“Guys, the gate is closed, and this isn’t an Unknown Passage!” Nick shouted. “We’re trapped here until someone opened that gate! Frost, you look for a way to open it!”
Kirk made a ‘ehhhh’ noise, then said: “I don’t know about thaaat. Telling someone with an eyepatch to look for something…”
Nick scowled. “Kirk, shut up!”
“Calm down, Cap’O. I can kill these guys all day.” Vince said.
Frost ran to the gate and started taking some time to inspect it.
“Can you hurry up?” Nick asked.
“Shh. I'm thinking here.” Frost said. She then took out her knife and stabbed it into a floor panel which unsurprisingly, opened the gate.
Kirk was the first to sprint through the gate, with Frost following closely behind.
Nick was about to leave too, until he saw Vince still attacking the zombies. “Come on! Let's go!”
“But the cr-”
“They're fake and they're not dropping anything so quit wasting your time!” Nick snapped at him.
Vince reluctantly started running after Kirk, who was kind of far away. “Hey Kirk, wait up! How much did you get!”
Kirk turned his head to answer. “I'll tell you later!”
Nick ignored them. He was starting to notice some green bushes in the area. Bushes in an undead stratum? That's ridiculous. There was even a red bush, too!
*Beep, beep, beep*
When Kirk passed by the red bush, it for no reason at all, exploded, knocking back both him and Frost. Kirk was closest to the explosive bush, and he was immediately knocked unconscious.
Kirk lost 50% Vitality.
Frost was also knocked off her feet. She looked to be fine, but she passed out after a few seconds.
Frost lost 25% Vitality.
“What just happened?” Vince said.
Nick sighed angrily. “It's another trap…”
We gotta get those two to safety. What should we do…?
>Get to the elevator first.
>Set up camp at a clearing.
Frost regenerated 25% Vitality.
"Okay, Vince. You gotta help me move them along." Nick said.
"This is stupid. I have to waste my time for these clumsy idiots." responded Vince. He reluctantly walked over to Frost and started 'helping' her by dragging her along. Nick was easily able to pick up Kirk and carry him over his shoulder, though.
Nick walked ahead, to make sure that nothing was in the way. Except that there wasn't anything else in the way but a party button. "We should rest here for a bit. These two aren't terribly injured, so they should be back up in no time."
"Oh come on! Is that really necessary? It's just an explosive; it happens almost everyday." Vince shouted.
"Yup." was Nick's answer.
It only took about forty-five seconds to make up camp. By literally placing a log down and having Vince lighting it on fire.
Nick didn't say anything, and neither did Vince. But Nick did notice something out of the corner of his eye. He turned his head and saw Frost walking over to Kirk. She knelt down beside him and started examining him.
>"Are you okay?"
>"You should go back to resting."
>"What are you doing?"
>[Ignore Her]
What are you doing!?!?
You should go back to resting.
I think Nick understands that Frost is a medic.
You should go back to resting.
I think Nick understands that Frost is a medic.
(Asaleth and Topogaming I will alternate between you two unless one of you isn't present to make a choice.)
Nick turned up his voice and said: "Hey."
Frost just ignored Nick and kept doing her business.
"You should go back to resting." Nick said.
But Frost just shook her head. "I'm fine. I'm always fine." She checked a wound on Kirk that Nick didn't notice before. "Shrapnel wound. That explosive was probably rigged with bits of metal."
He didn't think that Frost was fine, though. "The explosion hit you too, and you're fine?"
She patched Kirk's wound up with a bandage. "Yes."
"Lay off, man. She said she's fine so by default that means that she's fine." Vince said.
"Okay then." Nick reluctantly said. "Okay, gentlemen. This party button area looks just as suspicious as the last one, seeing how it has the exact same layout. What should we do beforehand?"
Vince scoffed. "What we always do. Charge up beforehand and slash everything to pieces."
Frost on the other hand, didn't like that idea. "They're still going to be infinite like last time, we should just open the gate immediately and leave before we get ourselves killed."
>Listen to Vince.
>Listen to Frost.
>Get the Crowns and Heat first, then leave.
>[Say Nothing]
We're gonna get ourselves killed. We should listen to the guy that just got us outta there.
I'll be back within 22 hours. Keep waiting.
(What was that? Sorry, I meant 44 hours. Btw I don't have any other good things to say here.)
"Okay, we should get out of here ASAP." Nick declared. "I'd rather not waste my sparks on a badly made arena."
"You're lame." Vince said.
They were interrupted by a groan. Kirk was sitting up. "Oww... what happened?"
"You got knocked out by a bomb." Frost answered. "Now step on the button so we can progress."
-----
"I don't have anything else to say, but you wanted me to say a story so there it is. The only thing Frost killed was a Mewkat which happened to appear."
Alex yawned. "Lame."
"I wonder where Frost is now? I had Vince and Kirk come hang out with me for another run but Frost didn't respond when I rang her up." Nick said.
Jeff was thinking about what to say...
>"Frost is dead."
>"I saw her on the security cameras."
>[Say Nothing]
(Whatever you say.)
"I think I saw her on the security cameras around here." Jeff said, scratching his chin.
"What? They let that kid come with the Recon Rangers on a Danger Mission?" Nick said, his eyes somewhat widening.
Jeff shrugged in response. "Well, she did soak up an explosion like it was nothing, I'm sure she's fine."
"Where was she last seen?" Nick asked.
"I think it was on this depth, but the place was clear of gas at that time."
"Hey." Alex interrupted. "Can I tell my story now?"
Both Jeff and Nick stared at Alex as if she said something inappropriate.
"What?"
>"Sure." (The Freelancer)
>"Nah." (The Hacker)
I think (The Hacker) implies that Jeff has something he wants to say(?).
"Nah. You can tell your story later." Jeff said casually.
Alex frowned. "Laaame."
Jeff stood up and started stomping out the fire. "We should go now. Gotta secure the area before the cavalry arrives."
"But I still got more questions." Nick protested.
"Cope with it. I've told you as much as I could get. Now..." Jeff cleared his throat. "Alexandra, you're coming with me in case I run into trouble. Nick, you check to see if the elevator is working."
Nick just gave an 'ugh' and left to check the elevator.
Alex's smile came back a bit. "Ooh, we're going to have so much fun together, dear!"
"Don't flirt with me. Now then..." Jeff left the booth to advance, with Alex following. He then pulled out a recon module and pressed some buttons on it. The recon module's light flickered as a holographic map appeared in front of them.
Map D22 East
"Here is our map for the area.
Green Areas are filled with poison gas. They are impassable without gas masks, with we do have, so that's not a problem.
Red Doors are electronic locks. They are easy for me to hack, but if there is poison gas enveloping them then they are unopenable.
Yellow Doors require keys to open. There are no big golden keys on this floor. They require simple keys on keychains to open.
And lastly, the Lime colored crosshair is our current position."
After Alex finished reading the map over, Jeff turned off the recon module and put it away.
But as Jeff prepared to walk North, he received a transmission.
"This is Agent Irving, is anyone listening?"
>"Loud and clear, Irving."
>"You're not an actual Intel Agent, though..."
>"Irvin." (Annoy)
Jeff chuckles a bit before stating: "You're not an actual Intel Agent, though."
"That's not important, Jeff. What is is that we've detected some life signs North of your position. You should probably go investigate it."
"Right..." Jeff said, not really paying attention to Irving's announcement. "Say, how come it's you and not Kora who is communicating with me, Irving?"
Irving could be heard typing some commands into a computer. "Well someone had to fill in while Kora was sleeping. Anyways, get to it!"
>"Okay."
>"The bridge is out."
>"You got it Irvin." (Annoy)
“Okay.” Was all Jeff had to say. Except when he ended the conversation with “Over.”
He turned to his comrade. “C'mon, let's get a move on already.”
Alex opened her mouth to say something, but Jeff quickly snapped at her. “DON'T.”
The two walked forward, with Jeff holding his gun cautiously and Alex casually whistling.
“Hold up. Here’s the chasm.” Jeff said.
“Yeah, I guessed as much.” Alex said sarcastically.
Jeff made some mental footnotes as he measured it by looking at it. “About 8 blocks wide… I could get across… if you helped me.”
Alex took a good look at the chasm. “How do I help you?”
“Well… i’ll stand here.” Jeff backed away and pointed at a tile under him. “And you stand where you are right now. From here, i’ll run towards the pit and you help me by holding both your hands at waist level and boosting me across when I get to you.”
Alex chuckled a little. “You must be joking! That is absolutely-” she stopped laughing when she looked at Jeff’s serious-er face. “Aight, fine. Try not to break your legs doing that.”
“Hey, I was taught dodging skills by the best. Now if you’ll kindly…” Jeff prepared… and started running, then he stepped on Alex’s hands, which lifted him and boosted him across, making a perfect landing. “See? Told you it’d work.”
“Great… how ya gonna get back?” Alex said.
“We’ll get to that when we get to that.” Jeff turned around and started walking forward.
Something seemed off about the place, though. It was filled with dread. “Hello? Anyone around?”
“You see anything yet, dear?” Alex shouted from across the chasm.
“Shut up!” He shouted back. “I’ll tell you when I actually find something!”
Alex sighed. “Jeez, Mister grumpypants.”
Jeff turned on the flashlight on his carbine and shined it around the place.
What’s that? It… can’t be.
But it could be. He saw the corpse of a recon ranger. Took a bullet to the heart and died instantly.
Doesn’t look like there’s gonna be any survivors around here.
Jeff found another body. He was shot twice. He had some bandages on some wounds, but they probably didn’t last long.
These are the guys from the surveillance footage! Soren and Lambard. Then… where’s that medic?
He checked the area and found the medic: Frost. She had a bloody wound in her lower torso as seen in the video, and was also dead.
Damn. Better send this to the HQ. After I figure out how to get back to my allies.
He turned around to go back to the chasm, and felt something suspicious behind him all of a sudden…
>Turn Around.
>Turn Around with the Carbine.
>Keep walking.
Obviously that murderer person is there. Shoot his face.
Also it appears we have pissed Alex off.
Jeff turned around, holding his carbine at the optimal height for a headshot. There was no crazed murderer there, though.
It was Frost, the medic who took numerous injuries and ultimately died. She stood up within the four seconds that Jeff had his back turned, like she was never injured. "Hhh..." She groaned, she was hunched over in pain while giving Jeff a needy look.
>"What...?"
>"You're supposed to be dead!"
>"This isn't real."
>"How are you still alive?"
Oh of course, she's immortal. That explains the surviving until vanguard with recruit weapons.
Jeff slowly lowered his gun. "You... How are you still alive? I saw you die on the security cameras."
But she ignored his question and started to limp forward. "Hhh... help me..." She was painfully staring at Jeff with her eye.
>Help her.
>Step back.
Step back, honestly I expect her to turn into a zombi or something
Jeff refrained from firing a burst of volts into Frost's face, and stepped back. She was limping forward like a zombie, while Jeff was questioning the possibility of her actually being a walking corpse.
"Hel...p..." She said once again. Jeff soon regretted his decision to step backwards, as Frost crumpled to the ground.
Ah jeez...
He stepped forward to help Frost stand up. "Come on, up you go." He had her rest her right arm on his shoulder. Then he contacted Alex. "Alex, I found a survivor, but I can't get them past the chasm. Rendezvous with Nick and try checking the western area."
"How am I having trouble seeing you from this distance?"
"Shut up and get moving." Jeff ordered.
There was a sigh on Alex's end. "Whatever you say, cap."
Jeff slowly walked forward with Frost. All she did was groan occasionally. "You haven't answered my question yet."
Frost turned her eye towards Jeff with a frustrated look and started to speak with the same British accent. "Er- *cough* ...would you rather... I be dead or something?"
"No, but you survived being impaled by a barbed knife somehow. In fact, you're not even bleeding." Jeff said, noticing that Frost wasn't placing her free hand over her wound.
"I... wasn't dead. Just... pretending." She said very slowly, like saying so much as one word would quickly tire her out.
Jeff decided not to probe any further for an answer and walked as far as he could West. "Well, there's a powered gate and an elevator. Which way do I go..."
Frost pointed at the elevator. "That elevator... It only moves to floor 21 and floor 22."

Frost regenerated 25% Vitality.
As Jeff went to jab a Hacker into the door, Frost interrupted him. "No... Dead end. Gas."
"Don't you have a gas mask, too?"
"Broken." Frost sighed. "Take the elevator."
Jeff put his hacker away. "Fine, then."
But the elevator came down on its own. A gremlin with red-goggles and a black cloak similar to Herex's; but armored, and with two Red Sabers, both of which were the length of a Nightblade. "Found you."
Frost took her gun out and aimed it at the gremlin. "You're...?"
"You're the director of the gremlins' newest plan, aren't you? What with the gaudy dark gear you're wearing!" Jeff yelled confidently.
But he didn't respond to that. He readied his swords. "Come fight me, you petty knights."
"Er, no. I really would not like to right now." Jeff said. He had second thoughts.
The director took a step forward. "Fight or die. That is how savages like you play.
"Fine then." He let go of Frost, who was now able to stand on her own.

From what we know, she could definitely help a lot, since she either can't die or is really hard to kill.
"Frost, stick with me. This guy looks like trouble." Jeff ordered.
"Sure thing." Frost put her gun away and instead pulled out her Static Edge. Jeff unsheathed an Ascended Calibur.
The director smiled; or it looked like he did. Jeff was imaging that he was giving a vicious grin under his facemask. Then, he quickly lunged at Jeff, who deflected the attack with his sword and dashed backwards.
Jeff kept steady. That guy was good. He knew almost every aspect of swordfighting. Almost.
He took a swing at the gremlin, who reacted by taking a jab at Jeff before he was able to slash him.
"Ow!" Jeff recoiled from the attack, and stepped back once again.
Jeff lost 14.3% Vitality.
At a near lightning fast speed, the director lunged at Frost with his other sword. But she seemed to know what she was doing, too. She used her free hand to grab the blade. Unlike most knights, Frost wore fingerless tactical gloves instead of standard padded gloves. Bleed seeped from her hand.
Frost tried an upward slash directed towards the gremlin's head. He yanked his sword out of the medic's grasp and backed off.
You know, I know a guy that attacks as fast as you. Now how am I supposed to counter you?

Frost regenerated 25% Vitality.
Jeff took a cleaving swing at the director. It missed, as he expected. "Just gonna dodge, huh?"
The director did a simultaneous double stabbing attack, which Jeff dodged. Unfortunately, it was followed by a dual slash, a jab, and a jumping slash. Jeff dodged all of it, because he was of course trained by the best.
"-you're a lot more annoying than Vicky, you hear me?"
Irving was saying something. "I'll be needing a description here, so just-"
Frost stabbed the director in the back while he was in the middle of his rampage. He countered with a swift jab. It hit Frost, who recoiled and stood back.
Frost lost 25% Vitality.
Director lost 12.5% Vitality.
"Irving, respond." Jeff said, keeping his distance from the angry gremlin. "Who are you talking to?" No response received. For now.
"Stop trying to contact him. You need to help me." Frost said calmly, and Jeff was somehow able to hear it.
He put his attention back on his enemy and readied his sword.

Jeff runs over to the director, sword in hand to finish him off. But he flips himself back upright, kicking Frost back in the process.
Oh crap, why does this guy keep dodging everything?
Jeff was about to do an overhead slash, but the director did a cleaving slash, cutting him right in his side. "Gah!" It hurt a lot.
Jeff lost 28.6% Vitality.
The director put his weapons away. "You two are just a waste of time. If you want to live, leave now." He activated some sort of device, and disappeared.

(how is she so calm?)
"That guy is still around here, though! What makes you think that he isn't just gonna stab us both!?" Jeff said, panicked.
That hurt Jeff a little. "I said hold still, i'm trying to stop the bleeding." Frost cleaned the wound a bit, then pulled out her handgun. "His stealth is different. I've seen it before. If he wanted to finish us off then he would've done that right then and there." She then aimed her gun at Jeff's wound. "By the way, this might hurt a little."
>"I don't think that's a good idea."
>"Don't do that."
>"...crap."

But whatever works, and Frost probably knows better than Jeff since she's a medic.
Frost regenerated 25% Vitality.
"Uhh..." Jeff said nervously. "I don't think that's a good idea. Aren't you supposed to have bandages for this sort of thing?"
This wound probably isn't life-threatening...
Frost sighed. "Yes, but I used them all. I would have more but if you were paying attention to the security cameras then you would know that I would have replaced some of my medications for analyzing equipment." She pulled the trigger, firing a ball of heated energy at Jeff's wound.
"Gaah!" Jeff winced, "Damn, that hurt!"
Frost put her handgun away and stood up. "You'll live, so don't complain." She walked to the elevator and pressed the button to send it to them.
Jeff recovered 14.3% Vitality.
Jeff took his sweet time standing up, and eventually was able to walk over to Frost. The elevator went to Depth 22.
"Jeff can you respond already?"
Alex was calling now.
Already? You haven't called for the past 5 minutes.
Jeff activated his earpiece. "I hear you, Alex."
"About time! I've been trying to contact you for at least 3 minutes!"
"That hurts my ear, you know..."
"Okay whatever, what are you doing right now?"
"We're taking an elevator to depth 21 because we don't have a way to get back to you."
"Okay... By the way, I went looking for Nick, but he just disappeared."
"Wait, he bailed on us?"
"No way, but there's proximity mines on the elevator rails too!"
"Okay, Alex. I'm gonna need you to... Alex?" The communication was suddenly cut off. "What the hell?"
Frost casually walked off the elevator. "I see more gas in the distance." Then she quickly pulled out her handgun and aimed at a direction when she thought she heard something.
"Urrrgh..... The..." There was an ironclaw thwacker sitting against a wall, bleeding profusely.
Frost knelt beside the thwacker and examined his wounds. "What did this to you?"
"Xander... F... Failed, Arggg-" The thwacker looked like he took multiple slashes all over his body.
Frost just shook her head and stood up as Jeff walked over. "Give me your pistol." She said without turning her head.
"What?"
"I saw you holding a concealed deliverer when I was fixing you. Hand it over."
Jeff pulled out a silenced pistol, which used bullets instead of mist energy for ammo. "What for?"
"I can fix him with it." She said coldly.

She pulled back the slide.
He's not gonna survive. This guy has lost too much blood.
"So, what are you gonna do with that?" Jeff asked.
(This is Frost's Decision.)
>Mercy
>Kill
Mercy and kill are basically the same thing. Leaving him alive would just make his death more slow, so I'd say kill.
Edit:
Just going to reword that so it makes more sense.
He's going to die whether or not we kill him, so we may as well speed it up (kill) which is technically more merciful then leaving him to die slowly.
well this is a side we haven't seen...
but agree kill
"This isn't a competition, Vincent." Nick said firmly.
"Like hell it isn't! Now get over here and step on this party button for me so we can go kill more crap!"
Nick walked to the button and stood on it, along with the rest of the party. "You better watch your mouth, boy. I'm your commanding officer for the time being and don't you forget it."
A horde of zombies(forty, to be precise) appeared around the party. "This seems a little sketchy..." Kirk commented.
"That's because it is." Frost said.
Vince readied his Blazebrand. "I don't care! I'll take them all on; they're just a bunch of dumb video game zed!"
"Heh." Nick did a jumping smash on some nearby zombies, turning them all into dust. "I'll gladly destroy them, too."
Kirk froze a pack with a cleave of his Blizzbrand. "Hey Frost! What're you doing?"
Frost was literally trying to stab a zombie as if her knife was a Taser. Nick ran over to her and kicked the zombie so hard that it fell off the edge of the map. “How did you get Champion rank with that bug zapper of yours?”
“I upgraded the Calibur then never used it again.” Frost said casually.
The fight was going well, until Nick realized that every time a zombie died, a new one replaced it instantly.
This isn't good. We can't kept this up forever.
He then looked at the exit gate. The sparks were blue instead of purple.
This is a trap of some sort. I'm gonna need one of those kiddos to figure out how to open the gate.
