have completed RT and RJP but I got halfway through FSC before I got bored.

Experiment with weapons, try everything (Even bombs). My frustration with this is there are some weapons behind a paywall -coughmixmastercoughcough- that I really want to try just for their unique mechanics.

Summary.
Make alts
Do challenges
Try stuff

definitely

Spiral Knights shouldn't be your sole point of entertainment. In fact, no "one thing" should ever be, simply because eventually it will lose something to it, and you'll feel like you have no-where else to turn.

If you're looking for more to do in the game after reaching the endgame, you'll need to set up goals yourself. Try to get to a certain prestige rank, try to amass X amount of crowns, try to learn how to merchant, try to hone your skills, try new weapons out, try nerfing yourself, pretend you're an NPC and do arcade runs with lower level players and just shower everything in blitz bullets in an attempt to mimic Rhendon, etc.

I know I keep coming back for the community time and time again. I love the game, as it's sort of a healing place for me no matter where I am in life at the time, but the people who I surround myself with in the game are who keep me coming back every day.

I also try not to force myself to do anything in the game, as then it just becomes a chore to do anything. I set goals with no real time limit, and work towards them. But some days I don't feel like I want to spend all day on Spiral Knights. I'll branch out to other things like art, songwriting, or other games.

Basically, don't force yourself to do anything, because then you won't want to do anything. If you're not having fun right now you can leave for a while and come back refreshed and excited. No reason you can't keep up with news while you're gone either, so you don't even have to miss anything. :)

That said and done, winterfest is coming up soon. If you're looking for challenging end-game content, I'd recommend checking out Grinchlin Assault - it's sure to keep you on your toes.

I got a bunch of screenshots from the game. What kind of images do you need?

Screenshots

Fehzor is just mentioning Solotron's wiki event. If you want to send images to anyone, you can send them to him (if he's still collecting them). Send images that are missing on the wiki. You can find those simply by browsing it. You can find few missing monster pictures, but also Winterfest images, like screenshots of those mysterious rooms, photos of Impostoclaus and Randolph, those expirable helmets etc.

Juggle with various other

Juggle with various other games. Try MOBAs like Smite, DotA 2, LoL, Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, etc. Try popular MMOs like Guild Wars 2 or World of Warcraft.

Always dreamed of constantly playing a detective game with others, or being the bad guy? Get into Town of Salem or Epicmafia.

Take a break.
